I was in the drug store today buying q-tips and since I have been visiting these forums I have been browsing the toy sections of any store I go to. The G.I. Joe logo caught my eye and I stopped and looked at a couple of figures. What struck me was how close they were to the newer corps figures! From what I could see they were basically constructed of the same stuff, same amount of articulation and pretty near the same realism of the sculpts. While the paint jobs of the corps figures were a little off in places, otherwise the only difference I could see was that the corps figures were about 1/10th the price. Mind you there were not corps figures in this particular store so I could not make a side by side comparison but overall they seemed really similar. I am not into modern figures but I have seen corps figures in the last few years and these new joes seem to have mimicked them. Is this a classic role reversal?

i dunno, seems to me Lanard is just following the current trend toward more realistic sculpting & details. the recent Corps Elite figures were sculpted similar to the 2002 T-crotch GI Joes, as well as the plastic-rivet construction of the Joe vs Cobra figures, but since the new styling of the 25th Ann'y line and ROC/POC, Hasbro has definitely gone in a different direction design-wise. Corps nowadays remind me more of Chap Mei figures than anything else. That said, i dont like ANY of the new figures. Bring back classic O-ring construction!!!!! ;D

Yes O-ring all the way...the line could go on for years just with cool repaints!
That being said I love the new Corps. They are the best value for a action figure out there. they have super cool characters...i wish the comic had gotten off the ground (never made it to press?)

CORPs are okay in my book, but I really wish they'd have kept the O-ring too. Used to have the older style and many modern ones but ended up selling 'em off...too much stuff! It's surprising that since they are so inexpensive, we don't get any really cool new characters that often...they need more bad guys!
I'd say they are closer in style to the early 200X Joes too...the new Joe stuff is more straight-up realistic, while the CORPs remain semi-realistic...kinda a bit "stylized"...but not much. As much as I hate to admit it, CORPs figures are actually more fun to play with than the newer Joes!
