To tell the truth I had never really paid a whole lot of attention to custom made figures. I bought a custom off of ebay not too long ago and liked the work as the figure was still articulated despite being customized. That lead me to start poking around and depending on the type and scale of the figure, it actually can be more difficult to find custom figures that the articulation survives the custom process than I imagined. Some people have done great things customizing things like 8 inch Mego dolls but that normally consists of more custom clothing for the doll than adding paint, etc. Some customizers have more imagination and creativity than they do skill. I have seen some figures that, no disrespect meant to anyone, I would be ashamed to offer up for sale. I guess it's like what some people say about playing guitar. Everybody can "play a little guitar" but only 1 out of every 100 can do it exceptionally well.

I look at a lot of customs on various sites I go to, and the majority really don't impress me. I have been working on several customs myself for awhile now but I have never shown any. I personally am just not content or satisfied unless it looks like an actual factory figure, im sort of vain and would not show most customs Ive seen. ive also never really understood the people that sell customs or do commissions because again I have seen people post pics saying this is a commission I made for someone. and I just look at it and think wow someone is paying you for that? kind of like with any other form of art I cant really see it as art or think about buying it if I can do it myself. now all of that said there are 2 customs I have ever purchased, but they were both fully sculpted wax figures that were cast and painted by bantha5. there were no used parts of kitbashing. for the most part the only customizers that have really impressed me are ones that sculpt from scratch figures, as well as some that just do spectacular paint apps. I would have to be extremely self impressed with my own work to ever consider trying to sell customs.

I make custom and sell them from times to times. But I made a point to only sell customs that retained all the articulation and offered something that looked just as good as the line I'm making the customs for. If a custom has some kind of mistake or fault to it I may photograph it to share on custom figure sites but I don't sell them. I have bought a custom before but the articulation in one of the arms was glued shut so I had to remove the arm and fix what was wrong and now the figure has the full ranger of motion.
