I remember the days when you could go to places and pick up everything really cheap. Now you pick up a crappy condition Star Wars figure and they try and charge you a tenner for it.
In a way it makes it more exciting though when you find good stuff. I got a complete first seies of Dino Riders for about $15 and a massive bag of Action Force containg all the rare uk drivers. Sold the drivers for $120 but the guy claimed he never got them and paypal screwed me for the money.

Oof, this is a toughy...
My best find at a yard sale was a vintage Marx Tin Barn complete with all the animals and equipment for FREE. Funny story, I was at a sale and noticed a big box with that barn and animals and some of the old school wooden FP Little People. I just wanted the Little People so I asked how much. She told me $2 so I took them and paid her. As i'm walking away she told me to take the rest of the box too and I said I didn't want it. She begged me to or it was getting tossed so I agreed. The Barn sat in the back of my car for weeks until I got tired of looking at it and tossed it in the trash. My father in law saw it and took it back out saying that tin toys hadn't been made for the longest time so I did some research and he was correct. Just on a whim I put the barn and all the animals/equipment up on Ebay. Well to my suprise it ended at a whopping $185!!!

This was at a Flea Market, so I don't know if it counts, but I picked up a G1 Optimus and G1 Megatron (and a couple others) still in their boxes for $5 bucks a piece. The guy was literally unpacking them as I happened to be walking by, so I was very lucky.
At a different Flea Market I scored a Fort Max for $30 and the Greatest American Hero and Bill in a bag of Fisher Price Adventure People for $2.

Last summer i hit a garage sale where a couple older women won an auction the night before and what they won was a complete inventory of a comic/toy store in the area. They priced all the action figures and busts at $2 a piece and all the comics including a ton of silver age stuff at .25 a piece. Needless to say i completely filled my car from trunk to the front seat for about $150. The other deal i got was a lady had a hotwheel box and for those that know about hotwheels i got about 20 redlines for .25 a piece.

Let's see.................... I've had a hand full of doozies over the years.
I got a boxed Sectaurs Dargon w/Dragonflyer at a yard sale 2 summers ago for $3.
At a garage sale about 8 years ago there was a huge bag filled with hundreds of loose figures, mostly Power Rangers and others from the 90's. Way at the bottom I spotted an original A-wing pilot and Amanaman from '84. I told the lady I only wanted those 2 and she dug them out while explaining that her husband was a collector and she'd have to ask him for a price. I thought "Great, here's where I say nevermind". She called into their house for him like 3 times and after getting no reply she turned to me and whispered "Just take 'em".
But by far the biggest score I've ever had was back in '99 when I responded to an ad in the Seattle Times for "GIJoe Battleship $50". So I called, set up a time to go check it out ,and made a 30 mile drive. Once there I was greeted by a USS Flagg that was in great shape. It was missing the forward deck piece (the 99 piece), the Admiral figure, and a few small things. But there was an incredible amount of small things that were there like a complete radar mast, all of the radar dish stems, all but 7 of the deck clips, and every piece for the control room. It even had the instructions/blueprints. It was all piled in this ugly, white colored, wicker basket thing. When I reached for my wallet to pay the lady she said "I've had that ad in the paper for a month and you're the only person to respond. If you take the basket with you, you can have the boat for free". What else am I going to say other than "OK"? So, I found the missing deck piece about 3 months later on eBay for $30 and picked up all of the other various small parts here and over the corse of about a year. When all was said and done I had probably spent $60 on a complete Flagg. I had to sell it a few years ago (along with my Defiant) to pay for art school, but it was fun while I had it.

Before the world of ebay got so big,
ANYTHING was possible.
I've found several several TMNT and Heman just waiting for me at a flea market about a year or so. My boyfriend was collecting hemen at the time so we were sooo excited.

Whew, this is a great question.
I found a GI Joe USS Flagg in the box at a Goodwill for $8; for a MIB G1 Jetfire at Goodwill for $0.99; this past summer I found a 12 inch Princess Leia and a 12 inch Luke Skywalker complete in their original boxes (1977 versions) for $5 a piece; found an Indiana Jones Belloq figure in a free box a couple summers ago. These are all I can think of right now - usually my summer garage sales turn out some pretty good stuff. I guess that is why I don't like paying a lot of money for toys - I figure if I am patient, I will find it at a garage sale/flea market/thrift store eventually. You just have to keep going - I think I posted it in another thread, but you find good stuff about 10-15 percent of the time you go to those places - you have to fight through the other 85% where all you find is crap.

well it wasnt a yard sale but....there was a store near me around 14 years ago, it was a department store, and it was the only place in my town that still had star wars figures from the first trilogy, kenners original line, admiral akbar, bib fortuna, endor soldier.piles of them.
a local toy dealer had seen them but didnt pick them up,so i told my friend and he said lets go and see, as we walked into the store the woman was putting them in the trash! we told her we wanted them and she said well i cant give them to you so i will charge you one penny (2 cents)so you will have a reciept
we got 150 mint carded figures of three different characters for one penny.
i sold my half to the dealer for £25-$50!

70% of my collection comes from yard sales and flea markets. 20% from stores 9% from trades and just 1% from Ebay as I've used it just once myself and a 4 or 3 times some friends had bought some figures for me. Last week I bought one loose Corps and 4 loose Adventure Man for just $ 4, all of them in great conditions, strong joints and all that. One of the best finds was a loose Scare Glow for just $ 2 new! I look for the accessories but just found some Snake men accs, Snake Face shield, Sssquezze serpent and Tung Lashor staff for just $ 1 all new stuff, even bright, that was the best part

I just had an awesome run of all 80's figures at one of the three local flea markets a couple weeks ago. al items were a dollar or less. starting with AD & D nightmare complete, several D & D figures as well. a-team murdock, 2 inhumanoid figures, zoton robot defender, rex converters, G1 cosmo & mighty crusader. I turned down a bad super powers superman and beat up silverhawk. since going to this certain flea market, I managed to get some good stuff. The parts I needed help identifing of voltron and such also came from this place. I can't wait till it's spring and everybody is selling there.

About 3 years ago, in the middle of driving to a mall in another city (about an hour-long drive), my friend and I stumbled upon a yard sale in some backwoods neighborhood. The only reason it caught my attention was because I clearly saw action figures standing on some picnic table.
So we rushed the place, and I ended up buying literally 20 or 25 Ninja Turtles (from the late '80s-early '90s period). I'm pretty sure I didn't spend more than 30 bucks on the lot. I had a whole bunch from when I was a kid, and 4 or 5 of these were doubles, but I kinda lost my mind and went for it all.
Got a lot of cool, kinda random characters like Tattoo, Sandstorm and Walkabout. And about 50% of them came with the cards (not intact), so I also got those cool little profile things on the bottom left corner.
I think that'll always be the best find I've ever made at a yard sale.

I've had a lot of great finds since I started hunting about 8 months ago. At the same Goodwill I got an 8 in. Mego Incredible Hulk, Mego bendy Capt. Marvel, Mego bendy Aquaman, Wag from the Starroid Raiders line, Shipwreck, Bar B Que, Frostbite, and Wet Suit from ARAH, G1 Scorponok, and the 18 in Voltron with all 5 lions.
Today a New Orleans thrift store I got the A D&D Fortress of Fangs for 1.95.

I've never had all that much luck at yard sales or Goodwill. My best for Yard sales would have been a G2 Optimus Prime and two G1 targetmaster Transformers, and at Goodwill I scored a nearly complete Voltron Castle of Lions. Beyond that, I haven't found much.

I had a minor find yesterday and another today. I also had a major miss today.
Yesterday I got 2 Universal Monsters Wolfman action figures for a buck each.
Today I got Sherrif Bravestar, Raphael, Rocksteady, a yet to be id'd Dick Tracey action figure, a JLU the Flash, several Fisher Price little people hourses, and a pink Power Ranger for 1.79.
Unfortunately I missed the boxed Voltron set that was with all the board games. I looked over my shoulder to see another guy pulling it off the shelf. It was the big set that the figures fit in. I went and talked to the guy who was a kit basher and collector. He said it was by far his best find ever. How could it not be?

I used to work for salvation army for one year, I will say that this was a dream job. Screw being an actor or celebrity with tons of money, This was christmas everyday. because the salvation army's policy was, we really don't sell toys. and my boss knew i collected toys and she let me have anything I wanted for free, boxes of stuff. here's a partial list of things I got out of the army. vintage star wars figures fisher price muppets action jacks outfits MOC rare ones, about 10-12 car case with several hot wheels custom redlines 8 original matchbox cars from 1958 mint in box several TFs, scorponcs all were incomplete spiderman vs fantastic four board game giant spiderman coloring book several comic books 1959 die cast hubley cap gun several board more board games all the video games from all types of systems. even famiclone with several games plus many more, i've forgotten I spend one magical year in heaven, and then they closed our store and tore it down. I think they did it just to spite me. and finally last week I picked up a SP superman without cape for 50 cents. Spank
