I was wondering what the hottest or best selling girl toys are from the 1980s. My guess is on My Little Pony or Care Bear. Any ideas?

I just remembered a big one: Breyer Horses. Most of the little girls I knew had several of these and some had literally hundreds!

How can you tell a Breyer Horse from all the other thousands of toy horses?

How can you tell a Breyer Horse from all the other thousands of toy horses? Usually they have a stamp on them somewhere and you can actually spot the higher quality of a Breyer. I had a knockoff one growing up and you could definitely tell the difference .

Are Breyer horses made of solid plastic? I know I've seen plenty of hollow horses.

Breyer Horses were focused on girls' public? I'm not sure I fully understand the question as written but are you asking whether or not Breyers were considered "girl's toys"? If so, the answer is a definitive "YES". I had a couple but this is pretty unusual for a boy tbh, mainly because my parents loved horses. As far as Breyers being solid plastic, I never opened one up to find out but I'm guessing by their weight that they are hollow on the middle.

How bout Jem? Remember that cartoon, what was it, Jem and the Rockers or something like that? For one year it was definitely Cabbage Patch Kids. People were getting mauled at Toys R Us trying to get to them when the doors opened.

Hmm, I don't remember any of the girls I knew having these but then again they would have blended pretty well with the barbies I imagine so they probably did, I just didn't know . I think it was Gem and the Holograms was the name of their band? This could be wrong too lol.

Care Bears? She Ra? Sindy by Pedigree in the UK was Barbie's biggest rival - you were either a Sindy fan or a Barbie fan amongst girls. Many girls back in the 80s loved Sindy over here as she was more 'realistic', girl next door type with less pink furniture - it was much more realistic too - better quality. My sister liked Sindy. Sylvanian Families (Callico Critters to you) were also and still are popular.

I remember Syvanian Families over here and I remember really wanting them but holding back because they were considered "girly". I had a couple I think though, they were little flocked anthropomorphic animals right? Never heard of the Sindy dolls though. As a matter of fact I have never even heard of the name "Sindy" lol.

speaking of Jem, has anyone seen the 2012 sdcc exclusive Jem figure? looks good. i really want one. but the prices on ebay are pretty retarded right now. wait for the sdcc buzz to die down. currently going for over $200, and that's with bids! i find that i am buying a lot of girls stuff lately. C.U.T.I.E., Jem, My Little Pony, She-Ra, Monster High.....i may just be unconsciously getting bored with action figures, and this is my way of taking a break without leaving toys all together.

Ah, yes, Jem. I actually dig that toon. Fer the record, her computer pal was called Synergy and her boyfriend, Rio had purple hair (so jealous of him). Yup, they probably shoulda' gone for a waist-clip on that new figure.
1985 Mattel "My Child" dolls, my girlfriend tells me, were a kinda' fancier version of Cabbage Patch. She also mentioned Pound Puppies.

Ha, I only recently discovered Glamor Girls (picked one up in a lot). It was surprisingly easy to research.

And Dazzle, the min-Barbie. Did anybody mention Rainbow Brite yet? Also for smaller lines there were See Wees. I actually had a couple of those myself. They kept ketting eaten by my Chemtoy Jaws in the bathtub.

Personally, I prefer She-Ra to Jem; so many more different characters and critters! Oh! And what about "Fur-Ever Friends"? You know, those plush cats with extra-long tails kids could have used as a scarf?
