A lot of people here are fans of both The Other World and Dragonriders of The Styx. There are a lot of similarites between the two lines, yet they are each completely unique from each other as well as any other toys. But what if you could only collect one of these? Which would you choose?

The Other World. More variety in the creatures available.

Dragonriders of the Styx. Not bendies.
No that's not fair, I just really like a few of the things in that line. But they both have a few very creative things.

I'd have to go for The Other World on the strengh of Castle Zendo Dragonriders of the Styx. Not bendies. Get with the times, even Shup likes bendies these days

And the answer is............. Crystar.
No, just kidding, Other World and Dragonriders are a much better comparison to one another for lots of reasons.

Yes, I would loosely categorize The Other World as 3 3/4". Some of the figures are closer to 4", but most of the primary characters, other than Raidy, are right around 3 3/4". I guess the reason I think of them with Dragonriders is that they are kind of oddball "pharmacy toys" that were just kind of thrown out onto the market to exploit the Masters of The Universe craze. For that reason Crystar is definitely in the same ballpark, but correct me if I'm wrong, IMO Crystar was a little bit more original, and was a little more legit, what with the Marvel Comic and everything. Obviously the real knocks were Galaxy Warriors and the other lines that copied the aesthetics of MOTU, but The Other World and Dragonriders are knock offs in spirit equally.

Even though The Other World and Dragonriders don't have any kind of media as their basis or as support, I think it's cool how you kind of get the idea of each line's world just from each one's combination of their cast of characters. I'd say MOTU ushered in the fantasy figure craze and showed it could be successful, but I think a lot of lines did their own creative things and themes from there. And It was probably just a matter of time before the action figure industry realized fantasy was a big market with the resurgence in popularity of the Tolkien, Lewis, and Alexander books and Dungeons and Dragons begining in the late 70s.

i was never a real big heman fan because i had a bunsh of star wars and joes and other 3 3/4 figures already. but i sort of thought both other world and dragonriders had actually come out before heman?
i was 10 in 82 and i was already playing dungeons and dragons with my dad and his friends. so at the time i was actually way more into the dungeons and dragons action figures. i think i had a dragonriders guliz figure and a crystar figure. but no otherworld. i had a couple of heman because my friends were into it but i got bored of heman really fast because they all had the same super built bow legged body. i liked the D&D line because though alot were too brite and oddly colored, they had a really cool variety of scale. the little dwarf up to the giants.
but as an adult my favorite line is dragonriders, im not really sure why?

I can remember seeing the devil warrior w/wings at Kay-Bee toys on the pegs, but mom wouldn't have me playing with the devil. Maybe that's why I like them so much today. Also there is kind of a mystery and unknown about these guys.

i think the otherworld is the most interesting because of how diverse the line is. if dragonriders had continued or at least been in multiple waves it would be more interesting, the black knight from dragonriders is still one of my all time favorites tho!

I discovered Other World years ago when I first got the internet and always figured because they were bendy toys, they'd be hard to find in good condition. While I admired the imagination the line had, I figured trying to collect them would be a pain. Flash forward a few months ago, when I stumbled across two Other World guys in a bargain baggie at an antique store...wow...never thought I'd actually see them in person. I bought them (Raidy and Ronin) right away and quickly hunted on eBay to build up a collection. I'm surprised at how good a condition all the ones I've won have been in! Right now I only need Weaponsmaster, Lava Man, Jurka, Ess Gee, Kreena, Moc, and Sir Cobra...plus the castle and more weapons. Love 'em to death! I looked into Dragonriders. They are equally cool, but in their own special way of course. Problem is that they seem to be harder to find. Not many yard sales or flea markets for me, so eBay is my only choice. For now, by default, I'm liking Other World. Don't hate 'cause they're bendy! Besides, they have a greater element of likeable kitsch...and like I said before...designs are much more unique and imaginative.

I would say Dragonriders, I remember back in the day I saw Tron in the Theater with my Mom, then we went to K-Mart, and she got me Dragon Man. Moms are the best!

Oh man, tough call here. I had most all the Other World stuff and it holds a higher place in my heart out of nostalgia, but you have to stand in awe of the bloody odd beast mounts with psuedo-human faces in the Dragonriders line.
Oh and NOOB! How are ya'll?

I'm really surprised several of you really like Dragonriders of Styx. I kind of think of them as a crummy, generic, toyline.
It's strange saying this, since I had the whole set as a kid (and I still have the figures and "vehicles").
I remember my mom buying a whole bunch of them one day from Kay-bee. I think the only she bought me the whole lot was because the toys were heavily marked down.
I do admit, the Black Knight was the best figure of the lot. But some of the figures are down right crappy, I have that black and silver two-faced dude that came with that weird skull sled. The figure is really shoddy since the sculpt for the head is so poorly done.
And what's up with those weird wheeled vehicles?!
Of the two, the Other World is better, imo. I liked the myriad of weapons and the colorful characters.

I have a few of each, and I gotta say, they both have awesome aspects to them:
Other World:
- The "creatures" are just awesome. Yurus, Froggacuda and Sir Cobra are incredible figures just on wackiness alone. - Castle Zendo is a really cool piece, especially the door (I always thought) - Some very cool-looking bendies (Weapons Master, Lava Man, Skitzo)
Dragonriders:
- As with OW, some interesting designs (Guliz, Dragon Man) - The main strength of this line for me are the vehicles. There were some awesome vehicles like Demon Flyer and Serpent Rider. It seems the vehicle driver figures were even cooler than the main line.
I love both lines honestly, but only certain aspects of both. Sure do miss these types of toys, that's for sure.

Don't you agree the rider-exclusive figures are cooler than the main lines?

My top 3:
1. Fantar's Rider/Black Guliz (equally cool) 2. Demon Flyer Rider (awesome figure) 3. Dragon Man (just plain goofy)
