I recently sent a guy at Toyfare some pics of my Blackstar collection that he needed to show in Toyfare magazine. He said he would give a photo credit and even offered to send me out a few issues of the magazine.
Had a look at the recent issue (#165 I believe - the Nov issue), and they did use some of my Blackstar toy pics (though they are pretty small in the magazine), but didn't give me any credit for the photos. Never even got a copy of the magazine in the mail (why even offer if your not going to send it?.
Found this to be pretty lame. I even sent them Crystar pics before this for the next issue and didn't even hear back from the guy by email if he got them or not. Safe to say, its probably the last time I will send any pics to Toyfare to use.

That really stinks. I wonder if the treatment is different from person to person? I dealt w/ Zach Oats via e-mail when I sent in the Stellara pic.
One issue had a Sectaurs article and mentioned the never-produced Series 2. So I had to send them the pics showing they did exist in some fashion. I e-mailed Zach from the fan mail section and he asked if he could use the pic. I said yeah and in the next issue, there she was w/ a funny joke bubble and my e-mail printed. He even asked how he wanted my name printed.

Well maybe I'm a bit of a sucker, but got an email a few weeks back from a different guy at Toyfare. Talked to him a bit and decided to send some pics of my Captain Power and Air Raiders collection. I really don't mind doing it, but all I ask for in return is a link to this site for digging out all the stuff and taking some pics (it does take time). I guess we'll see if he comes through, anyone who picks up the issue(s), LMK.

Chad, let's just say that ToyFare was less than helpful when I was trying to promote Megocon2004. Tomarts, Lee's and ToyShop jumped at the chance to cover the event. ToyFare was looking for payola. I'll read it in the book store but I'm done supporting the mag.

I have given up with Toyfare, at least they stopped the stupid "funny news" section, but for me its really bad on content. Gave up on Lee`s too, they are both mags I can read in Borders in 10 minutes and forget. The best mag for me is and always has been Tomarts.

Speaking of Lee's a few months ago I emailed them with an ad to put in their magazine, and man was it ever difficult. Never heard back from them so I phoned them, and got an answering machine and left a message. Did this a few times asking them to call back, then finally one day after work, I got a message back from them. Called back again and only got the machine. Finally after another call or so, I finally reached the lady and was able to talk to her in person. She seemed very flustered and couldn't locate the ad I sent them, and said she would call me back (which she never did). After a week or so I called a final time, left a message with my CC number and ad details and never heard back from them since. Who knows what they do down their, but are they ever disorganized or just don't care.

Hmm....it doesn't sound like those two mags are a good idea to deal with as far as contributing something to them. I did get in print a couple of times, once in Lee's mail page and once in Toy Shop before it tried the regular magazine format. I take it Toy Shop went under even after they went to the other format as I haven't spotted an issue of it in quite some time now.
