im sure most of you will agree that hasbro makes better star wars figures (more moving parts)
but does anyone prefer the old kenner toys more?

I'm nostalgic for the vintage kenner toys. I grew up with those so thats what I've gravitated towards collecting-wise. Of course the articulation and molds in the current Hasbro figures are better, 30 years ago the technology for making action figures was in its infancy. Anywho, that's my two cents.

I do prefer the vintage ones. They are beautiful in their simplicity.
I wish they would start a 7" scale series with the same quality as the modern stuff, that would be an undefeatable toy line.

I couldnt agree more with what has already been said. although the current lines have provided some of the figures many of us would have liked to have seen as a child, the vintage line holds to special of a place in the hearts of us who grew up collecting them.

i dont know why, but kenner star wars is the only 3 3/4" scale line i do not collect. i do have a few vintage return figures that i think still look better than their modern counterparts, but thats it. i just think the sculpts and variety on the modern figures is way better. i do however not care about the modern articulation, i would be fine with the old 5 point articulation. i think alot of modern figures are just really fragile seeming because everyone is always throwing such a fit about more articulation, more more MORE!

yeah that was pretty much why i stopped collecting POTF2. Once the prequels hit, they started this DEMAND for more articulation. I dont realy need more than shoulders hips and neck. I don't see the point on figures that small. It's gotten really kind of crazy. Figures cost 10 dollars for a 3 3/4 inch that barely stands, and is made out of rubbery plastic that bends and stretches.

The newer toys are designed more for displays than for playing. Those advanced points of articulation are frustrating when actually playing with the figures and wanting one to move its arm quickly and without much effort. For that reason, I find the old figures far more appealing. I'd rather imagine those extra poses and get the basic motions without any problems.
Then again, I don't know how many other adults out there are buying these figures and actually playing with them...

its why i love the old fisher price adventure people, those things were practically indestructable. these modern figures are known to break just getting them out of the package. and i pose mine in display, but not doing cartwheels or anything. so yeah all the articulation is just way more than i need. the new star wars are alot sturdier than most other modern 3 3/4" lines though. alot of the other lines im half afraid to move the joints.

i was really pumped when the 25th gijoe line got announced, and i remember going out and buying those multipacks, which all basically broke on me i really like the designs they made, but i just couldnt DO anything with them. it really bummed me out and i basically stuck with finishing up my Sigma Six stuff at the time. those adventure people really were awesome. i especially liked the space ones, and i stil have some of them around.

The main reason I collect the vintage toys are because I played with these as a kid, and it gives me a good feeling looking at them. It brings back many good memories. I also think that the figure designs are very good and they are charming in their own way.
As far as better or worse, I think the vintage toys where very durable with the exceptions the ships, the tie fighter for example could break easily but the figures could endure most stuff. I never got any of the newer stuff since they started to look so much different from the vintage lines. I don't know about quality but I am sure young star wars fans will like the new lines as much as I liked the ones from my childhood.

I agree with rawlin. I collect the vintage because they're vintage. It's what I had as a kid and I still have those rugged figures that endured years of abuse.

I prefer the vintage figs. I like the simplicity of them I'm not really a fan of the new figs with all the articulation (not specifally star wars but things like marvel legends). I like the basic movements they have

Kenner made a much sturdier figure with a better quality of plastic.

I would have to say Kenner because of the nostalgia factor of growing up with them, but I love Hasbro too. I'm a loose collector and with certain properties I'm a huge fan of, a "completeist"...if that's even a word. I want 1 of every figure....with accessories if possible, without is ok....but Hasbro ruined that for me. POTF2 holds a special place because they were the first new figures. Popping into a Toys R Us for 1 figure for my desk back in 1995 is what gave me the bug to become a collector. I have every figure (character, creature or droid) from the line. I loved the new design, higher detail and better, more realistic, sculpting. Then came Episode I. I have all but 2 figures of that. I mean, it was the first new film, we were all hyped up and was excited to be able to get a new Star Wars line in stores from a new movie. Then Power of the Jedi happened. Only have a bit more than half of those. The redos of prequel and vintage characters were starting to get on my nerves. For the first time I truly felt like they were taking advantage of the stereotype that us fans would be anything Star Wars. Then Saga and the rest came and I got off Hasbro's crap. Enough was enough. I even decided on a more realistic goal for my collection. 1 of every character, but that was shot to hell as expensive exclusives came out, every droid permutation under the sun, every trooper they can put a paint stripe on and call unique. Bah! Wow, that was a rant and a half. Felt good to get that off my chest. LOL Guess it's been on my mind as I've finally be able to actively try and complete the vintage line. This past week I won 24 more figs! w00t.

For me it's a hit and miss for both lines. Hasbro has some complete crap at times... but some truly amazing stuff too. It's almost like they plan to release crap.

I recently finished my vintage figure collection, obviously that will always be my favorite and the most loved to me, by memories and nostalgia. But now I've been grabbing up some of Hasbros toys clone wars, as I've said in other threads. And I like them a lot.
The sculpts are getting great on the newer figures. But as for quality I think they break easily, they also get loose limbs real easy, one of mine even had that when I got him, it was Yoda. So as for quality I am not sure. But I know that Kenner where not flawless either. Sometimes even arms and legs where misplaced at factory and quality for sure varied.
But hell, breaking a Kenner figure was like breaking solid rock compared to hasbros.

Jumbo machinders were giant 2 foot tall (or were they 3?!) robots with missile firing fists. In the states they were called shogun warriors I believe. They looked like this. Apparently, the cats who own and operate s7 played with machinder/shogun toys growing up and were fans of star wars, always wishing they had a machinder stormtrooper. Years later, they did it..

I like the original vintage figures better. For some reason i just dont like the over articulation of modern figures. I think the originals in some ways are better looking anyways. Chewie is a good example of that.

Originals. You can get more detail from a figure the less articulation it has, therefore I think the old ones are more realistic, not to mention I had them as a child. Its odd that the new ones would have more articulation when less people actually play with the new ones. I must say however that I preferred other action figures as a child for the exact reason that they had less articulation. Funny how that works.

I too prefer the vintage figures. That's all I have in my personal collection. Even though they are pretty "basic", I like them simply for the fact that these were what I had in my childhood and are representative of the classic trilogy that I love so much.
