It seems like some people will collect EVERYTHING that comes across their path for the right(cheap I mean) price. Its like " Hey everybody I have Captain Crappy and the Turd Burglars all mint on card, anybody interested ? " Yeah, send me a pic Ive been looking for those. Have you REALLY been looking for them ? Or if they are five cents a piece you've been looking for them. Or has toy collecting just become keeping up wit the Jones ? Basically when do you start to pass on items.......... Is anyone there yet ? Dont get me wrong I see a huge lot of junk I go crazy out of curiosity to what may be lying in the bottlom fo the pile. Im just wondering whats the general feeling about it.

I only collect what I like and what I have room to display. Granted everytime I see another cool line from my childhood I want to buy it.

I pretty much just buy what I like. I have stuff I had as a kid, stuff I wanted as a kid and newer stuff I just like the look of.
I have no interest in completing lines for the sake of it, if I get something I wouldn't otherwise buy in a job lot I may hang on to it 'because I collect these' but that's about it.

When I do buy lot of figure that include some that I may not have bought by themselves I sometimes fall into collecting those, but mainly I'm as Clambo on that one, I aim at series I had had or wanted as a kid.
The others series I buy are mostly movie figure, which are generally much shorter and go hand by hand with my cinematic craves.
I often end up in the comic or toy shop and found notting of interest if they don't have vintage stuff or specific movie figure I'm looking for.

If the price is cheap, I will buy it. Usually once I find a line to collect, I try to complete it though there are many that i don't actively search for, only if i happen to come across them. For example, i have never bought any GI Joe or He-Man stuff off Ebay, I just pick everything up from other collectors in trades.
Also not collecting any modern lines helps, especially for space issues. Don't get me wrong theres allot of great new lines out there, i just limit myself to vintage, mostly for space reasons.

I get most of my stuff from Garage Sales and Flea Markets. And, Yes, I buy most everything if it's cheap enough. However, I have become more selective in the past couple of years. I won't buy anymore Batman figures, Disney figures, Independence Day figs - even if they're a quarter a piece. I don't have a list written out - but I know what I don't want when I see it.

same here. i collect things I had or wanted as a kid. Occasionally, I collect something that I never new existed as a kid, but once I see it, I realize I would have liked to have had it as a kid. Kinda like the Knickerbocker line for LOTR. I didn't know it existed, but I remember watching that movie as a kid, and liking it. So I picked up some of the figures. But all in all, I have no interest in new stuff. I especially dig stuff that I watched as a cartoon as well. that is why if there is no cartoon, the chances are I didn't really collect or want it as a child. I watched a lot of tv after school and on Saturdays!!

If it's cheap enough and if it's nifty enough, I'll pick it up. I have one of the most miss-matched collections you're ever likely to see.

Well, i do have some lines i want complete, but i'm not actively searching for those missing items, since i'll most likely get those cheaper in lots, i'm a huge fan of Playsets and Vehicles of different lines, some from wich i don't even own one figure.......allthough it fills my room pretty fast.. And i dunno why, but i buy so many Turtle lots, a lot of let's say 10 figs, but i only need one of those....but the price is right and i just Love the Turtles..

I'll start to collect one line, then get sidetracked by another. Like others, I prefer to stick to stuff that I did have as a youngster and want to replace it, or stuff I never got the chance to get back then. As far as modern stuff goes, I mostly stick to SW stuff. But how many Vaders does a person really need? Now when it comes to modern SW figures, I go for the higher end stuff(VOTC, Evolutions, & the collector tins). I'm really looking forward to the upcoming EU comic 2 packs, the cantina band tin set, the DS confrence room set, the Imperial troops with removable helmets, and the Academy Uniform Biggs Darklighter. I'm a sucker for Micronauts/Microman, the 3 3/4" Mego stuff, and Mattel's Battlestar Galactica line. If only Majestic Studios would launch a BSG 3 3/4"(old & current shows), life would be perfect.

I will definitely avoid to buy something I do not like, even if it is 10¢! Only one condition will bring me to buy it: the hope to resell or trade it. Back in 2007, I found a loose She-Ra Sundancer for one buck in the flea market. I bought it, even though I already had one. What I did is, I traded it for a loose Catra figure on He-Man.org. So, buying something I don't like (or already have) even at low price is very rare for me. Unless I have a strong chance to resell it or trade it on a forum.

In 2011 and 2012, CollectA and Safari ltd released tons of unseen dinosaur species and Bullyland has added neat Dryads to its catalog. This is exactly why I avoid buying things I'm not looking for, even for 10¢. There is enough good stuff to look for already.

ENOUGH IS NEVER ENOUGH IF YOU LOVE WHAT YOUR DOING

ENOUGH IS NEVER ENOUGH IF YOU LOVE WHAT YOUR DOING I agree with this, up to a certain point. In the past I have had issues with impulse control and I bought 95% of whatever figure KB or Big Lots had cheap that week as long as it looked remotely interesting. Over the years I have had to tame the ravenous collecting appetite I once had and now I spend around 10-20% of what I used to spend in the peak years(per year). I no longer will buy figures just because they can be had cheap unless I want them or collect them. Two mega popular franchises have never grabbed my interest, Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I have no Transformers and the only TMNTs I have are the Star Trek crossover ones from the 90s. I still know a bargain when I see one, though. My wife likes The Munsters and over the weekend I got her 7" Diamond Select Lily and Grandpa Munster figures on sale for $9.99 each, regularly $24.99 each. I still have that mongerous collector in me somewhere .

I been collecting since I was 15. My goal was to re collect all the joes my mom gave away to salvation army. When I reached 300 I realized this was way more than I had as a kid. I got bored and anxious over the years and sold them off. I've since re collected again, but my point is sometimes I feel like there's a void no matter how many figs I have or how many varieties. It's an urge like no other now that I'm 30 and I'll never know why. I just can't get enough. I have almost 300 different motu ko types. They are endless. It's like looking @ art. Being an artist I like to re arrange my figures almost like its a gallery. It's a strange addiction, I love it.

I like to collect a variety of different lines, so I usually dont get super bored. Ebay makes it impossible to run out of stuff to want. I try to focus on a few lines, but luckly im not a super completist. I dont need every figure of every line I collect. There is just way too much stuff out there to try and get it all.

<delete boring, rambling story>
long story short... enough is enough when finances, space, and/or family obligations tell me its enough. In a way I'm glad for these limitations, because without them my collection would likely be insanely huge. Trimming things down once in awhile has helped me keep things in perspective and better appreciate my collection.

hmm...it's strange, as I use the purchasing of toys as part of a therapy method, I don't really think about it and presumably shouldn't, but on a short-term basis enough is enough when the money I allocate each month for such things is gone.

Yeah, collecting is to a large part a sport of the pocketbook when it comes right down to it. Acquiring a new piece(s) makes me happy but that value on the thing or things is a value on which I project on to it or them.

While I can't get enough of toys I do lose enthusiasm for acquiring them from time to time. That's the main reason why I am on this site. Seeing new toys and seeing other people excited about toys makes me want to go out and get more toys, or it scratches my toy itch for when I don't want or am unable to get them.

Enough is enough for me when the very same animal species is represented by many companies. What am I supposed to do with a Schleich T-Rex, a Bullyland T-Rex, a Papo T-Rex, a CollectA T-Rex and a Dollarama T-Rex? One T-Rex is enough. In other words, enough is enough when it comes to repetition.
