Just wondering what everyone thinks of reproduction weapons for action figures? Vintage Star Wars & megos have the most out there but I have seen repros for other smaller lines as well. Does everyone stay clear of repros or does it not really matter to you?
I do try and stay away from repros, but I am sure there are a few mixed in somewhere with my vintage Star wars stuff. I like my stuff to be original, but I don't go to overboard about it. I guess what I don't know won't hurt me.

I think I feel the same way. If you happen to have a few repros here and there, in the whole scheme of things, it isn't hurting anything. Especially if you are just using them for display, and not trying to resell them under false pretenses. I prefer to have original's, but don't mind mixing in a few repros here and there, if they are nice looking.

Same thing here, So far I have no repro weapon but looking to complete my vinatgae Star Wars collection I won't mind getting some to have nice display pieces.

Same again here.
I don't think I have any repro's as yet, but I may well get some Major Matt Mason bits at some point, and I'd be happy to find a source of repro Godaikin fists etc.
My stuff is there to look good on the shelf for my benefit, I'd prefer origional but better a repro part than no part at all. Just don't try to stitch people up if you sell and they're ok by me.

I'm the same way. I think I might have one repo Star Wars weapon, I also prefer originals but hey I'm only displaying them and some repos look dead on for originals

I have got a small collection of repro weapons that I picked up somewhere, personally I do not mind them as space fillers until I get the real deal but I absolutly hate seeing them being sold as original. BTW check out this site for repro identification www.loresdelsith.net/rincon/armeria/index2.htm

if its a good enough repro it can count as the missing piece(like me and tickled picks boots)

Madmartigan thanks for the site. I found this site a while ago but forgot to bookmark it and have been trying to find it again. It's very good for telling repo weapons from originals.

ya I personally use the drop test to determine repro's but they just keep making them better and better all of the time.

BTW what other lines have repro weapons, I have seen Toht's gun for Raiders of the Lost Ark, but do other lines like heman and Thundercats have repro's as we;;?

Any Repro He-Man stuff has generally been done on a small scale for personal use or something sold/traded as a known repro as far as I know. I'm pretty much in the same boat as everyone here, original's the best, but a reproduction is better than not having.

What about Battlestar Galactica? Does anyone make these repos as this is the only way I think I will get Borays club.

I don't mind Repro weapons that much, but only for figures from wich the weapons i really can't find anywhere. For the others, i'm willing to pay a little more just to get my figures complete.

I am dead-set against reproductions. They are far too often passed off as the real deal and I don't include them in my collection. It's gotta be straight vintage 100% for me.

Found this site that carries repro parts for a range of 60's and 70's lines including Major Matt Mason and some Space 1999 Eagle 1 parts. www.toyreplicas.com/

Well Han Solo Carbonite blocks have been showing up on Ebay recently, apparently the way to tell these apart is that the repro is slightly smaller than the original, and has a bad smell to it? Dont know about the smell thing, it was posted on rebelscum. They do look really close to the original though.

I agree with what others have said. Repros are nice placeholders until you can get the real thing. No matter how good a repro is, nothing is the same or as good as the real deal.

I have some repro weapons on Vintage Star Wars, I don't mind if it has repro or not.
The repro Star Wars weapons looks great and very close as original look.
I don't use DM repros on my original Megos because Dr. Mego's home made repro parts have rough and poor shape, so I use repros China made that looks really nice and close as original look.

I greatly dislike reproductions and am not in favor of their existence in the toy collecting hobby due to the likelihood that they'll be passed off as authentic at some point down the road, either intentionally or unintentionally. I'd rather not own something than own a reproduction. I understand that's not a popular train of thought hobby-wide, however it's the way I personally feel and collect.

Reproductions are horrible! I only have ONE repro weapon ( the pop up lightsaber of my Last 17 R2) and it burns me, man. What's worse is it has become nearly impossible to distinguish wether or not a Vinyl Cape Jawa cape is actually real or not. It used to be easy, but there are so many fakes on Ebay I would never have considered buying my Jawa there for large sums of money and finding it to be a fake later!
