I thought we could get a thread going for Golden Girl and the Guardians of the Gemstones and I was wondering if anyone knows of a website about these figures? My sister had them along with She-Ra so we used to play with them and my MOTU and they are really cool figures (or is it perhaps figurettes ) I happen to have some of my sisters figures and have found a few on auctions at a good price. Sadly I lost two complete figures and the horse Shadow because I forgot to check back when that auction was ending. There's a really cool playset Palace of Gems and the horses have a light-up eyes feature and there's alot of nice "girlie" accessories for every toy. Maybe someone has a collection they wanna share here?

the best website is: www.thelaironstormisle.com/i have the entire collection minus the Palace of Gems and a few bits and pieces here and there(a cape, a saddle blanket, etc)...more or less packed away, but feel free to ask any questions or whatever, i know a bit about this line...

Great site! I noticed that I have a variant. I don't know which one is, if any one of them is but one of my Moth Lady has yellow eyes and the other has red eyes.

i'd have to look through mine, at the moment i have two moth ladies, but i've never noticed this "variant", but there are several "variants", most of which aren't really "variants"...not to say yours isn't a variant, but it might NOT be...
one thing that makes this line interesting is that the conditions of the plastics and paints on these toys they have a tendency to break down over time...i classify this break down either as "hard" or "soft" depending upon its severity...and it makes it kinda hard to know what "mint" is('cause it totally happens MIB as well)...
the gold on the capes are generally the first thing to go and i think i am still missing a couple of MINT capes because of this...VERY difficult to find the gold capes in good condition...the next thing to go is the paint on the face and then the legs...SOMETIMES it will fade away and still remain as a "ghost" of itself or sometimes totally be gone...SOMETIMES the paint(particuarly the gold) will react with the plastic and create discoloring(i have a Onyx that looks like a zombie from all the black/grey around her eyes and earings/face), and sometimes as they fade, breakdown, and/or "bleed" into the plastic you will get "new" colors that weren't there in the first place...and of course the infamous knee discoloration, which happens from the plastic of the internal "skeleton" breaking down and reacting with the plastic of the "skin"...
ANY of these things can happen to seemingly ANY figure with a certain amount of randomness...you can get a figure with a MESSED up face, but the rest will be seemingly perfect(i've seen it vica versa with the legs too)...for example i have a "variant" Ogra that doesn't have his lower lip painted the lighter flesh tone...there is NO trace of fading, but i am inclined to believe that it is faded away like other paints i've seen on these figures, rather than an actual production variant...
anyways, i'm not saying you don't have a variant Moth Lady, just that it is REALLY hard to determine these things since essentially NO figure anywhere is completely mint and in the original condition because of time...

Thanks for the site Centurn, I just won a bid of various Golden Girls with a tons of sccessories, this site sure help my out figuring it out!
I got attracted to this line by the Wild One Viking barbarian lady, she about the best warrior babe figure ever, with war paint, big axe, furs and all!
I was impressed by the die cast metal shield when I actually got them, thought they were just plain plastic, but having cool metal part on Heroic Fantasy figure work pretty well.

Y'know...it kinda bugs me that no one seems to want to show off the interior of the Palace Of Gems. Every time I see a photo, it's just the image of the unopened boxed set or the photo from the back of the figure packages...HARUMPH!!! Guess a girl's gotta do whatta girl's gotta do! D'ah, I mean "man"!!! Yikes...... Got this thing a few months ago on a whim. I knew about Golden Girl long before but never really looked into it that well. I didn't even know they had a playset. I was searching through old 80s playsets to find a decent stand-in for the Galaxy Fighters Castle of Doom...hey, my generic fantasy knock-offs needed a place to hang out...and realized this set would work out kinda cool. I searched and searched and came across one of these playsets, like, once but lost out on it. I keep trying but lost interest, then stumbled across this along with some figures for about a hundred bucks. Pretty neat! Complete with instructions and even the decorative cardboard inserts.

Here's another closeup angle of the front. The colored sections are not stickers as far as I can tell, just cardboard. The round colored cardboard piece is kind of a mystery. The two larger pieces are cut to fit the walls, but the round thing? I'm assuming it's a rug 'cause it doesn't seem to fit anywhere.

The jail is kinda fancy lookin' for a prison...looks like some tacky decorative fence someone's grandma might have on their porch! Anyway, both sides swing open...some shackles molded onto the wall in case Dragon Queen gets too rowdy. In case you didn't know, there's a trap door above the cell activated by the turn of the golden goddess statue...whose wings can easily slice one's corneas, so beware...sharp! The throne is pretty neat. The cushion part is a separate piece. The table's legs also can come off.

Over here is a secret panel...or maybe just a closet? We also have a flip-down table with some beauty tools molded into it. We even get a little chest to keep crap in...jewels and such... There's a decorative post to tie horse to and a trough...when I first examined this, my imagination shot ahead of my common sense...I thought it was some enchanted pool of mystical, magical sacred water...but it's basically a glorified slop bucket fer hosses...dagnabbit!

This thing is a cool playset, even if you don't like Golden Girl. It just looks really cool and dramatic. It's girlie-looking, but can pass for an HQ for other action figures if you doctor it up a bit. Unlike Castle Greyskull or the Crystal Castle, this thing is a little more fragile and has more fragile pieces. I'm no expert but I'm kinda feeling I got lucky finding this in decent shape. I'm tempted to paint some more gold accents on it to match the imagery on the box it came it...we'll see.

It looks amazing. I have been wanting to get it for some time now. Do you have a shot of it with the figures displayed on it. Would love to see that. Never seen one displayed.

The throne/desk combo is bitchin'.
That whole first pic looks like a fancy villains' meeting lobby. Like some toy version of the Overlook.

Does anyone have any info on this Golden Girl Chariot. Is it common or rare?? The horse and chraiot are in perfect shape and have never been removed, however the plastic bubble is missing.

It isn't super common and isn't quite rare. Kind of right in the middle. The only "rare" piece is the castle. But it pops 3 or 4 times a year.

Now that I'm looking at that horse. Are the horses marked in any way? I think I had that black one in my hands on a flea market last week but didn't buy it

I'm new at collecting Golden Girl, just been collecting for roughly a month, I've read pretty much all that I can find out about the line, but the only variations I know about is Wild Ones cloak as stated on the lair on storm isle. But it just caught my eye a bit when looking a bit on the back of a fashion card that Ogra's helm is red. Anyone know if the red helm ever came to production? It looks pretty awesome. I see it's a lot that differ so it's probably just pre production photos.

Every one I've had or seen is just a rubbery black piece. Still a great accessory.

Yeah, a lot of those images on the backs of the packs are such a tease, aren't they? Even the palace playset seems to show sculptural difference from the actual piece as well as color variation (the dome is multicolored like stained glass). Most of those images are probably early stage or prototypes...happens a lot with many toy lines. They end up going with more cost effective paint schemes and such. Off the top of my head...scope out the cardbacks for Defenders of the Planets...I know they have many actual variations, but the sculpts and color schemes utilized for advertisement are not even known to exist.
