Anyone see this playset or own it? Are there any pictures of it on the web? It looks like a clone of Castle Castle, judging from the sketch of it on the back of the figure card.

That's so weird someone bringing this up. I just ran across a pic of it randomly yesterday. Let me see if I can find it again.

I just came across Remco sales catalog that that was used by Remco Reps at the toy shows and to sell the items to stores. When I figure out how to scan the pages without bending the book to hell, I'll post theamazing pics that are in it!

I'm just worried I'm gonna bend the catalog to hell if I try to skan the images - they run with no bleed all the way to the edges so there is no way I can get the entire image on there. I may look for another catalog and just take apart the binding and remove the pages. That would seem like a crying same though! Also, it's not like these things are all over the place. I see a lot of Matel catalogs, but this is the first remco one I've manages to snag!

Maybe see if you can take some nice large photos of it opened to each page? The trick would be to reduce the glare (try a few different light sources)

Sorry about all of the watermarks. I'd like the catalog to maintain it's value and rarity. It took me forever to find one and I basically paid out the nose for it. I'm actually fairly shocked that there are no other images like these on the net, but there aren't! - Trust me as I've searched and searched! This castle is a thing of beauty! I MUST own one! Also featured in this catalog are some great images of: -Lost world of the Warlord -Waroir Beasts -Conan -Pirates of the Galaxseas -Sarge Team -Mantech -etc.. Here ya Go! :

Wow, the watermarks make it pretty unviewable. Especially the inset pic. Putting an image online wont change how rare the catalog is. Every time you see the catalog shot of the unproduced Sectaurs figures it's because of the original images I generated back in '04 (I hid something in the images). All it seemed to do was make more people want the catalog.
But, whatever. Thanks for sharing anyway, it looks awesome.

Great pic man, thanks a bunch! Does the catalog mention or show pics of the propsed Remco Vikings line?
Anyway to make it slightly large so the insert pic is clearer? Also would love to read what that text says underneath.

I'll try to make it larger when I get a chance. Again, sorry for the watermarks. I see no pictures of a proposed viking line or any mention of something like that.

The Vikings series is noted on some of the later Remco cardbacks, but nothing visual has ever surfaced.

The castle is made of cardboard but has what looks like 2-3 long plastic ladders.
The Description reads:
Fortress of Doom #245 The ultimate in fantasy fortresses is now a reality with the Fortress of Doom, a 3 foot high, 4 level fantasy playset with elevating drawbridges, mobile transporters, working dungeons, movable gates, weapons, rack and much, much more. It's the world of fantasy figures vs. THE FORTRESS OF DOOM - who can overcome it. The Fantasy play is endless!
Also, in the Pirates of the Galaxseas pictures - both Ribs & Crossbones have capes on instead of the tattered clothing they actually came with.
There is advertising for a Treasure Island playset and an Adrift at Sea playset as well which I've never seen.
There are pictures of Warwheels vehicles as well with look a bit modern for the Lost World of The Warrior figures they show riding in them.
Also, Machiste is jet black in one of the pictures with a very different outfit.

I love the face paint detail on the Wolf Warrior & that red Stegos ascending the ladder is great. Lots of other subtle & not so subtle differences can be noted as well. I prefer the figures in the catalog pic over the actual production pieces. Awesome image!

Yeah! I noticed a lot of those too! The pic doesn't do the full size catalog images justice unfortunately! Remco was here in NYC right? I think I'm going to try and track down some former employees. I'm guessing there must be some prototype pieces around here somewhere!

Thanks for the pic lastchance2ownit, awesome to see it in color finally! Kind of off topic, but still along the same lines. Another drool worthy Remco Catalog page. You've probably seen it already, but it's worth another look. www.plaidstallions.com/remco/19832.html

That's really cool b/c I (as have a few others) always thought it bore a striking resemblance to the Marvel character. The obvious hooded head & bow aside, take a look at the sword in his hand. It looks a lot like the sword Remco produced for the Warrior Beasts series. Now I really want that silver Guana sword to go with my "Taskmaster" figure.

That's crazy. I wonder if they just didn't feel like paying Marvel off for the use of the name so they scratched it.
The 1st time I saw that figure, I had no idea it was a variant. I thought it was just a Skullman head-swap from a Marvel line Taskmaster.

I thought it was just a Skullman head-swap from a Marvel line Taskmaster. Nice find, I always thought that he looked like task master, now the mystery is solved. The Princes of Power line would have included two other Marvel characters - American Eagle & Kazar. It seems Remco was pulling from Marvel's character pool as well as DC's. If a lawsuit was in fact what impeded the production of the Taskmaster figure, it seems plausible that it would have involved Marvel & not Mattel, as was previously thought. I had always read that it was the hooded skeleton/obvious skeletor concept rip that lead to the low production numbers. Since none of the other proposed characters from the Marvel stable were ever produced, it seems like whatever relationship may have been brewing between Remco & Marvel fizzled. I can only imagine how cool it would have been though. A Remco Red Wolf would have kicked ass & totally fit in with the fantasy/american indian vibe.

Stop me if I'm wrong, but I believe the sword pictured in the Taskmaster comic was produced by Remco in black plastic and came with, for example, the Iguana Beast Pack for the Beast Warriors line. Was there a silver version also produced that came along with some of the packaged figures??
As for the watermarks.. I own a catalog and I own the pictures of my catalog. I don't own the rights to the catalog or the castle, but I don;t really wnat my pictures of the catalog popping up all of the internet.

I don't own the rights to the catalog or the castle, but I don;t really wnat my pictures of the catalog popping up all of the internet. You're not wrong. There are several weapons variations in the Remco series. The sword shown in the catalog pic is the silver version of the Guana sword. Guana is the character that black sword seemed to come packed with most frequently. I've seen the silver version packed with a couple other characters too. Though, all the Taskmasters I've seen came with the same weapon set as Skullman. A silver dagger & black bow. The sticker on the cards always said Skullman, as well. The catalog pic is the only time I've ever seen that figure with that particular sword, but after seeing it-it makes sense. It really does resemble the sword shown on the cover of Avengers 196. I really don't think that sword ever came packaged with the Taskmaster figure though. I think it's probably like most catalog pics, in that there are always variations between what is shown & what is actually made available at retail. I had been hunting for a silver Guana sword before, but now I really want it to bolster Taskmaster's arsenal. I need a few different Warlord/Warrior Beasts weapons, which I would gladly pay or trade well for. Swords, axes, & bows. Speaking of which....Daltron, if you want to part with your silver "Guana" sword, I'll give you a super fun happy good time discount on the figure you picked up. No pressure, just a little something to mull over.
