I think the best one is the SDF-1 playset from Robotech Matchbox!

I would have to go with the vintage Kenner Death Star playset. I loved the trash compactor with the little green monster.

I have to go with Dungeons and Dragons Fortress of Fangs playset. The trapdoors, walls of spikes, lava pit around the treasue chest all made it exciting to play with. Coming second is a tie between the Ghostbusters house and Castle Greyskull.

This is a tough one for me. I had the original Gi. Joe playset as well as the mobile command center for years, and had hours and hours of fun with them. I also love Boulder Mountain, but my favorite has to be the Fortress of Fangs. Seriously, it had the best layout ever, and it looked so cool. You didn't have to fold anything out or open anything, it was always ready to go. I think a problem with a lot of playsets is that they tried to be collector's cases too.I bought one on clearance at Toys R Us when I was a kid, man I wish I kept it. If I could have anything from the D&D set it would be that.

Second on the Ewok Village. It's large and an actual functional playset with tons of goodies. And well made. If you've ever seen three of these laid out in a triangle it's a real treat.

The cool thing with the Ewok Village was that it was rereleased in a different colour scheme as the Robin Hood Prince of Thieves playset as well. I want the robin hood version as it is probably cheaper than trying to get the Ewok one. Same playset but released years apart which strangely might affect the price.

Does anybody else consider the larger ships in the Star Wars line to be Play Sets? I always thought of The Millennium Falcon to be just as good of a play set if not better than The Death Star! Same could also be said for The Sandcrawler and The AT-AT. Those weren't just vehicles... they were GIANT PLAY SET ADVENTURES!!!
But aside from that, the best Play Set i ever had was the Weeble-Wobble Winnie the Pooh Treehouse. That thing was VERSATILE! It doubled as The Ewok Village, Yoda's home on Dagobah, the lair of The Swamp Thing, the treetop home of The Monchichi's, a secret COBRA hide-out in the Everglades... cripes, is there anything we DIDN'T use that treehouse for?

I see your point at least about the falcon and sandcrawler as they not only had a lot of room in the interior, but they also each had a lot of obstacles/accessories in there too. But probably not technically classified as playsets for most people. You mentioning the AT-AT makes me think of the Go Bots AT-AT looking thing which turned into a command center playset. I had that one as a kid and it was pretty awesome. I would have to rank that one pretty high. I think I got it because the AT-AT was impossible to find in my area, those and falcons would be bought up real quick.

I miss my Cobra TerrorDrome... That was an awesome playset. Unfortunately, it was also extremely large and took up a lot of space! I really like the GI Joe Headquarters, and the best part is that it separated into three parts... also it didn't take up a lot of space when stored.
I remember reading and seeing pictures in an action figure magazine of playsets for Harry Potter. They looked impressive because they could stack on top of each other. Now I would like to see some GI Joe The Pit Headquarters do THAT! or Star Wars Death Star playsets do that...
This way it meets everyone's needs... you can get the parts you want, and/or get multiples and stack them, or customize them. AND not selling a big huge playset all at once...
I would make a very tall vertical playset to display my figures!

Mego's Wayne foundation & USS Enterprise Kenner's Death Star Space Station Mattel's Space:1999 Moonbase Alpha(would the Eagle 1 spaceship count?) SW Legacy Big Millenium Falcon(I know it was released last year, but it is a work of art and it was worth the $150.00 price) From the 1990's, Playmates' ST:TNG USS Enterprise bridge(my nephew had it when he was little. I shot some really cool video of it with his collection of figures. Wish I knew where that tape went to.)

Man, I am trying to find a good playset to either customize... or do something to make a bad-a$$ Cobra base... Anyone have suggestions? Ideas? Uh, let me rephrase this... yeah I could get a cobra terror drome again... but that is huge! Something a bit on the scale of the Star Wars Death Star... which is giving me an idea....

Last week, I managed to obtain a mostly complete Captain Power Power Base, a playset so rare that I had no idea it even existed until I found it. I'd post pics if my camera wasn't currently broken but, suffice to say, this is the absolute dream Batcave playset. Granted, the computer consoles all show images of Captain Power, but if you can get past that, this thing is everything Batman fans ever wanted a Batcave to be -- platforms, ramps, a central computer station, and it all looks like it was carved directly out of the side of a cave. It's gigantic too. I will definitely post pics as soon as I can.

I had Boulder Hill (which occasionally doubled as a COBRA base) and the Hall of Justice. Loved 'em both.

This! Mine got thrown downstairs and it survived with minor damage iirc. I also loved the Action Force cardboard HQ, a knock off death star playset and the Z Force Command Center (GI Joe Repaint).

Last week, I managed to obtain a mostly complete Captain Power Power Base I officially hate you, not as much as if it were MIB or MISB but I hate you Definitely the Power Base- I'd also add Boulder Hill as people have said and maybe the Dagger Assault from Visionaries if we count large vehicles (which I have MISB)

Recently I acquired the G.I. Joe Headquarters, with the box. I believe it's missing the hose and nose, I think I'll have to recheck it, for 10 dollars at an indoor flea market. It also had 11 joes in it and Bobba Fett.
This playset is awesome, plus it makes noise.
my other favorite playsets: Castle Greyskull Superpowers hall of justice Pee-wee's playhouse Starriors - armoured battle station. It has a giant snake coming out of it!!.

great playset shaxper, how long did it take you to assemble it? It's been a slow evolution. I created the initial design almost twenty years ago as an adolescent and, from time to time, pulled it out and/or rebuilt it to make improvements. However, some of the biggest changes happened over the past few months, during which time it more than doubled in height and had major modifications made to all but the second floor.

ALTHOUGH MORE VEHICLES THAN PLAYSETS I HAD ROLLING THUNDER AND MY COUSIN HAD THE GENERAL THEY WERE AWSOME. I ALSO HAD CASTLE GREYSKULL, SNAKE MOUNTAIN, THE FRIGHT ZONE AND THE TOMB OF DOOM. OTHER GOOD ONES THAT FRIENDS HAD THAT I WAS ABLE TO PLAY WITH WERE THE FORTRESS OF FANGS, MUM RA'S TOMB, THE HYVE, THE MOBILE COMMAND CENTRE AND CASTLE GREYSKULL(2002)- SORRY IF THAT'S A LONG LIST!!

Just wanted to throw out Snake Mountain, since I didn't see it during a cursory glance of this thread. Other favorites would be Eternia, USS Flagg (that's a playstation IMO, not a vehicle), Pee Wees Playhouse, Starriors Armored Battle Station, AD&D Fortress of Fangs and would've love to have seen the AD&D Snake Cave playset come to fruition...

My brother had a lot of Mighty Max stuff. The Skull Master and Dragon Island where awsome. Skull Mountain reminded me of Snake Mountain.

My top favorite must be the mythic complete deathstar. where many sets where put together into a complete circle.
Apart from that it's the Palace of the Gems. Don't own any of these though.
