I stopped seriously collecting modern Star Wars around 11 years ago during the Saga series. Since then, cherry picking a figure here or there very very rarely....until The Force Awakens.
Decided that for the modern movies....until I literally have zero room in my Star Wars cabinet....I would get basic figures that I loved the sculpt/design of or the character when seeing the film.
So I went to Force Friday and was as disappointed as most w/ the crap selection, but thankfully helpful fans at the pegs that night were cool and passed back what I wanted (good job forcing us all into a small aisle Toys R Us)
Fast Forward to Wave 2 and all I want now is a Snowtrooper. Went to Toys R Us and they pushed their 3.75" to 8 pegs....about 1/4 of Force Friday and no peg was more than half full....and no Wave 2.
To the point of my post...I see things haven't changed much in 10 years. I can look forward to tons of wasted trips to TRU and elsewhere because of scalping employees and no infrastructure to pre-order or get notification on re-stocking.....online retailers have nothing.....but eBay is a wonderland of all the latest stuff at premium prices.
Thankfully the glut on eBay brought down the First Order Snowtrooper. Right now the cheapest is a guy w/ 2 for $13.95 shipped. In about 5 min. I'm buying one and throwing in the toy hunting towel.
I did this before and learned my lesson. I am saving my car miles, gas and time and spending 5 extra bucks. Probably saving money in the long run. LOL

Yeah its nice to be able to walk into a store and pick up the toys you want and that was always kind of part of the fun. It enables you to browse and get a closer look at other figures you may have not considered before. I find it a balancing act if your near the store or pass by it regularly its not a big deal to check in from time to time. If your not and have a busy schedule sometimes its better to grab it off eBay or just pass the figure altogether.
I'm in that situation right now with the Gung Ho figure from the GI Joe line. They decided to short pack that figure for whatever reason!

Yeah it definitely helps if a TRU was on the way to whatever you do normally. I envy that schedule because I do miss the hunt.

My wife found a Kylo Ren for me to eventually paint. Otherwise I have no interest in the figures, vehicles, etc from the new film. They are craptastically sculpted with craptastic articulation. My Star Wars collecting days are basically over.

My Star Wars collecting days are basically over. For the most part the same w/ me. Speaking of Craptastic....I was actually REALLY looking forward to getting the new X-Wing. Orange is my favorite color...so when I saw that black and orange design....that got me. Until I saw an unboxing video. Um...you have to love it when almost 40 year old plastic is better made and nicer than today. Never mind the lack of a light or single sound like Kenner....but the guns are super low quality. Very bendy weak plastic that are never straight. Yeah, just want I want to waste my money on. An X-Wing w/ spaghetti guns. Is rigid plastic that much more money? And a tiny circuit board and LED while we're at it? Meh

And a tiny circuit board and LED while we're at it? Meh And the X-Wing is probably, what, $30? At least even a few years back stuff was still being made half way decent. Hard to say if this is the economy as it is today or the Disney effect. Speaking just about myself, my life situation has changed over the last decade and my toy collecting overall is going to take a hit because of several different factors. I can't see a time where I never buy any new figures at all as, for example, I am interested in the 3.75" Kiss figures but this hobby is going to definitely be secondary for a while if not for as long as I'm young enough and healthy enough to live life basically as I do now. I haven't acquired a brand new figure since July outside of the aforementioned Kylo Ren my wife got me. Four months is pretty close to a record for me.
