Well, the closest TRU near me(a 2 hour round trip) is on the list of store closings. This saddens me mainly due to collecting memories as I used to go to the store quite a bit. However, it won't really impact what little collecting I do anymore as I might get down to the store once a year and they don't really have much I want anymore anyway but it still is kind of a bummer. I wasn't surprised that store was on the list of closings as all the other stores outside of Wal-Mart and Target that carried figures in this area went out of business two years ago or longer.

I know, it's very sad. I just cannot understand why Toys'R'Us are in Financial troubles. Don't children play with toys anymore? What is going on? In my childhood, there were plenty of toy stores everywhere. They closed one by one over the years. What exactly is going on?

Toys R Us ran out the smaller and Mon & Pop toy stores and now they are getting blown out by Amazon and other on line retailers.

But when we buy online, we pay catastrophic shipping prices! Stores may have a little less choice, but at least, we don't pay prohibitive shipping costs when we buy there!

I think the retailers have a hard time competing against a virtual "store" where you can be sitting in bed or something like that and order what you want. Some prefer the physical appeal of looking at something in your hands before purchasing it but where I live buying figures outside of those stocked at Wal-Mart is not possible.

I remember going to a decent sized toy store called "Toys By Roy", about the era of the 3.75" Mego figures from Star Trek TMP. Back then I wasn't really aware of prices although my Dad was doing models back then and he said the store was a little high on their prices. The store was in business until Toys R Us came to town. It may have lasted a year after that.

I can't help but wonder if this isn't the same kind of ploy Hostess pulled when they threatened the end of the Twinkie. Everyone is rushing out to every Toys-R-Us in existence to buy shit. Ethically questionable marketing plan?

Although it's supposedly just in the talking phase, a company is toying with the idea(excuse the pun)of bringing back KB Toy stores with possible plans to have some open by Christmas. I'll believe it when I see it.

Checked out a couple of TRU in Manhattan a couple of days ago and one on Long Island yesterday. Although proclaiming discounts up to 30%, most stuff, including all action figures, is just 10%. They have a long way to go before I start considering scooping up in quantity. One employee thought that total closure might be June 30.

I thought about making a run to the nearest TRU before it closes but honestly they don't really stock anything I am into collecting right now.

All true, and kind of sad. People are looking out for price points and quality(I'm looking at you Hasbro). The kiddies don't seem to want traditional toys in numbers like they used to and the collectors have to turn to kickstarter campaigns to get what they want while paying even more than they would for the same items at retail.

I do not think that I would ever pay the prices they charge for Lego sets. The small ones are okay, but I will not pay $70 - $100 for them when 1,000 pieces probably cost $1.00 to make and there are cheaper alternatives. Kids lose interest too fast in them after a week anyway.

I could hardly believe some o' the prices printed in the aisles.

You guys killed toys for everyone with your dang unwillingness to buy $200 Lego Death Stars that fall apart whenever there's a strong draft from moth wing movement. For shame!

But if they made it 6” scale and it was 2 grand I’d be all over it. Might be divorced soon after, but I am willing to accept that.

Ah, Toys by Roy. They had two in Wichita in the 80s. I remember one selling Mexican jumping beans or something similar.
