Okay this site is dredging up all sorts of memories, most good, some bad. One of my most beloved toys growing up, probably one of my first toys actually, was Crusher. He looked awesome all by himself as he was a very cool looking (greenish?) monster who seemed very big to me at the time. He had a button on his belt and somehow you could squeeze all the air out of him (he must have been vinyl) and crunch him into a ball and push the button and he would stay that way. When you released the button he would inflate very awesomely back to his original badass self. Feel free to correct my foggy memory anyone lol. Well needless to say this was a prized toy to me and sort of my "buddy" for a while. I remember my uncle came over one day while I had the toy and he thought it was pretty cool. He though himself pretty savvy to toys and said something like "oh yea I've seen this guy, he comes apart at the waist" while he was examining him. I was horrified and told him "no, that's another toy but not crusher" and pleaded with him not to twist his waist. I remember there was a toy that looked something like crusher that came apart at the waist but I knew a bit more about toys than my uncle and it was heartbreaking to be in that situation. Of course, my uncle proceeded to twist Crusher's waist until an audible "SNAP" was heard and the toy was ruined. He apologized (I think) but that was the last of Crusher.

Your story reminds me of when i was a kid and my buddy pleaded with me to borrow him my Secret Wars and Super Powers figures. I reluctantly gave in and after a few weeks went by his house to pick them up. All the black detailing on the Secret Wars figures was pretty much worn off and he broke Kalibaks leg action. He was the same friend who broke off my Brainiacs arm a different time at my house just after that. I was pissed!

Loled! Man, he was cool. Thanks for that. How tall is he anyway? I remember him being huge. I wonder who the genius is who thought up this guy.

I remember being about 5 years old playing at the a nearby park while my dad played rugby. I was playing on the slide with my Action Force Red Lazer figure when an older kid (a lot older- I think about 13 or 14) asked to have a look at it. I passed it to him and I don't remember seeing him do anything with it, but, when he passed it back a few seconds later I looked at him and his face was all black and bubbly. I had no idea what it was so I took it to my mum who was watching my dad play rugby. She told me it had been burnt and said lets go and tell your dad. I pointed the lad out to my dad and when my dad questioned him he denied it and my dad slapped him across the head!! He sh** his pants and apologized.

One year my Mom threw away ALL of my Christmas presents. One Christmas my Mom's boyfriend at the time bought me a bunch of Kenner Super Powers toys, all of the main heroes including the Hall of Justice playset. Unbeknownst to me, my Mom had a falling out with this guy. Over Christmas vacation I was playing with all my new toys and leaving them all over the floor so I could resume play time each morning. Apparently she couldn't bare the sight of these toys and she gathered them all up and brought them to the dumpster and threw them all away, warning my two older brothers not to dare taking them out for me.
When I was 13 I moved to California to live with my Dad. I had to leave some toys with her - Big mistake. She sold all of my MOTU (I had 95% of the line) and all of my Star Wars figures.

Yea this sort of stuff really stinks. You leave your toys somewhere (at home) because you think they will be safer than where you are going (school) and you come back to find out they've been tossed. Bleh.

My own mumsy dearest would only let us get new toys outside of Christmas or birthday if we got rid of old ones. I can't begin to make a list of all the cool toys I thought (at the time) I was tired of and later heartily regretted giving up. Eh, cest la vie!

Most of my childhood toys were kept by my parents and given to my nieces and nephews to play with. When I moved out, I took some with me and would come back to get more as time went on. I had the GI Joe base, Castle Grayskull, MASK Base and the Death Star. I kept my stuff in immaculate condition. My nephews thought wrecking and breaking things was fun, all destroyed for 10 seconds of amusement. Many of my wrestling figures and Hot Wheels, some of which were very rare from the 1960s were sold at a garage sale. One of the Hot Wheels was worth a couple hundred bucks...sold for a quarter. Worst of all, my dad had a rare coin collection, they used to steal from it to go buy pop. Yes, $125 in rare quarters were used to buy a can of Coke. Every year for Christmas, I send them a card saying in 75 years, they will have paid off their debt to me and their grandparents.

I remember one year in the late '80s my parent wanting to have a yardsale. I was starting to outgrow my toys by then because I had gotten into Nintendo. I pretty much allowed all my toys to be sold very cheaply: almost all of the Masters Of the Universe, over 30 G1 Transformers, Blackstar, Superpowers, Secret Wars, etc.. I realised not very long after that that was a really big mistake. To this day I care nothing about the actual value of vintage toys, I only want them because their cool or bring back great memories. Their value is priceless in nostalgia.

True, sometimes I sell off a few bits now and again and make some good cash but on the whole I keep things or buy things for their coolness or memories...

Sure, I broke things as a kid too but overall I was like you, kept stuff immaculate. Hope they pay their debt off soon lol.
