I saw a picture of the Dread Commander and he is more or less a RED Dread Trooper. I assume you saw the prototype pictures from the 1988 Mattel catalog? This: EDIT: An interesting note about the prototypes in the Mattel catalog: the paint on the Sky Bike Launcher, the stickers on the Anti-Personnel Patroller, and Blastaar's gun color are all different than with the produced & sold versions. The neck on Stingray might be a bit different in the pictured prototype than on the produced Stingray figure too, but I'd need to check again. Actually, looking at it again, the XT-7 cockpit and the "feet" on the Interlocker both look of a different color than their mass-produced versions. Also the back of the XT-7's engines are "filled-in" in a way on the prototype different than the produced XT-7. Catalog pics: captainpower.tumblr.com/post/8318939731/futures-past-1988-mattel-catalog

Wow! Can't believe two carded samples survived this long. That's amazing that they did though, I like when gems like that still exist in the world somewhere. Very cool. I wonder if any of the other prototype stuff was released in small numbers as well.

I saw that too, holy crap! I still can't believe that carded sample showed up. It's awesome knowing that guy survived all these years. Congrats to the top bidder, that's probably the only one left.

The collector that contacted me said he acquired 1 Commander and 3 Troopers to sell. Also kept one of each for himself. Do you know if it was the same seller?

Once the buzz spreads, they just start magically "appearing" lol. At any rate, they are both really awesome looking figures. I can tell ghoul is just drooling over the Dread Commander, he's right up his alley.

That Dread Trooper must be one of the most expensive and elusive army builders ever And damn I really want a few and a Commander to lead them.

I really do get lucky with these. Somehow I find these easier than other stuff I guess. So here he is, the Dread Commander: He's in pretty rough shape. I'll keep digging to see if his mask or weapon is in the bag of mixed accessories. His joints are really loose, but still, it's cool to see these actually were produced!

You're right, he is rough. You should be embarrassed to have him in your collection. As a favor for you as a friend, I'll let you send him to me so you won't have to live with his shame.
