Does anyone collect these? I know they are hard to track down. They also have a fractured history, being released prior to the time I had them as a child, around 1978 or 1979. I have seen auctions on ebay that make it obvious that they were released first in the early 70s,being called something else besides LOTW. If anyone doesn't know what I'm talking about, these were 3 3/4" figures of legendary western historical characters, such as Geronimo,Jesse James, etc. They were part solid construction, part rubber band construction in build. I wish someone would re-create the line with todays enhanced sculpting and painting methods. Gabriel's 3 3/4" Lone Ranger and Zorros lines were better done western lines than this one was.

Hey Raider, after composing myself and wiping the drool away from my mouth,I have to say "Great collection!". You and I must either be roughly the same age or about on the same page collecting-wise. I do have a question. You have a close up of Mattel's Flash Gordon,I think on one of the first pics down. Who is the blue guy to Flash's left? Also, where did you get all the Legends Of The West? Mostly on ebay? Anyhow, you got some cool stuff there! ;D

I have a bunch of these guys carded, though not the whole line. Picked them up a few years back on Ebay though haven't tried to finish off the line or snag any of the vehicles yet.
Spokoda, if you check the main site archive theres a Flash Gordon section that should answer your question.

i love this line.i have almost thoe whole line i think. as far as i know there was a cardboard town made for it but that i have never seen and am not certain if it exists. i would love to see them redone today with the better sculpt and paint. heres some cool old toy adds i have for them. i also love the lone ranger, zorro, butch and sundance lines, and those lines are done much better.

These were for sale as late as 1983/84 in Canada at Zellars. I bought some the same day I bought Firefly and Stormshadow from G.I.Joe when they first came out. I have a good collection of these but they are not the easiest to find...

well this is something i did and posted somewhere about 4 years ago.no one seemed to interested but i thought i would dig it out and post in this thread.because i really liked this line. i thought i would share my collection and what i know of this line. for some reason this is one of the very few lines that i can never see any kind of forum dedicated too online somewhere. i think its a great little line of 4" figures. please if you have anything or know of anything in this line that is not shown here then please share your knowledge. help us know what were looking for. after chasing this line for quite awhile i won an auction awhile back that came with this great little pamplet showing the line. a few months later i won a great lot of 16 figures. when they arrived it was the exact same 16 figures that are shown in the pamplet. so is this all of the figures that were made in the line? here i sit the figures in the same order as they are listed on the pamplet. at top youll see a few extra accessories, these are the ones im not yet certain who they belong too. there are also 5 vehicles that were put out in the line. the buckboard wagon. the covered wagon. here they are together with the legends of the west and lone ranger versions of general custer modeling with them for fun. also theres the stagecoach and the peddlers wagon. here they are with the legends of the west and lone ranger versions of buffalo bill. and the firewagon. i just very recently got the fire wagon and i have not attached the stickers to it yet. each ot the vehicles came with horses and a figure. i have about a dozen of the various horses and i dont think a single one of them stands up for crap, they are definately the lowpoint of the line. which is why i didnt want to bother with putting there bits and bridles on them and posing them with the vehicles. the fire wagon comes with the white horses. the peddlers wagon comes with the grey horse that has a little red hat. and i believe that the other 3 wagons come with the brown and tan spotted horses. the white with brown spots horse i believe was the indian action pony that came carded with a figure and the black horse with white spots was carded with the buffalo bill figure. the stage coach also came with a buffalo bill figure. the covered wagon with the wild bill figure. and the buckboard with the wyatt earp figure. the fire wagon came with a buffalo bill figure that was done in a different color scheme wearing a wyatt earp vest. shown here compared to the regular buffalo bill figure. and my 2 billy the kid figures that are the only actual variant figure i have seen so far. you can also see in the picture of the peddlers wagon thats its shown coming with some other figure wyatt earp? in a different color scheme, this figure i dont actually have so im not certain whethere or not it actually came with a variant? here are a sampling of the accessories that came with the wagons. i believe the covered wagon the buckboard and the stage coach all came with the dark brown tools. from what i remember the stage coach came with the dark blue stuff. and i think maybe the buckboard and covered wagon with the tan items. and the yellow and green items were with the peddlers wagon. heres the sheets that came with the fire wagon. i have a few other sheets from a few other vehicles but dont seem to have remembered to uplaod them i will try to get them on tomorrow. i know there was also a legends of the west town, but i believe it was just a cardboard backdrop and i have never come across it.

thank you guys for the nice comments. i love the line,i dont know why? i mean its kind of cheaply made the sculpts arent very good and they look nothing like the real people.but i love it.and i think it along with fisher price adventure people are the 2 oldest 3 3/4 lines. but im still not certain if theres more or not? did the town actually exist? im pretty sure theres still one driver i dont have. and ive been emailed by 3 or 4 people through the years that say they have a couple figures that are not in these pictures but then i never hear back from them.
i love the variety of vehicles and figures though.would love to see this line updated some day.

You need to start a reference website for the Legends Of The West line. So very little is ever written about this line and it's one of my favorites from way back when.

i have actually wanted to start a little website for awhile, a site to feature a few of the cool smaller 3 3/4" lines that kevin lents wonderful archive( www.toymania.com/334archives/ ) doesnt cover. but i know absolutely nothing about web design and am purposely working less and living very cheap at the moment.

I have always wanted to start collecting this line and all of your amzing pics 3/34_4"collector make me drool. I have avoided this line as well as Butch and Sundance cause I feel I would never be able to find everything. But, I think I might take the slow plunge to collecting these guys.

Wow what a fantastic line! I really miss the variety back then. Are these 3.75" or 4"+ as someone mentioned earlier? Love those wagons....

They are def. 4 inches tall. They look like pro basketball players compared to the Lone Ranger and Butch and Sundance lines. I love the wagons too. I just need that dang Fire Wagon. One sold on ebay for $10 bucks last month and I missed it!! D'OH!
And Why can't I find Deadwood Dick anywhere. He is the only one I haven't seen.
BTW 3/34_4"collector...I would to see your collection!

I finally picked up the Fire Wagon and out of the 2 that I have each came with a variant driver. One is the Buffallo Bill repaint and the other is a weird blond repaint of Jesse James. Hadn't seen this one before.

I know. I am just so thankful that you posted all the info you had just so I could kind of start to figure out this line. It is fun to find all the badly painted variants.
