Hi all, I'm new to the site and forum. I emailed Chad asking for his help identifying a toy from 1984-1985 and he suggested posting on this forum. The figure in question was about 6-8 inces high and the cool feature was that the head was removable and in fact it was a tennisball-sized ball. The figure I had was a mummy but I remember from the back of the package that there were at least 4 other monsters. The figure had articulated arms and knees and a round body - and as I mentioned before, you could remove the head/ball by pressing on a lever on the back. Do you guys have any ideas of the name of the digure/line??? Thanks!

I looked around a little and found that there were madball figures with 'head popping action' and the mummy was one of them. I haven't found a pic though.

I never knew they put out figures for Madballs. I always liked the original madballs and had one that was a football.

I hope this is the right topic to list this under. I picked these up today at a garage sale, Ive never seen them before. They are marked 1986, They clearly are Madballs from the front, Snakebait and Locklips.. But from the back they seem to be a sort of Top, or missle/projectile.. does anyone know where these came from, or what was used to make these work? I never knew they existed until today when I found them, any info or photos would rock. thanks! Take care.. They are very heavy, hard plastic, Good Quality.

What you've got there are two heads from the vintage Madballs "Head Popping Action Figure". A line of actual little figures where the Madballs were the heads and they would pop-off. I assume via spring and lever. Here's a pic of Lock Lips www.nuttynuts.net/shop/ball-madFlock.JPG

I have one of the head poppers and the head itself has a hole in it, the body has the peg. I don't think that these two pieses are from that series.

They're really cool Definately going to try and find at least one of them to add to my collection. I have a Madballs Horn Head mask dated 1986, that is the only one I have seen so far also. Thanks again for the share and extra pics.

There were a LOT of knock off madballs made by various companies in the 80's. Even knock off madball windups made by Woolworth...
They might be legit, but you'd think they'd have the Amtoy markings then. Whoever said that it looks like a ripcord goes in there are dead on. The probably have an internal gyroscope type engine, and when you pull the ripcord through, they spin like a top on the red protrusion thing. I've seen many fast food toys that operate on the same principle. In any event, they look cool.

Quite a few of the ripcords from different toys and vehicles are fairl standard and will work in most toys that use them, so if you have a ripcord like for a Tron Lightcycle, or one of the Star Wars fast food toys or any of the old TOMY motorcycles or spinbots that used them, it might work on this. They're usually pretty universal. I have one black ripcord, not sure what it's from, that will work a multitude of fast food toys (Star wars, Shrek, Spongebob, etc.), as well as my Tomy Light Cycle and the Starriors Strazor. Might want to check Ebay for a cheap fast food toy that comes with a rip cord and pick one up. It should only be a buck or so, and if it doesn't work, you aren't out much...

Wants $200 OBO for it though. And $100 OBO for the balls moc. I am half tempted to have a shot at the top. But given his prices it looks like he is after a fair amount.

yea, $200 is to steep for that top.
Im not that die hard of a MOC madballs collector.
his regular madballs are high at $100 each also. They should be in the $50 area tops. ah well.

Yeah they are pretty cool. I was actually enquiring about some other items he had listed and he mentioned he had these. Needless to say the deal changed pretty quickly as I wasn't about to let them go I got a whole loose set of the large collectums off him also. At the moment I think they are going to be living with me for a while.

I didnt know there was so many types of madballs out there. I use to collect these every week in the mid eighties until i had them all. Have fond memories of them and those M.U.S.C.L.E men.

I had a madball knock-off that I loved and lasted way longer than all my friends since mine was made of rubber and theirs were foam lol. My guy was green with black hair and one of his eyes was falling out. He sort of reminded me of the Frankenstein monster, mainly I think because he had some stitches on his head somewhere. I think the ball was actually inflatable now that I've got my memory banks working but I remember it getting deformed so I let the air back out to normal. Didn't seem to affect this tough little toy.
