Captain Simian and the Space Monkeys. I used to watch this cartoon back in the 90's. It was an ok view.

I remember really liking this show, i think because of how unique it was. I don't recall if it did very well but I don't know anyone personally who can remember it so im assuming it wasnt too big of a hit. Well i tried to track down some of the European vehicles that got made, and theres a few on ebay but they are asking for huge bucks, which suprised me because I wasn't aware it was really worth much. Does anyone else like Captain Simian figures or the cartoon for that matter? Do you guys think the toys are rare enough to justify a high price these days? (vehicles in particular)

My sister has the basic set of six figures in her monkey collection, and I bought them for her as a gift years ago. It's a shame we didn't appreciate them when they were practically giving them away at Kay Bee stores in the mid-90s!
Collectors have determined the market on this stuff, and since the European-only stuff (Shao Lin, the Speed Peeler, the Primate Avenger, etc.) was produced in such small quantities, collectors seem to have driven up the price. This isn't one of those cases where it's much easier to find something in Europe than it is in the United States. These toys simply were not released in America.
Likewise, the show has a small but loyal following. It's one thing to have 1,000 casual fans. It's quite another to have maybe 20 totally rabid ones, and that's probably why the prices are so high.
Another reason I believe they are high is because there seems to be a greater awareness of non-Star Wars, non-Star Trek, non-McFarlane, and non-Marvel toys of the 1990s. EVERYBODY was buying those four toys I just mentioned, but hardly anybody was collecting other toy lines out at the time. Thus, you have a line that got ignored until people rediscovered the toys and the shows. Collector gold!
Believe me, I'd love to get a bargain on some of that European only stuff, but until I'm able to check boot sales on a regular basis out there, I don't think it's going to happen.

well i got a little lucky on the bay latly, scored the massive Primate Avenger for 30$ shipped with a Captain SImian figure included. I'm pretty pumped, but im still on the lookout for the other two ships, and the gormungus and shao-lin figures. I used to love this show when i was a kid (im not that old i guess) haha. really a unique idea and one that i think was perfect for those early mornings before school.

I have everything apart from Gormungus who is a knightmare to find. He was produced, but limited and it's possible he never hit US retail. The trouble with shows of this period is there is a lack of knowledge. Shao Lin,Speed Peeler and the Primate Avenger are fairly easy to find. Rhesus 2 ship is much harder and like I said Gormungus is nowhere.

I just recently sold some MOC stuff from this line. Fun line to collect. I don't really remember the cartoon all that well.

Yes all I need now is the rhesus 2 ship to complete my set. I am not sure it exists as i have never seen an actual picture of one anywhere except for on the back of toys packaging. Does anyone here own one of these ships?

I just got a HUGE box in the mail of captain simian stuff. All on ebay for 40 bucks shipped:
Completed Shao Lin (loose) Complete Gor-Illa (loose) Complete Spydor (loose) Complete Captain Simian (loose)
Speed Peeler with box, only missing front missile! I had never even seen one of these things, and this vehicle rocks. It even has an extra seat for a rear gunner. Once i get my camera late tonight I'll post some pics. Theres an all brown version of captain simian on the back of the box, must be a prototype or something I'm not really sure.

It's been a while since I've posted anything new, but I haven't had much time to browse ebay lately. I did manage to score one of my personal white whales for a long time: Gormongus! This guy is huge. His backpack allows for one of the other figures to ride on. I would have taken pics with some of the other figures for scale, but I honestly don't have any out of storage right now. This figure unfortunately has some sun damage to his backpack area, but he's in decent condition considering how old he is. I did manage to find a loose Speed Peeler laying around, so I did a size comparison just to show how massive this guy is. This is the first one I've ever seen on ebay in 15 years, but I know someone else here managed to score a boxed one. If you ever get a chance to snag this, I highly recommend picking it up.
