Does anyone think that alot of people may come on this site just to get reference material or use everyones toy knowledge filled noodles just so they know what to list their hauls and parts and pieces under ?

I would say yes. So many times I have just seen new people come on just to advertise what they have for sale, or people that just post things that they are selling repeatedly nothing else. I know I use the site for reference material (the site is incredible for that using it as reference allowed me to pick up a set of Zap (Force) Police for my collection that I wanted), but thats cause I only know Thundercats down pat not too much else. I dont condone people who use the site just to find out what they have that they want to sell and thats it.

Maybe I’m one of those too This site has 480 members but you always see the same 30 names or so posting replies or creating new threads. There are lots of old registered members with 1 or 0 posts, and they can read all that other regular members post, so maybe these people had registered here just to do what you said.

I agree, info hunters and pure sellers are just using us / the site for their own gain. But the nature of the site encourages selling, trading and the sharing of info and I'd hate to see that change. I think the tourists exist on most sites, just a fact of life (although to be honest this is the only action figure site I'm active, and RJ for the robots, the only one of the 'big 4' I collect is TF's and that's more of a side line) I've traded, bought and sold here, but I think I've only really delt with 'active' members. I feel more comfortable that way. btw, hudasa21, you've helped me out with info on more than one occasion so in my book you guys contribute plenty to the site

What's wrong with people using this site to obtain info? What's wrong with people listing stuff they are going to sell or giving a link to stuff they are selling? I've bought a few things from travelers of the site. I think it's great that sites like this exist for those very purposes. It's up to you to respond or not to respond. It's up to you if you read or participate in their questions.

that's what this site is for and if my knowledge helps you find that one thing you want or need then power to ya this is a community of people with a common interest that should benifit us all. i think if we all work together and share we could all help each other reach our collecting goals. and the people that just sell stuff awesome they might have something you or me need or want. POWER TO ALL COLLECTORS!!!!!!

the "collectors" that do research into a figure/toys value where they are anoying some times ...at least they care enuff to look...the real jerks are the ones that dont know anything except that there is a market for figures and totaly over charge for something as soon as you,me,us (the real collectors)show interest in it !!!!

I came to this site in an attempt to engage in "conversation",if you will, with other people who are like me and enjoy collecting those liitle bits of plastic called action figures. Also,I feel this site could be a good source to trade for/buy pieces to perhaps complete a collection or so forth. I may try to hawk an occassional tawdry ware ....

Well for all you new people, this isn't against anyone new that isn't a duche. This is statement is for all the freeloaders, scammers, what have you, that only come to this site to feed on everyone elses knowledge for their own benefit - new or old members. The more people the greater the knowlwdge doesn't necessarily mean just that. This is why this forum has become more of a neo-collectible forum than a vintage. Now again, this is nothing against you younger or more contemporary toy collectors, but this forum has declined in knoweledge just because all the old school collectors has moved on to greener pastures because of all the scalpers who just sell off the "talk of the town" stuff at ridiculous prices to other scalpers who plan to do the same to other vintage wannabe ko collectors and vinatge collectors in general. This isn't jealousy, but those people aren't collectors, they're feeders!!

Other than Vipermaxx more than likely lurking on these forums, there have been a few others that have done this over the past few years, who have quickley disappeared. Its bound to happen with an open forum every once in awhile. In order for a forum to grow, it needs to be available for potential new members to browse and join if they like. Thats how most members here found and joined this site and most of you actually got to know each other. Its impossible to go on forever scouring other forums for members to populate a private forum to have an "elite" membership.
I also wouldn't call the handfull of regular posters who now spend more of their time on a private forum "all the real collectors". It is simply a portion of collectors from this site who feel they divulged to much information on certain lines and decided to only share it amongst themselves so not to increase the popularity and prices of these lines. I find it ironic that nearly every member here has started collecting at least one other line that were mentioned by other members at one time or another, including members who were the most vocal about this. I believe that "figure competion" is the real issue here and not the potential scammers, as they do show up from time to time, same as any other forum similar to this site. I think its time to stop complaining and simply share information if you like, or not.

POWER TO ALL COLLECTORS!!!!!! Agreed. Since I am a girl and my age, this does seem to limit me to certain posts, and I normally only post the ebay items im selling in here because I'd feel like odd not posting it when I am selling figures.. I suppose being online for a while and seeing the travelers would be another story.

I came here actually when i was looking online for the WCW Galoob Diamond Studd prototype and read through the thread and the replies to it. I had found people with the same excitement and knowledge of a line of toys i love and thats why i joined. I posted a Trade/Sell list as i knew i had some stuff that other collectors might find more interest in than me. It justs sits in a box in my son's closet, better benefitting a Collector than gathering dust. Plus through this site i have rekindled childhood memories just by seeing a picture of a figure or vehicle i had completely forgotten about. I find this site to be a great place to exchange knowledge, information on where to find figures, check if a deal is a rip-off, who good/bad dealers are etc. Personally i like reading the Heartbreaking Moments thread i started, just for the tragic stories similar to mine. Plus over time you guys will get to know me better and i (hopefully) end up one of the regulars who people turn to for knowledge of a certain toyline. Thanks Lude

I was the perfect age for GI. Joe's 3 3/4 invasion, (still remember the straight arm guys), MOTU, and Star Wars, glorious Star Wars! I am also very new to this site, and I love it because I'm able to talk with people who share the same interests as me. You see, I am blessed with great friends and family, however none of them share my love of action figures. This is the one place where I can say the word "Remco", and you guys know what the hell I'm talking about. Do I get information from here? Sure, we are living in an information age, are we not? Meatybat's knowledge of Speclatron alone in unbelievable, where else in the world could I get this wealth of knowledge of an obscure He- Man knockoff? Will I use this knowledge to my own ends? I'll use it to hunt down Speclatron figures, but just for my personal collection, not to sell at jacked up prices. I appreciate Meatybat for sharing his info, and if I get any doubles of a figure, he has 1st dibs. Am I jumping on a bandwagon? Well, I had a Speclatron figure back in the day, but completely forgot about him and the line until I found this site. So there you go, by me stumbling upon this site all you Speclatron collectors have one more guy to compete with on ebay I strictly collected toys until about 3 years ago, when I decided to sell off about 75% of my collection on ebay . I just sold stuff from the 90's up, keeping all the 80's goodness. It was actually a lot of fun, and I still sell stuff from time to time, but I think reserves are for wussies, and my opening bid is almost always $1. I'm working on a Master's Degree in Social Work, so selling Toys is not my sole source of income, I mostly just sell stuff I don't want to break even or at least recoup some $. But hey, that's just me.

I gotta say... I was looking for a place to talk and meet others who have similar interests in action figures... However, I was also looking for a place to sell & trade. I 've been disappointed with ebay, but keep using it as a resource tool for information & research (and will probably not give it up).
This site has been really helpful to me! And it's because you guys share info. and ideas about toy repair, latest toys, hard to remember items...
Coming on here, I investigated and learned about new toys I didn't even know existed: He-man MOTU Classics, Transformers Universe Deluxe Classics, etc... I am stoked to be pointed in the right direction for links on info about these guys, and for the idea of sharing knowledge...
Because of this site... I have learned a great deal of places/sites to look into for info. I am grateful for that, and want to contribute back.
I think that the issue is then not that there are people on here just to get information, but are they here to get information and leave... or actually try and participate in the community so as to also contribute.
The power of intention is an important thing, and I sense the frustration lies in being used and individuals not reciprocating.

Individuals not being reciprocating and being used... I know a lot about that. But that's another story, I think.
However, I may sometimes not seeming to say much, here. Here's an example of what I mean. In 2005, I registered in the Extinction forum, by Peter Maas, where I soon reached the level of an "Expert" member (which is the same as being "Hoarder of All Toys" here). However, after about 1500 posts, I started to feel that I spent all of my conversation ideas; I had said everything I had to say. So, today, I don't go there as much often as I used to. Oh! They know about my ideas-spent situation; so, they don't seem to bother a lot. But what happenned there can also happen here someday; not being able to find anything new to say...

I don' think that using a site strictly to take information and sell stuff is cool. Although, I did look into a MLP site when I found some vintage MLPs and I have little to no interest in MYPs. I never followed through so I think this indicates that it's unlikely that someone would stay for very long as just a guest who is trying to sell stuff. This site, on the other hand, was very appealing as it struck the chord for me in that the threads were all talking about stuff that I was crazy about in the 80s! I read literally 50% of the threads within the first couple of days, just basking in that sweet 80s glow.

This did not bother me at first but now that I have read all the threads that seemed interesting to me I am starving for new information/discussion so when I see the ID posts of hundreds of guns and weapons its a little bit of a bummer. Just about every day I scan the forums for new posts. I usually also look at how many people logged in the last 24 hours and find that even when 50 or so people have logged there are rarely more than a few posts. This leads me to believe that a lot of people are just looking to find out what they have so they can sell it as what it is. I suppose there is no way to eliminate leeching without preventing new people from joining. Its a catch 22 of sorts?

What I dislike on any collecting forum is when someone joins new and simply asks stuff so they can list it on ebay at said price...they can't be bothered to do a Google search and find out things themselves....they know they can ask collectors on forums instead....

I don't share info because I'm tired of seeing that info come back later to bite me in the behind. It's cool if people want info on very obscure lines but when you see lazy people asking what's this on stuff like MOTU, G.I. Joe, Star Wars etc... which is easy to figure out if you just did a google search, then run to ebay with it. These peeps don't even offer it up to the boards and if they do they want really high prices. Clearly these individuals are out for themselves and I won't help make it any easier for them. Sure there are good apples but when a site becomes nothing but ppl shopping their stuff, the site just declines because you don't have the same sense of community.

The above posts are examples of why we do not let new members see the ID and Sale/Trade/Want lists until they reach non-spam 30 posts.

I like coming here because most people will usually talk about interesting lines and not the same modern stuff thats recycled over and over. I also like figure databases with "pictures" of complete lines. I've always thought that was the coolest part about the internet, when you randomly find a cool fan page dedicated to one toyline. I agree that sometimes it gets weird seeing new members post 100 times in a day in order to get into the buy/sell forum, but I guess that's life. This is by far the best site for cool toy lines from the past 30 years.

That's why I like coming here. I don't know anything about the MOTU knock-offs nor do I collect them. But I like reading all the threads going for the different lines out there. When it comes to ID things I am nowhere near as on the ball as some of you guys. It''s not that I don't want to help or anything. When I can, I do. Half the time somoene else has already nailed any of the easy ones that I would know LOL. Anyway, just thought I would thriow that out there.
