I frequent many message boards, so many I have a list written down next to my comp so I dont forget. Anyways, noticed the level of activity here is a bit low for some place established with serious collectors. Wondered why, But seems the mods are bit serious about the rules here. Know I know rules are in place for a reason. But as a newcomer trying to get active in the community its a bit discouraging to get involved with the experience so far here. Really I cant trade some cheap core guys because i dont post enough? Well deleting my posts for not posting enough is pretty discouraging. and I DONT care if someone does not like the price! We have enough gougers out their. I do not mind defending what i price my items at because I do my best to be reasonable. Also please when you read this dont get a harsh tone! I was excited to be a part of this community. I am just worried it might be a bit Inflexible around here. I see the thread went on without me as I had to leave after sending you the first PM about buying and selling. You also cannot trade or ask for ransom. Obviously you are going to get to 30 posts before too much longer, but please refrain from any other references in the interim.
To answer a couple of questions from the thread, the rules state that noone is permitted to quibble about the price someone requests for their items. It is like going to the store. If you don't like the price, don't buy it. We expanded it a little more to stop a ongoing fighting trend to stipulate that you cannot object to a price formally. It just leads to arguments in most cases when it is permitted.
The Admin and the two mods have editing control to take out what we deem does not "fit". Objectionable comments or comments that add nothing to the conversation, etc like "Awesome!", "LOL" and the like do nothing for the conversation on their own. if someone wants to explain why they think something is awesome or funny, great. Spamming, particularly to get to the 30 mark, gets you a penalty and loss of post count. The rules are at the top of each forum section.
This sort of attention makes sense if there were niketalk numbers, but its not very busy here. i feel they are being a bit overzealous on my stupid little posting. It was mostly a JOKE! I was planning on getting someone involved with the joke and maybe running with it but nooooooooooo. Post 8 more times! Then your solid! I admit i should have realized the B&S rules. but i was not really intending on selling them I was trying to make a gag! I guess I am bummed the mods erased my dumb gag.

I think the point about pricing is that we just don't want to get into a value war directly on the boards. It just doesn't add anything. Now, I think there IS a thread on the main forum I started about figure values and such, and I think it got about as heated as anything around here. Feel free to resurrect it.

You could always write your price and also write that you take offers.

I loved the price you gave me for the 2 mannix figs. Just don't take anything personal and try to have fun no matter what.

Concerning the rules here :
1. The dude that owns the website has his own online action figure store. I think he is being more than generous by allowing us to sell and trade in his forums.
2. The rules that are in place have created an extremely safe and reliable network for members to trade in without the hassle of Ebay fees. I have completed around 15 or so transactions here and have been nothing but pleased. Everyone here is outstanding to deal with.
That being said, for a little while the rule was 50 posts before one could post in the Marketplace. The generous folk who moderate this site heard our pleas for a lesser requirement and we ended up at 30. The thirty post requirement is cool because it gives members a chance to meet you and gives a small glimpse of your personality. It's all about trust and the impression you make.

I appreciate that you are trying to have fun and we try to be flexible although sometimes the limits are stretched.
You posted some of your items in the Rogues Gallery which is correct for pictures of your collection. But then it got to a sale/trade situation when the point came that you named the "ransom" price . When someone disagreed with it it became a technical rules violation although no transaction should have been able to occur as you did not have the qualifying number of posts to do so.
Reaching 30 posts do not put you in a position of "being solid". We have had to ban scammers that had well more than 30 posts, but felt there should be some point where someone just does not come in to sell their goods and leave without contributing to the forum. Quite a few of them have turnd out to be scammers as well.
As for getting rid of posts, that comes with the territory. I did not dock you any of your post count because I deleted them and think you are capable enough of defending you prices, but once I deleted the post regarding party disagreeing with your price, it made the others seem out of place.
I would like to think that since I became a Mod in January and the rules were enacted in March that this has become an overall better place as the fighting and flaming have decreased to almost nothing and it is a more enjoyable place for members to visit, where they can be relaxed and free of hassles that cropped up on a regular basis. Inactive threads have been combined, outdated information has been deleted and hopefully it is easier to maneuver around in here than it was.
Thanks to the others who have posted before I got to this post this morning for their supporting comments as well.

outdated information has been deleted. my comment here has nothing to do with the topic at hand, being that i don't think it is difficult to post 30 posts outisde of spamisms and "+1" style posts. i DID notice this "outdated information" comment though. not ball busting, but there still are a lot of outdated, irrelevant posts taking up threads. like ebay auction links from many years ago. a lot of the older threads about figure lines that i am interested in seem to be a bunch of ebay auction links and people butt slapping each other (football teammate style. this isn't at all some type of homophobic reference ) over scoring and/or not over bidding, etc. there are also a lot of thread posts with picture links of images that are no longer available, be it posts from members flickr/photobucket that have now been deleted or just dead links. i'm guilty of a few myself (i.e., Monster by sungold). i was just wondering if there is a way to clean this type of stuff up, as it is semi annoying when i am information hunting over toy lines i am currently working on learning more about. i like to get some information on the toys, not who got what umpteen years ago on ebay.

You are right to a degree and I guess I am about to find out to what degree. The overall problem when I became a Mod was concentrated in the Marketplace and Collector's Corner areas. These areas were more saturated than the Figure talk sections. Most of the marketplace and CC areas were overrun with threads like you mentioned - dead links to photos and Ebay auctions - to the tune of 40+ pages in some instances that are now less than 10 pages. I think those are now running at optimum speed and unless someone has removed their photos in the past 45 days, those have been removed entirely in those areas. It has been extremely time consuming to get it to this point. I honestly had not even considered the Figure Talk section in the paring of these threads, but looked in the MOTU section a few minutes ago and the first one I saw from 2005 was exactly that. There was no photo and you could not tell what was being discussed. Apparently there is work to do in this section as well. Sometimes, though, the commentary, even if the photo may not be around, is worthwhile to keep. You may see some of those depending on the thread content. As for the butt slapping, I don't think that is a bad thing if it is not just a post builder. "Good job" is not a viable comment. Something like "I have always liked those because they interact well with my Joes" is. I don't think everyone would like it they made a nice haul and noone says anything about it. This is a talk/chat board, LOL. It may take some time, but I will see what I can do about the Figure Talk threads.

To update anyone who is concerned about the last discussed topic, I have probably put in close to 20 hours going through the MOTU section. I have removed the dead links to photos and Ebay auctions, but what consumes the most time is also getting it to make sense afterwards. generaly each time I removed soemthing, there were another 4 - 5 minimum comments on said photos or auctions that were no longer there and they have been removed also.
The 20 hours was just the MOTU section as I indicated. It is the largest of the divisions, but I still have one line to go, the monstrous Blackstar thread with 525 responses, by far the largest in there. That alone is going to take several more hours.
Once it is done, we will have to see how the other go. While they are somewhat smaller, they potentially have as much or more to remove. I don't have this amount of time every week to devote to this, so as I said, we will have to see how it goes. In the meantime, check out the MOTU section and see if it looks and feels better to navigate through the various threads. I hope the improvement is noticeable.

I spent a considerable amount of hours on the Blackstar line today in the MOTU section and completed it, so that section of the board is complete. No dead links to photos and referrals to deal Ebay links in there anymore along with the removal of comments pertaining to both. I am not going to touch the "General" section as it is filled with topics containing opinions rather than photos and items of that nature.
So, as I get time, I will be going through the remaining 6 sections of the Figure Talk portion of the board.
If you find I missed delting something, let me know.

I have completed the editing of the GI Joe/Military section. It did not take as long as the MOTU section, but was still time consuming.
Please browse through it if you like these lines and let me know if I missed anything. All links should go to some working site and the Ebay links are gone.
Anyone been through the MOTU lines section yet to see the difference? I am hoping with the editing that the sections still are reasonably easy to follow. Some of the threads were previously combined with others which may account for some comments not flowing as one might expect. I just hope that they make some sense to the readers.
On to the next section.

Thank you, kind sir.
I wish I had more time to put into it, but the last week has been eaten up with outside events. It is a time consuming process, moreso than the sales and collection display threads since conversations about long gone photos accompany practically each missing photo and have to be removed as well. If I had an ID thread, for instance and the photo was gone, the thread was basically worthless and could be deleted. With these, photos were sometimes added later or when threads were combined.
I hate leaving a page unfinished and have not made any progress since the last entry unfortunately. I will get it done, it is just a matter of time.
I am glad you can see the difference in what has been finished.

Thanks you also, Rihia2k. I just hope they make sense when I finish them. Some of the threads were combined and there are gaps in time. I have tried to get rid of the one word posts ("Awesome!", "LOL" and the like) as well as the dead links and comments regarding them. I hope there is enough left to make the threads interesting enough for people to go back and read (re-read).

The Superhero, Wrestling and Sports Figures section has now been edited completely. It feels like I deleted half of the posts.
I am not particularly looking forward to the Star Wars section.

The Star Wars, Sci-fi, Movie and TV Figures section has been reviewed and edited. Not as bad as anticipated, but still time consuming.
That leaves the Modern Toys discussion and the Other Toys section for review. The Modern section has 10 pages, so it may take awhile. The Other Toys section has 6 pages like Star Wars, but likely is not as complex. Then I will do a review of what has been added since I started this section for recent additions and then review again things like the Rogues Gallery that has potential bad links as I had done in previous months.

On to Other Toy Talk

SInce I finished the Modern Toy section earlier today, I thought I would try and complete the Other Toy Talk section. I am happy to report that it has been reviewed and edited as well and all of the sections in Action Figure Talk, with the exception of the "General" section are now done. I have also gone back into the ones already completed within the last month and revisited posts made since my review.
I did not consider doing a review on the "General" section as it basically is composed of members' opinions on a topic and likely does not have dead links like the other sections.
So, I am considering the section good to go. There may be some combining of threads done later as there are many that are on the same topic, but at least if you are looking for something, it should be a smooth read. If you find something that is not right, let me know. I will point out that there are a number of significant reference site contained in the threads. If you are looking for an answer to a question, you might find the answer in one of these threads.
I previously had gone through the other areas in the Sale/Trade and Collector area/photos for dead links. I will be revisiting these areas as well in the next week or three and it should be much easier since it was already done several months ago. I do not expect to find much in need of deletion.

It took longer than I anticipated, but all of the Marketplace section has been reviewed and edited - all Sale/Trade and Want lists, ID section (that was a pain - even through I had been through it before to delete dead links several months ago, new ones had quickly come up), Ebay and Trader Review sections.
I have also weeded out the Collector's Cantina deleting the former members of the forum.
I am going to skip the Collecting Tips section for the present and concentrate on the Rogues Gallery. Although I have been through it before to eliminate dead links, it seems the most burdensome remaining one although some are there are a couple of larger sections.
I think the Action Figure Websites will be after that before going back to the Collecting Tips. We are never going to have all of them listed in there and there are tons of sites mentioned in threads not listed there, so you may have to go back to the old threads if there are questions that cannot be answered.
Please let me know if I missed anything in the recently edited sections.

I have finished the review/editing of the Rogue's Gallery section. Unlike the previous sections, I have left in some of the comments I would not have previously, (ie "Awesome", "Awesome Collection", "Nice", "Nice Collection", etc) as collection photos deserve some sort of feedback and at times this was the only comment made. The dead photo and Ebay links have been deleted, as usual.

DONE!!!!!!!!!
With the completion of the editing/review of the "General" section, my 7 week review of every thread in every section of the Forum is now completed. All dead links to photos and old Ebay links have been eliminated along with corresponding conversations regarding them.
I hope this review makes everyone's reading more enjoyable. If you do happen across something that I have by chance missed, please let me know.

Thank you. I hope everyone can see the difference.
I know most of us are top readers, looking at the most recent threads and posts, but there is a lot of information and links to sites that may help people learn about collecting. I urge everyone to look in the back pages of their areas of interest to see what was discussed years ago as it is mostly stlll relevant today and you might find a site that can help you complete your collection. I just tried to make cetain that the links that still exist went somewhere. If anyone comes across a site that is still there, but is dead as far as activity, please alert me.
There are more links in the older threads than we can ever begin to capture in the Action Figure Sites thread that people do not realize are out there.

Sorry, but I have to agree with the comments on the mods and rules on this forum. I came across a pretty decent lot of figures and vehicles a couple weeks back. Most I have identified, but I did a google search for an action figure forum to try and figure out the identity of the rest. Every time I ask a question its gets shut down and I hear the "have to get 30 posts" crap! I don't know enough about what I have to make 30 intellegent posts.Thats why I came here to begin with! To get enough information about what I have to be able to participate. Unfortunatley the mods won't allow new guys enough freedom to even get started on here. Doesn't really make sense to me, sorry! No hard feelings.
