yeah and so does starwars. but is it worth it? no. they'll never go up they'll never be rare or hard to find. it will just be tons and tons of crap everywhere.
you also forget (NOT INSULTING YOU OR ANYONE ESLE) that gijoe is a reality based plaything. its a toy that can be simply imagined. motu takes place in a non reality based situation. which makes it harder to jump into. gi joe also had the support of having been the play thing of the parents before. so it had a head start. parents pick what kids play with first.
yes gijoe has conventions and so does tf's and starwars. but theres also 100000000000000000 pieces to get. motu is a very small line. very easy to complete all you need is some $$$$. tf's,gijoe and starwars are for marks. its the easy cop out. it's like picking ryu or ken in street fighter. i know as a collector and a player. i know when i pick ken i get a simplistic advantage.

You have some valid points, however I do not collect for rarity or prices going up. Never. My collection shows that as I have very little in the areas of some of the MOTU knock off lines (which I think are sometimes better and even more imaginable than MOTU) that cost quite a bit to obtain. I (and I am only speaking for myself) collect what I like.
Not all of GI Joe is rooted in reality. Much like the Rambo Cartoons and Toys many Joes are fantastic in their nature - android troopers, cobra-la snake like mutants, fantasy based mind control and shapeshifting powers, almost super skills and abilities that are impossible to act upon as a real soldier (trust me I know), Ninjitsu warriors with a past and a bit of mysticism between them. I really have never considered all of Joe, especially ARAH and Sigma 6 reality based or even just Army men. Just like MOTU is not all Sword and Sandal or Magic, MOTU is about great creatures and characters also. I love the history of MOTU and I love that it was the first to reconnect toys with cartoons after the ban was lifted on the two being joined. The characters in MOTU are quite enjoyable and I one day hope to collect them all for that joy they give me. (I do have a small display for them now.)
As you pointed out it is easier to collect Joes as far as rarity and prices go and that does appeal to me as an adult with kids and such. And there are so many of them which has negatives (ie there are some that have been crap especially things like GI Joe Extreme IMO) and positives (so much to choose from).
In the long run both will be fondly remembered and both are history making movements in figures and in story lines. They began a legacy that has grown men to this day discussing them; that is quite impressive!
I personally enjoy my Joes, and everynow and again I do let my Battle Armor Skeletor come step on Duke or Cobra Commander.
As far as crap being produced, maybe, but then again my parents took many over the shoulder glances at my Joes and MOTU and said "look at that crap they are making now". Shows what they knew, huh?

He-Man's story line is weak at best. Nothing but a recycled world, with recycled heroes and villians. Don't tell me you think He-Man was a new idea. Harder to jump into? For who? I had no problem jumping there. It was just that I had been there before when it was called Conan, or Sinbad, or Excaliber, etc. etc. The toys were okay, they just lacked movement, which is a big reason I picked Joes over He-Man. He-Man is still better than most of what's out today though.

name one negative review of gijoe toys in the 80's...he-man was called the devil and considered against religion. that in its self wipes half the worlds market right out. i never said motu was original in its concept only that it was constantly creative in its developement of these worlds. you can say yeah it stole from conan, john carter, kona, and 100's of others but how many held on. none he-man even beat conan at its own game. becuase it was great.
gijoe is just much more friendly to a military driven world. soilders have kids and want them to grow up and be troops. thats why gijoe exists. gijoe in itself is propaganda the same way dolls are for girls.
and as if i dont have 100's of joes. from everywhere. i have tons of the old comics and for frack::::sake i have the extensive enterprises logo tattooed behind both of my ears. im a fan. but only to a degree.

I do have to say that Joes are part of the reason I went into the Army, lol. But thank the Lord I did, cause if I had gotten this sick in a regular job they would have said heres a watch sorry hope you feel better. So propaganda was part of it in '82 and in some ways may have re-launched Sigma 6 again as the need of troops has increased in this decade. Conan and John Carter are getting ready to have a re-surge into the pop culture again real soon. So lets hope we get more fantastic fantasy figures from them!

It was harder for me to jump into G.I.Joe than He-man. I never heard of He-Man being called the devil? That's ridiculus. I probably like He-Man more now than I did as a kid because they look cool, they just suck when it comes to movement.
gijoe is just much more friendly to a military driven world. soilders have kids and want them to grow up and be troops. thats why gijoe exists. gijoe in itself is propaganda the same way dolls are for girls.
Yeah, maybe, but I don't dig into deeper meanings with my toys.
and as if i dont have 100's of joes.
Yes, with each having a different head mold, weapon, pack and body. That alone puts Joe over He-Man in my eyes.

And no doubt gijoe has great articulation. the point at which they should have stayed. in fact it was joes articulation that i bested toys on after. and the main reason why i didnt care for starwars too much. i hated that they didnt sit. but again this was after motu. so they stand alone. and theres some thing so very perfect about the look of the motu figures that excuse them from the articulation rule. in fact when they tried to be like gijoe and added articulation and normal body types i was really pissed as a kid.

They do look good and were well made. That can't be denied. He-Man that is.
Well I guess both lines, with the exception of the cursed Joe thumb.

This is what happens when I get bored, a blast from the past.
I voted for G.I. Joe because there is no way He Man was twice as good as G.I. Joe.
He Mans pros are the people at mattell had great imaginations on how they could do diffrent figures. Moss Man, Grizzlor, both awesome in the way they feel. Oh and the action features genarally made sense to make the toy more fun. I remember when I was buying the first couple series of Toybiz X-Men I kept thinking just drop the spec. feature its making my toy less fun (especially you colossus)
Joes pros are the awesome articulation and the fact that I had more fun with them. They allowed me to stretch my imagination a bit more. From the standered milatary skirmishes they were inteneded for. To setting them up a wrestling match using a cushion for a ring (I always wanted a line of wrestlers as a kid with joe articulation, but all we had was LJN rubber guys-awesome- and those one with special features by somebody else) to if we went somewhere and I only had one joe he be on some brave mission climbing a mountain. Oh and joes were easier to bring with you. They fit in your pocket. He mans not much good without a baddie to slap around.

I voted He-Man because of my loyalty but as an adult I think I have more appreciation for the joe line. He-Man would destroy any joe in a fight though, obviously.

MOTU, I liked how unique looking some of the figures were (I mean, there's NOTHING that looks like Mosquitor or Spikor or Modulok or Snout Spout, etc.) plus they all had an action feature.

They both have to be my favourite toy lines when I was a kid along with Dino Riders. I voted GI Joe just because it's the toy line I collected for the longest.

Reading this thread over again I think I know why I liked He-Man better as a child and joes better as a young adult. The answer is.... Testosterone. I liked He-Man for the pure beauty of the show and figures. Later I think I needed more of an outlet from my toys in my pre-teens, due to testosterone I'm sure. Joes had machine guns, missiles and bombs while He-Man had swords, battle axes and spells. He-Man was awe inspiring and joes were badass. Just my take on the psychology behind the lines lol.

I vote for Joe especially for their superior articulation & better figure/vehicle interaction. While i appreciate the Greatness of the MOTU line, i personally never saw the appeal of muscle men in tiny shorts.

I'm for MOTU... purely cos it's where I am nowadays. I started with MOTU (totally magically smitten), then Joe-fever took hold for all the obvious reasons (more serious /size /poseability / quantity) when I was older, taking playing more seriously, and believe me I loved the Joes, but I went back to MOTU as a 'dult. It's just more fun!!

I actually like both...just because they represent two totally different things AND because they are two totally different styles of toy! As a kid I LIKED both but if I had to pick one, it'd be Joe simply 'cause they were just generally better (hey, I had more Joes, so I guess that stands for sumpthin') as playthings...yet MOTU had a major fun factor and the figures were so damn sturdy! I lost interest in MOTU simply because it went away and Joe did not. Flash forward to the internet age and semi-adulthood...I "rediscovered" both toy lines (as I did with many toy lines) and became re-fascinated with both on different levels. MOTU was totally more kitschy but that became the draw for me as an adult...I loved the kitsch factor and that olde timey fun factor as well. Joe, I still loved 'cause of the expansive set of characters and gear I loved as a kiddo. Storywise, I can give two expletives! I "accept" the stories behind the two to a point, but it's about playing and making up your own little world. The cartoons, comics, and movies are only a springboard to me...to this day. Right now, I still have a crap-load of Joes (actually had to sell off some, I had so many) and a bunch of MOTU stuff as well. I continue to collect both in some way, shape or form. I really couldn't decide on one favorite since to me they (once again) are just both so different!
