Hey, I'm new and actually joined to post about these lines (I'll post about other stuff too, of course
Is the following anywhere close to being right? and can anyone answer the questions within please?
Wrestling Champions by Madison LTD came on red cards with a basic white text logo. Two series - Series 1 is 6-back, Series 2 12-back, Series 1 includes the Batoon and 'pointed head white Mexican wrestler' (Ivan the Snakeman) heads, series 2 includes the Anobe head. All figures use Galaxy Fighters body types (closed left hand).
Wrestling Champions on Blue Cards with 3 Stars curved logo, Group 1, Use the Galaxy Warriors body (open left hand), card art all feature a
red masked Mexican wrestler fighting a
blond American wrestler in lightning trousers:
•
The HH Wrestling Champions are the best quality, six figures including Black Tornado and the blue-haired (full head of hair) elf-like Tinja with sideburns. Have HH logo in the bottom corner of the front of cards. Does anyone know who made these i.e. what HH stands for?
• The 833 Wrestling Champions, slightly bigger than most Champions, use the exact same card art as above but have no manufacturer's markings (that I can see), 8 figures numbered rather than named, all numbers start with 833. Does anyone have a short/scan of the back of card for the version of Hulka from Combo (Warriors) in this style? Because he's not shown on the back of the card for this line that I have, which would imply a second series or another iteration of the 883 style (Hulka's the one with the big eyebrows, mustache, beard and Wolverine hair, looks a bit like a cross between a Thundercat and Sonic the Hedgehog's Uncle Chuck?). This is the line that uses the completely different pink card with different logo and art.
• The 338/339 Wrestling Champions use the same cards as the above two but smaller and look slightly cheaper, they are made in China.18 figures using the heads from the above two lines plus some original ones, all figures use numbers rather than names and the numbers start either 338 or 339. No company markings on these cards, nor on the 833.
Wrestling Champions on Blue Cards with 3 Stars curved logo, Group 2, card art has a yellow border and features a
white masked Mexican wrestler (Ivan the Snakeman from the Madison LTD line, he of the pointy white head) fighting a
brunette American wrestler:
• Wrestler, a 6 figure line that includes Mr Unknown (Satoh from Turly Gang) and an 'Iron Sheik' head (his name is Mask in this line). Also released as Wrestling Champions and both straight legged Soma Fantasy World-esque legs and He-Man Squat legs have been used. They use Galaxy Warriors bodies.
• The 'Madison' Yellow Boarder Wrestling Champions re-release figures from the Madison LTD line but on the Yellow Boarder/Ivan the Snakeman card art, the line responsible for the 'minis' and presumably the Wrestling Thumb Champions. I don't have a back of card shot/scan for Madison figures on this style of card, could someone please put me out of my misery and provide one? I know I've seen a carded Ivan the Snakeman in this style of card. Furthermore does anyone know if these actually are by Madison LTD? They use the same body but look a little cheaper.
• The 338/339 Yellow Boarder Wrestling Champions are just a straight re-release of the 338/339 line on a different card, also released as Wrestler (using the exact same card-art as the above Wrestler line) when released two-on-a-card, straight legged versions of those 2-packs exist.
Cumberland's Wrestling Champs use heads from all of the above and the Galaxy Warriors body, these are also released as
Super Champs, presumably bootlegs of Wrestling Champs and in that form have no company name on the packaging.
Plus:
Sungold have
Wrestling Champion (no plural) later released as
Wrestler with new WWF inspired card-art and mad body paint inspired no doubt by the Ultimate Warrior, does anyone have the card art for the original Wrestling Champion? I only have box art for the ring (which is the mad body art version I think) and loose shots of that era, but carded shots of all the later Wrestler versions.
Sparkle produced
Wrestlers of the WorldSoma released
World Wrestler, re-released in 1991 as
World Champion Wrestlers with more Ultimate Warrior-style mad body art
*phew* did I miss anyone?
Thanks!
