I'm a huge batman fan, but superman i have never quite liked as a character, though I do enjoy the movies and TV shows, I won't collect anything of him. If i come across a super powers superman, I would most likely get arid of him, this applies to MEGO as well, I don't care how much he's worth. But, in the same respect, I want to complete my super powers & MEGO collection. Has anyone else had this dilemma with any of their collections? any characters you hate, but they happen to fall in your favorite toy line?

I try to go that with the new lines but the narotic collector me makes me end up getting them all for the most part.

I try to be selective with a lot of current lines:
Marvel Legends: I hate the Xmen, especially Wolverine.
25th Joes: pass on more than I buy, I need to feel a 'wow' when I see the figure, like beachhead, gold Destro; pass on Zartan, Dreadnoks, multiple Snake-eyes, a lot more
The best example is Bandai's Soul of Chogikin series: I collect only the 'old school' Go Nagai designs (think Shogun Warriors and you're half way there), but I'm so obsessed with them, I'll track down the obscenely hard to find 'Lucky Draw' variants and different countries' releases (The HK ones usually include 'bonus items'). But, I couldn't care less about the 7 or so Evangelion mechs, or the huge and really cool God Mars they just released.
Vintage stuff is a little different. LJN's AD&D series has a few clunkers in it, but they're part of the set, so they're on the shelf with the rest.
For me, I realized a long time ago that I don't have the money/space/desire to collect and complete every toy line that catches my eye; there's a lot of really cool stuff I'll never own, but I won't lose any sleep over it because I have lots of cool stuff and there's always more toys to discover. This site really helps me with that; guys like Clambo, Huskypole, and TKOMessiah have collections I can vicariously enjoy without the heartache of tracking down a collection of Unifighters or Defenders of the Planets

I am very selective. I collect many lines both new and old but don't feel a collection is incomplete if it's missing a few characters I really can't stand. I have to like it before I buy it. If I think the character is dumb looking such as Vintage Kenner Star Wars nine-numb or Rancor keeper for example, I won't buy it.

I only bring figures I like into my collection. I don't get completionism. I do refuse to bring anything Hordak into my collection.

If it is cheap enough I will add a figure that I dont really like to my collection, example would be the Riker as a Malcorian action figure for Playmates Star Trek, I did not really like the episode that the character was in or the figure but it was only 2.00 so I picked him up

As people have seen from my collection pics I mainly collect what I like, only a few series are even completed within that mass of stuff. I have (like madmartigan) picked up some cheapies for completion or just because they are cheap in general.
Like Cap, I skip over some of the 25th figures. Although if they were cheaper I would like to have them all, only for completion. Until they go down in price however I will pick and choose.

I am hit and miss with my collections. Example with the Super Powers and Justice league Unlimited lines I want EVERYTHING and multiples if possible LOOSE or carded it does not matter. For my Marvel Legends Line..not so much, there I stick with anyone who has been an Avenger, Defender or Invader and the related villans. For the most part I like the Marvel Legends stuff LOOSE. I am just startign my Dc Universe Collection so we will see how that shakes out. GOOD HUNTING!

I recently ran into this problem again. I was at my local Roses and found the first wave of DC Direct Identity Crisis figures for 5 bucks a pop. Great figure of Hawkman etc... but to complete that wave you have to buy the villian Dr. Light. Normally I love me some villians, but this character in the story arch the figures are made from is a vile weasel of a rapist. Why on earth would I want my very own rapist figure? So I will not buy him. Simple as that.

Awesome stories. I am not a completist either. I, like everyone else, collect what I like and If I happen to come across something that's not going into my collection then eventually I sell or trade it for something I need or want. I have gotten 3 superpowers superman in the last month or so. They all cost 50 cents or less. Once I complete them I will sell/trade them for something I want. normally, If I don't like it I won't buy it. P.S. most figures made from comic books are the sucky characters, I have no idea why companies make them. Think Spawn figures or X-men figures sugar man, Strong Guy.

I tend to stick to the stuff from the shows. That being said some lines I just can`t help myself and if its cheap I will get it. Stuff like Gen 1 Tranformers I won`t actively buy anything past Headmasters. Then there is Ghostbusters and all I ever saw in the cartoon was the guys, slimer, stay puff and the chick, but I have it all???

I am probably close to a completist when I can be. There are lines I would like to be a completist towards, but can't afford to be. I figure if there are enough characters in a line I wouldn't really want to buy, then maybe I shouldn't collect the line at all. I will try to be a completist, at least with the figures of a line, until the sheer volume of figures released gets down right ridiculous. Star Wars is an excellent example of this. Unfortunately, I see the new G.I. Joe going down the same path Star Wars did. After not even quite two full years of Joe collecting, I already have around 80 figures. We're seeing repainted vehicles already such as the A.W.E. Striker. We're already seeing repainted, kit bashed figures such as the new tan A.W.E. Striker's driver, the one I had just referred to. The driver has Gung Ho's head and parts from other figures for his body.

When it comes to WWF Hasbro's there are loads of them i don't want but there is a few i really want. Same with the Demolition Man, Last Action hero, Terminator 2 and Super Mario Bros movie figures or the New Adventures of He-Man lines. I only want certain ones and am not after the entire lines. The only line i have completed (apart from repaints and prototypes) is the WCW Galoob line. I try to collect FIGURES i like rather than completing a line. Some lines are really fun to collect due to their size but other lines like Marvel, Star Wars, Transformers etc have SOOOOOOOOO many in their lines it is hard to complete a line. Another aspect i don't like is when they release double packs and there is a figure you really want in it but the other you could care less about but you have to get it to get the one you want.

It always struck me as strange the amount of time and effort a toy company put into making crap that was never in the show and completely bypassed other stuff that was in it.

I generally only buy figures I like from a specific toyline.
Case in point, when the new Power Rangers toylines come out, I usually snag the females and that's it (with a few exceptions).
I can see how some people would be completists, but it doesn't make sense to me to waste money on something you don't want just to have a complete set.

There's really one thing that I'm after to complete - Super Powers, where I'm even after the marketing stuff (books, lunchboxes, etc). That's it, and I already have the bulkiest stuff.
I'm probably going to try and get everything GIJoe til about 1986, and I'm scaling back my Joes to just stuff I like right now and those years instead of trying to get everything. There's plenty out there I think I would like to have, but I needs to keep the wife happy, which means a limited collection.
