I haven't collected SW for a while, so I haven't been paying attention to the prices on ebay. I did notice that the prices went up for the previous two films, so I don't doubt that they will for this one too.

The prices on the original vintage line will always go up at least a little each year. With more items that are out of circulation the more it will go. The newer stuff is produced in great quantities andonly time will tell. Obviously limited editions and "scarce" figures will always have a good value. This of course goes for other toy lines also.

I think most loose vintage figure prices have dropped since the 90s. MOC and some of the rarer figures are always slowly creeping up. Maybe the price of loose figures dropping is because of all the repro weapons out there?

starwars toys are still hot in some circles. but its true they have slowed to crawl since the mid 90's due to repro's and well ebay. things arent considered as rare as they once were. but i still believe these toys will always be important and always be sought after. i however need to cut a few collections down. starwars may feel some burn but not too much. my gijoe collection will feel more burn then anyother collection i own. too many damn repaints!!!!!!!!

Yeah, vintage Star Wars used to be everywhere in the mid 1990s - toy/antique stores, flea markets, toy shows. I hardly ever see them around anymore. Then again the last toy show in Winnipeg was last November and I missed it.

I do think that when Lucasfilm puts another Star Wars related movie/cartoon/series out people will buy a ton of figures then store them to resell later. The original figure prices always fluctuate, they go up when a NEW Star Wars movie, dvd, cartoon, series is released but it dies down after a few months. I think the serious collector knows when they are being screwed over with pricing and know the true value of items. Plus they are churning out milions of figures for Star Wars now all over the world. I think in the future the newer figures will not be as valuable to collectors as the original line up. In 31 years the new figures might not be in the same price range as the originals are now due to the sheer volume of them.

I agree that the likelihood of modern SW figures being as valuable as the vintage ones in 30 years is dubious because of the constant re-releases of figures. If a figure becomes hard to find and gathers some secondary market value,it winds up popping up again in some kind of Saga Legends-type of assortment. The loose value of most of the figures will definitely stay really low because of those re-releases. There haven't been too many figures that fans haven't been able to get a second(or more)crack at if it was missed the first time. Seeing the Utapau Shadow Trooper, for one example,re-released ticked me off when I think back to all the effort I put in driving to Target stores to find some. There isn't a Target store around me that isn't at least a 2 hour round trip drive so seeing it again at Wal-Mart and Toys R Us didn't make me that excited about collecting SW figures after that kind of crap .

I know this is an old thread, but has anyone sles noticed a spike in the prices of vintage SW stuff? What is that about. I sold a lot of ROTJ stuff a few months ago and got 30 bucks. Today similar lots are going for 80.
What gives? Completeing my last 17 collection is getting impossible.
