We all have them, a deal that you get something really rare/valuable for peanuts.
I just picked Dagger Assault completing my collection for £10, which I'm happy with and I have something else that I will show you guys when it gets here, which I couldn`t believe it when I got it.
Just wondering what other experiences you guys have?

The great thing about collecting action figures is that most of the time, they are still viewed as second hand toys and often have a value to match. The vintage Star Wars figures are hot property now but around 1990 nobody collected it, you could buy garbage bags full of it for cheap. You can still browse flea markets and literally find treasure after treasure for as little as ten cents per figure.

My guess is there will be alot of deals like that over the next year or so, while the worlds economies are in the crudter, people will feel they have to sell I agree and have really noticed the drop-off on Ebay bidding this year on many toys. There have been quite a few items I have won that I expected a large bidding war on with a few others, but ended up that either I was the only bidder or there were only one or two other lower bids.

I think certain areas have to some degree, especially some of the lesser known figure lines. Have seen allot of auctions ending for noticeably less than they did the same time last year. Have even noticed some members of this site have decreased their buying on Ebay. Could simply be a bit of a lull, maybe the economy or possibly people have just completed their sets for certain figure lines.
Even browsing Ebay there are allot less of certain figure lines for auction then there were this time last year, ie, you don't see even half as many lots of Crystar, Blackstar, etc. figures on Ebay as you did a year ago. Now it seems there are more items listed on Ebay stores as BIN's than their ever was. Things are definatly changing.

Indeed, even broken it's hard to throw out toys! In the case of such toys that are not "collection worthy" I usually lend them to my local charity center, as they may still by used kids! As for my best buy it was a incomplete box of Wizard of Morcar, a Heroquest supplement. It is pretty hard to come by, and I got it for one buck, part of this haul: Such finds make it worthy for all the uncesseful ones!

I've never seen him!?! Must be rarer than Nefertina. Nice job! I think he is, I was so chuffed to get it. I was arguing with the seller to try and pay him more money the launguage barrier nearly killed the deal. Question now is to open or not to open?

I get to win this one.
Heroscape Thaelenk Tundra, got a the flea market for $2, sold for $40. Old 1950s 3 3/4" Seamstress figure, got at salvation army for 5 CENTS, sold for $40. MIP Kalibak Super Heroes, in a poorly-named lot with other figures for about $10. Several Fisher Price Adventure People vehicles for under $2-$3 apiece at various garage sales.
I'm the freakin' king of this stuff, it seems. So much that I'm trying to get rid of it - got a little too much right now.

Quite a few years ago now but I found a small papershop in Norfolk, UK which was having a massive clearance of old stock and there was a box full of MOC mego Star Trek: TMP 3 3/4" figures - I brought quite a few but regret not buying the whole box! Also, probably 10-15 years ago I regret not buying the entire plasic bin diplay outside a seaside shop which was selling lots of Star Wars (original Kenner / Palitoy) figures MOC for 50p each. I forgot to mention a few other bargains in my last post: The other day I picked up Luke Skywalker in Stormtrooper costume action figure (from the last 17) in mint condition (loose) with helmet for £2 and 3 other last 17 Star Wars figures for £1 each. I also found a loose mego Megarite (Star Trek: TMP) 3 3/4" action figure complete with original cape for £4 at a fair. Now searching for a cheap mego Black Hole Humanoid figure! Flipper

Woke up this morning (dun nun ner ner nun nuh!) anyway, woke up this morning and when i went into the garage for my morning cigarette i looked across the street and the people that had moved in last week were having a yard sale. From my vantage point i could make out the usual, piles of folded clothes, boxes of books, dart board, knick knacks, framed pictures then there was a cabinet just obscuring another table but i could make out the top of two items. I went back in and got dressed (out of my jammies, no i wasn't smoking in my garage in the nude but that would have been funny) and went over with the money i made last night as a waiter at the bowling alley. As i crossed the street i made out more of the two items, one was grey and green while the other was black, purple and grey. I thought "Do my eyes decieve me?" I got closer, excitement started to build as recognition flashed across my memories and i recognised them for what they were. I made my way across their front yard, idly looking at the other items to hide my excitement (in other words to not show excitement and the seller put the price up) On the table before me lay other items connected to the same original items. I watched in horror as another buyer paid for a handful of figures and walked away with them at $1 each. In his hands i spotted Fisto (minus armour) STINKOR for $1!!!!! Orko, but still on the table was Man at Arms (with his chest armour, one wrist plate and one shin plate) Ram Man, Syclone, Roboto (i think his name is) and Man -e-Faces. There was also an array of vehicles i remembered from my youth. But at the back was not only a Castle Greyskull but also a Snake Mountain. I look behind them and see the Greyskull is missing a LOT of pieces, in fact it was basically the outer shell with the still attatched. But Snake Mountain had the microphone still attatched, the gate at the top attatched, the trap door mechanism worked but was slightly loose, the face on the front had the mouth piece still there but the bonus ball was the trap door net was still on it too. He wanted a lot more for them both which i was not willing to match but he did agree to $15 for Snake Mountain and he threw in a figure of my choice so i checked out the figures (all of them had very loose legs but i went with Man - E - Faces as he was one of the first. I did want Man At Arms but after checking the rubber on his legs it was badly frayed and ready to break. I came home with Snake Mountain and Man E Faces and a HUGE grin. My wife asked where i got it and i said Yard Sale across the street. We went back over and my wife got a shirt and i bought Syclone and Roboto (i think thats his name) Syclone had his shield and Roboto had his claw hand attatched for $1 each. My son who is now 5 started playing with Snake Mountain and managed to break a clip off the side as well as one little clip off the edge where it snaps together but they were really weak in the first place though. So at the end of the day i got Snake Mountain and 3 original MOTU figures for $17. Not a bad haul.

My son loves the Snake Mountain and plays with his Army of darkness Mez-Its on it as well as some Knights too. He loves the trap door feature as well as the capture net and makes characters fall through it due to Ash's heroics. Yes my 5 year old loves Ash.

Yes he is. He likes Army of Darkness, Pick of Destiny, Star Wars, Transformers, Scooby Doo, Ben 10 Alien Force, Roswell Conspiracies, Evolution, Ghostbusters, Fairy Tale Police Department, Wallace and Gromit, War of the Worlds. He really has an imagination as he plays with his Star Wars Galactic Heroes against Transformers but for some reason uses a Spongebob figure as a flying vehicle for Anakin Skywalker. Just goes to show he has an imagination like his dad. He does have a Weebles treehouse along with a car garage and a castle that he uses when he is playing so he sets up little battles and makes different voices for the characters. Last week i woke up to hear "Artoo where are you?" so i got up and my son jack is walking around the house calling out to R2 D2 cos he couldn't find him. I eventually found him down the side of the tv and gave it to Jack and he hugged him to his face and said "I thought i'd never see you again" then placed him beside Threepio on his snacking table with a big smile on his face. It is really enjoyable getting to play alongside my son with figures and playsets and telling a story together, really makes my day so much better.

My son is 18 months, and I can't wait to break out the action figures. He is already showing interest in them, but he is awful quick to start using them as balls and throwing them. He does have a few of the Star Wars Galactic Heroes.

Ludevig, awesome about your son, you're lucky man.
I'm sorry I have not posted for 12 days, but we were in the process of renewing our internet. But anywho. the last couple off weeks I had 2 good scores. The game of Jaws for 5 bucks. It is missing the fish playing piece & the box looks like someone attacked it with a ice pick. but the shark was complete and is in great shape. second 4 vintage planet of the apes figures for 20 bucks. They are: 1. Astronaut - missing helmet 2. dr. zaius - complete 3. Cornelius - missing one shoe 4. Soldier ape - Missing gloves, gun (but I already have a gun) these things look brand spanking new. no rips in the clothes. The soldier ape has a spot of discoloration on the back of his shirt, but other wise flawless. the guy had 5 figures on the table. these 4 and a dollar store figure from the 90's. The guy wanted 40 bucks originaly for all, then said he would sell them for 30 bucks. I didn't have 30 on me, but twenty. I walked around to make sure there was nothing else a then went back to the table and said I wanted just the 4 apes and would he do it for 20. he agreed, I pooed my pants, took my apes and left. shortly thereafter the blood raced to my head in excitement, then I passed out. The end.

I wish we had yard sales here in the UK - the nearest we have are car boot sales where cars pile onto a field with their boots open selling lots of old junk. I went to one recently and a guy was selling his old Star Wars figures at staggering prices - it seems everyone thinks old toys are worth alot of money now! Flipper

I know some people that find AMAZING things at car boots. I hear ya' on the SW figs. I've been picking them up off evilBay for less than $5 complete and shipped. But you go to a flea market, and some fool has a Han Solo with no paint left and a chewed leg, and thinks it's worth $25.

I scored some great deals this past weekend at a comic show I was set up at. For $30 total I got: - complete set of Tron figure MINT with no paint loss and accessories - Orange Tron Light Cycle with ripcord - MASK Hurricane mint, complete with box and pamphlets.
A buddy of mine got a full carload of boxed vintage vehicles and playsets for next to nothing...

I scored a nearly complete Captain Power Power Base playset for $30 last week. The absurd rarity of the base combined with how much I now adore it make this deal one for my history books, as far as I'm concerned.
Add to that the time I acquired a Diaclone Great Robot Base in a lot for $500 and then sold the other items for $300. $200 for the rarest and most impressive Takara robot of all time, usually selling for around $800 on his own.
I also always remember the time I acquired a Bionic 6 Secret Laboratory on this board with great affection. It was my favorite toy line from childhood, and I was able to acquire it's priceless playset which, until that time, I didn't even believe actually existed. Well worth the $200+ I paid for it.
