Always something I've wondered about some people on ebay. Why do people bid crazy for new figures that are going to be all over Wal-Mart,Target,etc in a few weeks after they first appear on ebay? I mean,it just seems kinda ridiculous to bid an item up to maybe $50 or more that you will be able to get if you would just have a little patience, for under $10 in a few weeks.

Too many people have the Gotta-have-it-Now or Gotta-Have-it-First mentality.
Patience is a lost art.

Well, I would definitely say that for birthdays especially wth children, and some adults too, lol. Having their way is just a way of life. They're being spoiled by someone who wants to please them no matter what. No matter what: being to spend $50 bucks on a 10 dollar action figure just to have it a few days in advance. So that it can be given as a present just in time for little Timmy's 13th Birthday. Mommy I want it Nooowww!!

Probably because they don't want to wait to get something and just get it delivered to the mailbox. Though the next time they are at a store they will complain "I paid $50 for this figure and here it's only $9.99 When i was a kid it would sometimes take me 2-3 weeks to save for certain toys. Try waiting 14-21 days of saving or being told "For your birthday son" in January when my birthday is November. No patience = Idiocy with money.

Also I might add that some people get the bit by the bidding bug. Its like being in a race and being determined not to lose. These people even try to outbid the other guy when they don't even have enough money to pay.

What you seem to be kinda saying is some people have more money than brains,or at least more money than patience. BTW,I like your classic Herb Trimpe art-Hulk avatar.

This response brings back to mind one figure that sticks out in my head, the old Star Wars Power Of The Jedi General Leia Organa figure. When that wave first hit,I saw one go for $60 on ebay. A year or so later,I saw one collecting dust on a KB Toys peg for $2.99.

Let the speculators spend their money first, I'll take the $2.99 discount figure any day of the week. -Chad

Unfortunately, it's most of the time difficult to guess which figure(s) out of a set you will have the hardest time tracking down.

In this new instant gratification world, patience has lost all meaning. nobody has the"time" to wait even 3 seconds, think loading a web page for instance. how long will YOU wait before going to a different site. With instant access at your fingertips now, it's also convenience. Before the Internet we actually had to go to the store, if any of you remember those days, and see if our figure was there or already sold out. Or to find out what was newly released. Now, collectors & non-collectors are afraid that everything is rare and the companies only make limited runs and they will throw any amount of money just to get so-called "rare" figures. I think about it this way, there were millions made and sold of all figures and eventually when all the psychos get the first 50,000 for way over retail, then I'll get mine, when it's cheap and I'm willing to be patient to get it.
All good things come to those who wait.
