Although I still can't believe this,I was at an antique/consignment store yesterday. While browsing I saw some baseball cards for sale. In the mid 80s I briefly collected baseball cards so I am sort of familiar with what some of them might be worth. Anyhow,a seller had a 1981 Donruss Johnny Bench card. He had $200.00 on it. I knew that was completely nuts,I figured the card MIGHT be worth ten bucks, barring some kind of card variation. I just did a search on ebay for this card just to make sure and this card commonly can be had for $1.00. If any variations of this card exist to jack the price up to $200.00,nobody has one currently on ebay. There was also a 1984 Topps Eddie Murray for $100.00. I used to be pretty knowledgeable about baseball players as far as recognizing their names and there was even a card of somebody from the 1984 Topps set I didn't know who he was and his card was priced at $100.00. And the card was in a little "wavy" condition. This same seller also had a used copy on vinyl record of the Rolling Stones' 1980 album "Emotional Rescue". He had $60.00 on it. I had to get out of there at that point because I was afraid I was either in a real bad nightmare or I was slipping into the twilight zone without realizing it !

I am sitting on a bit over 100,000 baseball, basketball and football cards. Anyone who will pay what that guy was asking, please contact me.

I wonder if he'd buy cards for 10% of their supposed value. I have some I could sell him.

I just wonder if he really thinks somebody is going to actually give him one or two hundred dollars for a card that lists in price guides for $5 or less. Almost anything you can collect has either monthly magazines or books that are published yearly that contain price guides. Add information that can be gathered online, and you quickly realize there are very few secrets out there in the world of collectibles anymore. Perhaps scams like this could have been pulled off over 25 years ago but not so much these days.
