Hello guys,
I've been away for awhile because my collecting habits have changed.
I mostly collect plastic army men, diecast cars and random other bits and bobs. I've visited this website every now and again to read a few post, but I kinda missed it.
I know Im not a super frequent poster here with tons of content, but I'd like to frequent here a little more. Life be willing.

Welcome back!
I like the older army men. I have some older Matchboxes and collected Pixar Cars for the first three or four years, but there are only so many Lightning McQueen's and Mater's you can take.

It's been ages since I logged in here. I've been away for a few years doing life stuff, I'm sure everybody on here knows how that goes. I also got sucked into a new hobby: playing MMO games like World of Warcraft and Star Wars the Old Republic and I'm sure I don't have to tell anyone how time consuming that can be. But lately, I've been revisiting my old collection and got the collecting action figures fire back a little. I also dusted off my chap mei forum admin account and cleared away some spam there. Unfortunately photobucket went paywall so they seized all my pictures. I'm still sorting out where I left the originals but it's like two or three PC crashes ago. Anyhow, I hope there are some folks of the old gang who still stop by and remember me. I missed you all!

It certainly doesn't! But I seriously am amazed by the price increase I've seen on most 80s and 90s lines. It's pretty incredible. I've been out of the game for a few years and some pieces have basically tripled in value. Maybe the market's hot right now, maybe MOTU Origins has sparked interest in 80s MOTU and that in turn sparked interest in ANYTHING 80s.

Things started getting out of hand when people had to start staying home and got bored. They searched the internet, saw things at high prices that they thought they absolutely needed, did not research and got into bidding wars over and since then it has spiraled out of control.

I hadn't even thought of that. That is definitely a possibility too. I have to be glad I picked up some good pieces when prices were still reasonable and not completely crazy. That said, anybody want to trade a TMNT Scratch to me?

It is difficult enough to find something I need, let alone paying a fortune for each one.
It does make me wonder about how many of the collectors that have stashed their collections years ago would now be willing to part with portions of them now that the prices are as high as they are if they knew the current prices.
I also wonder about how many who parted with them 5 - 10 years ago are lamenting the potential losses they sustained by not holding onto them and settled for less because they wanted out quickly.

I took a look at some of my old sale pictures that were still on my old drive and had to wince a little at what sort of things I was asking a euro for and not more - stuff like very basic He-Man figures go for a lot more now. It's sort of fun to see. A lot of folks here were into a lot of obscure lines and that drove up the prices back then. I wonder now that some of the big guns are no longer searching them actively what that meant for the prices on those. Maybe it's just small time dealers who still have some vague recollection of how they used to be 'worth something' that keep prices up. If anyone is still reading, how many of you are 'new' collectors to the obscure oddball lines?

There's a lot of crazy price stuff happening with vintage games in regard to value increases. I've been reading accounts of collectors being approached by fellow collectors "requesting" they increase the asking price for video games they're selling. So as to bring the general acceptable value up. To some ludicrous amounts usually. I say 'requesting', but 'pressuring' would be the word. Nice to see ya back Ghouldrool, your contribution to online Chap Mei knowledge is still referenced far and wide.

Maybe if we all start posting more people will start reading. There's life in these old boards yet! I've cleaned up my Chap Mei forum too, there was a LOT of spam there in the years I was off. Can't believe I let it get so bad. And yeah, the reason I made that forum was there WAS no catalogue for Chap Mei lines. There still isn't one, nor is CM itself the paragon of information because their site really leaves something to be desired and distribution still is all over the place. Also, you have a great collection Rihia. You have a Megator! You're rich!

I still have all of my Atari games. You mean they are worth more than $2.00 now? LOL. I have Playstation 1 and 2 games if you mean more recently. It is hard to find televisions you can hook them up to anymore. I still have my board games from childhood as well. It would be nice if they had some value as well. My kids did not really get into them and the grandkids are too young to treat them right and not destroy or lose pieces from them.

There's a lot of money in old Hero Quest boardgames, at least.

Just chiming in. God, I think if I sold my collection right now I could retire with the prices where they're at! On the other hand, when I started collecting I bet those collecting longer were surprised at the 'high' prices some were willing to pay. I still collect the oddball lines, just a lot harder to come by now. I've always been 2 things-cheap and patient.
Almost everything I got from trading and buying here is still in my collection-like the Turly Gangs and Scareglow I got from Frank!

I'm glad to see that some of the old gang are still kicking around. Also really brilliant that you're still collecting too. I've only just got back in the game myself but I kept all of my collection. Just a lot less purchases and toy hunting. On the other hand I have been collecting DVDs like crazy. With the coming of streaming platforms people are basically throwing them away. More, as they say, for me! And I also noticed prices are CRAZY. Like, really mad. Apparently we're all rich now, seeing as we kept all the good stuff hoarded away and demand shot up like a firecracker. It's good to be back!
