umm i have a question, everyone says the mego line was based on the tv show but i think the figures themselves were much closer to the animated show,if you think about it, there was no checkov, spock and kirk look much more like the filmation appearance than the actors, especially kirk, the klingon also is almost identical to the one in more tribbles more troulbles, the aliens although mostly made up by mego are much closer in style to the animated show than the live action series. in fact i had always assumed the mego figures were based on the animated show, it was only recently i was corrected. weird though thst the figures would be so close to the animated counterparts

You can tell they were based on the animated series, but Mego was probably trying to cash in on both.

Mego created the Trek line during the time of the Animated series so there is obvious resemblances to the Animated series in some of them. Mego had full artistic license back then, unlike today where most comapnies have to get final approval, so a few of the figures were "interesting" to say the least. Like the disco Mugato, Talos and Keeper, etc In a cost cutting move which toy companies did a lot back then and still do somewhat today, Mego re-used the Lizard from their WGSH line and just molded the head in brown, used a POTA ape body and then slapped a Klingon uniform complete with red weapons set to create the Gorn.
