I have sold several figures and vehicles on eBay and since I'm an opener I lose my shirt most of the time. One item that stands out though is a loose and complete Black Knight from Dragonriders Of The Styx I sold on eBay years ago. Somehow I got $50 for him. I also sold a lot of Mad magazine paperback books(on eBay)and got $60 for them, mainly because one was rare and a collector wanted just that one book out of the lot.

In the early 90's I found 5 transformers at a rummage sale for 25 cents each. I knew nothing about transformers (still don't) and put them in a lot on eBay with a starting bid of 1 cent. I ended up getting $125 for them. I was floored. I believe the buyer told me they were 4 decepticons and the bottom half of a lynx. Only other thing I think I recall is that they had some plastic chrome parts and he said the earlier versions had actual metal parts and were worth more. I've had a few good scores since then, but this one I had no idea what I had until they sold.

I found some old MUSCLE figures at the thrift store for $2... They were the japanese soft rubber ones but I was suprised that the whole lot went for like $175.. Also sold an exosquad tech wars mech for like $80 when I didnt think it would go that high.

This doesn’t involve action figures, but it is toy and hobby related, so here goes … About ten years ago, my sister and I started selling stuff on eBay, including many items we had inherited from our late uncle. Many things brought decent returns, lots were major disappointments. A few pieces absolutely blew us away! A pair of outboard motors for model boats fell into the latter category. My sister didn’t even want to go through the trouble of posting the two miniature outboards, thinking that were rather obscure and that no one would really want them. I pushed on, figuring that we had little to loose and anything we got would be better than just throwing them in the trash. The final auction prices were a mind blowing surprise - $511.00 for the gas powered Sea Fury and an even more incredible $1,924.99 for the electric Mercury 800! The most we ever got on eBay was for a set of die cast vehicles – the Husky Crime Busters gift set. Husky was the brand name for a line of small die cast cars and trucks sold exclusively through Woolworth’s. The name changed to Corgi Juniors when sales were expanded to other retailers. The Crime Busters set consisted of the Batmobile and Batboat from the Adam West TV series/movie, the James Bond Aston Martin DB6 and the Man from U.N.C.L.E. car. All four pieces were also sold individually, and the Batmobile and Batboat were also available as a twin pack. The boxed set of four was something really unique, as it combined three totally different licensed properties and showed all four vehicles together in one piece of art on the back of the package. I doubt that you would see anything like that today. I knew that this was a valuable piece and could get big bucks for it. At a toy show, I mentioned it to a die cast car “expert” and he said that while it was rare, it wasn’t as valuable as I thought. It turned out that we were both way off the mark. The set sold for $3,615.00!!!!!!!!

I bought a sealed vintage Lego Castle set 3 years or so ago on a flea market. It cost me like $25 and I thought it might sell for 50-100 bucks. When the auction ended, the final price was ~$950.

Funny thing, I bought a boardgame at a thrift store a few months back and inside was a stack of old scratch & sniff stickers from the 80s still on the sheets. Their was like 40 sheets. I almost gave them to my daughter to play with but decided to look up if their worth anything. Found a similar lot on Ebay that sold for $350, so I threw them up on auction this past Sunday. Already had a $300 offer and 2 bids so its currently sitting at $150. Interested to see where this goes, hope I don't regret not taking that $300 offer though.

I bought a box full of Dino riders at a roadside yard sale in Greenville for 5.00 and some guy from china bought it for 160.00 off eBay. He was willing to pay the extra shipping too. I never understood the excitement over that line.

Well good thing I didn't give them to my daughter or take the offer. Lot ended up going for over $800!! Buyer still needs to send payment but have been in contact with her and it all looks good so far. cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=331188277236

Wow, that's amazing! I wonder if there's just one or two that are rare or if $20/sheet is just the going price. Never would have thought they'd be worth much. I probably would have given them to my kid.

Sometimes it is just a matter of finding that right collector at the right time who will pay the right (and sometimes higher) price. Unfortunately, I have been on both sides of this equation!

I probably would have given them to my kid. I never really thought of it at the time but I should have asked the lady who purchased the set. I'm sure some were probably less common than others, but I think as a whole, you don't come across to many unused sticker sheets that are that old. Most were used or thrown away. The only way I remember collecting stickers was sticking them in a book.
