I think Hasbro really shot itself in the foot. Not by making these figures - I gather they're big sellers. But their biggest mistake is revamping the line in the 00's with new style sculpts and different body types, and then sought to incorporate the vintage style bodies for repaints and troop builder purposes. Sorry, you just can't do both. They should have either made the line totally modern or ( what I prefer) sticked with the old bodies altogether. Since I'm not a completist when it comes to Joes ( I collect them but only in passing, so to speak) I don't mind much and I'll pick up everything I'll come across - recently won a couple 2002 Joes that used vintage style bodies and they rock just as hard as the 90's ones.

saw wave 2 at my local Wal-mart Thursday. Beachhead, Lady Jaye, serpentor, Buzzer, and cobra Soldier (viper pilot).
Beachhead and the soldier are my faves. Serpentor looks all mopey; maybe coz it's impossible to put together a good sized squad of 25th cobras?

Is this right:
Wave 1: snake eyes, cobra commander, storm shadow, flint, & cobra officer.
Wave 2: buzzer, Lady Jaye, cobra trooper, serpentor, beachhead
Wave 3: Firefly, red ninja, stalker shipwreck, Zartan.

See, this is why I decided against collecting them. There is no end in sight, and it's already getting out of hand, with the slated release numbers. Just too many to keep going. I bet it will never stop. If it's a 25th anniversary, how can it span multiple years. Doesn't that make it the 26th anniversary for next year, and then the 27th anniversary, for the following year as well?
I can't bring myself to do it. Maybe I will pick up one or two figures of my favorite characters. I always did like beachhead. He always seemed kinda cool.

Yes, I seriously doubt they're going to overhaul the entire line in this revamped style. Hasbro has shot itself in the foot before, the discrepancy with the main line ( the one we all army-built like madmen) is too big to ever be compatible 100 %. That means if you have 50 vipers, 30 BATS and 25 Crimson Guard already, you're not going to crank out the 25th Cobra Commander to lead your troops because he just looks wrong with them. He only looks good when you surround him with other 25th style troops. You just can't maintain one line in two scales, the public won't buy it. If they drop the classic style collectors everywhere are going to give a collective 'meh' and write angry letters. The new style will get the boot once the well known main characters are done, just watch.

Wave 1 they say may get a refresher case. Big bad toy store has the case assortments up . Sometimes I love working retail. Toyrs r us are getting both 2 and 3 I picked up Red Ninja assortment last week. But then again I work at Toys r us. I may have the toy manager at Wal-Mart ordering me cases so I may have some run over, being I told her to order 20 cases. I don't know what they'll really get though.

Wave 1 snakeyes w/ timber (blk or wht Timber) Wave 3: stalker (grn ot Yellow) Shipwreck: (tattoo variation) Zartan ( color change/no cc, multiple pkg variants)
Thank god I'm no completist. I have all the ones I want through wave 3, thanks to some agressive hunting.

well, now they have vehicles out with drivers. and i don't think they revamped them, just used new paint schemes. I think they officially jumped the shark now with this line

I wouldn't really call it jumping the shark, it's just Hasbro being Hasbro. The silver pad Grand Slam coming with the Sharc tho, that just confuses me.

Hooded re-colored red and packed with a couple Crimson Guards. They make it hard for a guy who is trying to collect every version of CC.

Is there a red version of the helmet CC yet (as in my avatar, 'Enemy Commander') ? Last I heard the Red Shadows were canon in the Joe comics anyway.

That Red Laser does look pretty spiffy. I'm still pretty happy with my Enemy Commander though, I thought he was a legit figure for years. Even though he's a custom, I'm still damn happy.
Hard to belive that Cobra Commander never wore his royal red uniform in combination with that kick ass silver helmet in Joe canon. I was never a fan of the hood.

I'm not a Joe expert, but I am aware that there are a good number of new characters that Hasbro still hasn't "modernized" yet,but we're getting 5 packs of characters they have already put out, twice in some instances? Maybe with a tweak here and there? This is starting to look like the Star Wars line, and this is a BIG reason I got out of that almost 100%.

so, now that we are years into this line, and there is no end in sight for this line, who is still collecting it. Anyone?
On another note, I was in walmart the other day, and happened to see some box sets, called DVD battles. I picked up number 1 of 5, and 2 of 5. The first was the MASS Device package. It had 4 figures, and a piece of the mass device. One of the figures was snake eyes in his original costume with that radioactive container he salvaged from the original GI Joe mini-series. It is pretty cool. Timber was included, as was stalker, a cobra soldier pushing the 3 materials on the cart that power the mass device, and the barroness, in her scuba gear. The second package contained another piece of the mass device, and was called the WEATHER dominator DVD set. It also contained the second mini-series on DVD (revenge of cobra), a full weather dominator, roadblock, lady jaye, and destro. I liked them for the mass device I can build and teh weather dominator. Not sure what else they will have. My guess is that the 3 remaining sets will focus on the Arise serpentor series, maybe the GI Joe Movie, and then maybe the sinking of the FLAGG? I couldn't come up with a mini-series type feel for a 5th boxed set. They all focus around something big where they can release a DVD with it. I just don't know what the fifth could be.
I also picked up a comic 2 pack of nemesis enforcer and falcon. I always liked nemesis enforcer.

ah, I know what the fifth box will be, it will be the PYRAMID OF DARKNESS. That was another mini-series I forgot. I think it will be pretty cool, once they all get released.

A few months ago, for a multitude of reasons that I won't get into so people reading this won't ,I sold off my 25th Anniversary Joe collection. I was okay with it at the time but a week ago I was viewing pages from old Christmas catalogs and I came across a page that had some Joe stuff on it and I started feeling nostalgic again. After selling all my Joe items a few months back, I now have about half a dozen loose Joes on a shelf in my room again. Has anyone else gone through something like this?

I have over 200 cobra troops from the 25th anniversary line, (I just collect cobras) and overall I'm really impressed with the line. I think their reuse of existing figure parts works 90% of the time and I love the way they took foreign variants and redid them like Pilot Scarlett and Ninja Ku. However, Hasbro does some things that leave me scratching my head like- The Crimson Guards in the Extreme Conditions pack. It says right on their filecards that "They are too precious to be wasted in the conventional battlefield". So why would you stick the Crimson Guard in the middle of the desert? They would die out there wearing those stuffy suits. To add insult to injury, there is TWO of them in the set, what gives! Hasbro was already pushing their luck with the Toys R Us 3 pack that had the Crimson Guard Officer, and then the Toys R Us 10 pack that had the Squad Leader. I got one of each of those guys but that was it. What makes The Crimson Guard so cool is that they are a small select group of the best of the best. Plus, they are the "CRIMSON" Guard, so why keep repainting him? Sorry for going on, but my message to Hasbro is- Leave the Crimson Guard alone!

I only collect the Joe team and I feel the figures look about the best of any Joe figures in quite a while. Body parts were reused extensively even in the original Joe line starting in 1982, so that doesn't bother me so much. What DOES bother me a bit is the pretty constant re-releases of the same figure(s) over and over. Although I guess the question on that is would you rather be able to find a figure you want at retail or be at the mercy of ebay sellers on the secondary market? Some of the re-releases are stupid, in my opinion. I just saw some Hall Of Heroes today. They are pretty much a bunch of pointless re-releases.

I totally agree, I think Hasbro is really clever the way they reuse molds, a good example is the Cobra A.V.A.C. Pilot. He has Zartan's legs, and it works perfectly. But yes, Hasbro puts out the same characters over and over again, case in point the Deep 6 and Rock N Roll Comic 2 pack. They just released these two guys! They could have at least repainted Rock N Roll to reflect the 2nd version they made of him back in the day. Sure, if I don't like it I won't buy it, but in that 2 packs place, they could have put out a B.A.T./ Techno Viper 2 pack instead. That would have sold like hotcakes, unlike the Deep 6/ Rock N Roll 2 packs that are clogging up the isles at my local stores.

Yeah, I don't get the Hall of Heroes line at all. Why would someone want to pay more $ and have to go on line to get figures that are available in stores? Although I would like to get me some of those Battle Damaged B.A.T.S.! Oh Hasbro, you do know what I like.

I just was able to pick up the TRU exclusive set with Firefly and the four Joe troopers. The only head on any of the troopers that I didn't immediately recognize as a re-used head was the trooper with Hawk's head but a side by side comparsion ended that. The Joe troopers was a somewhat interesting idea by Hasbro even though everything about them was recycled.
