I hope it doesn't go bankrupt. I took my four-year-old son there last week and I have to say that the experience is still the same at least for a little ones. Something I noticed is they had a lot of different toy lines on the shelves but only one or two figures from each line. As if they hadnt stocked the shelves in months. I actually worked at toys R us back in 2005 for a few months before finding a better job. There was never any emphasis put on what exactly was stocked from each genre. But I know that is what gets adults coming back. My son likes a few different Lego themes. He wanted a Lego Bat wing. I grabbed it and this other little boy looked at me like I just took it out of his hands. I look back and it was the only one on the shelf. Pretty sad.

Yes, I hope it does not go bankrupt.
with Hastings! closing all the good & fun walk-in shopping experiences are leaving us.
All started with the closing of Arcades (still there may be some around, but not a lot)
& saw on Bill Maher the other night they are talking about closing (of course already happened around) Shopping Malls.
It is a sad state when people do not like to enjoy the experience of mingling in crowds and the in-person shopping experience.

I Love and miss KB Toys. I remember I would get my Video Games there. They were behind the counter/registers. I loved how they were displayed. Then the action figures and you can look around and find different kinds of toys throughout the store. The Aladdin Sand and board games. I remember the figures were all over the place and you just had to search them out Yes, I miss KB Toys a lot.

galaxystarshooter Yeah, I remember it kind of being a mess in there, especially towards the front. They had tables up front with all kinds of battery-operated things bumping into each other, like weasel balls or whatever they're called. Then there's be a bunch of bins with stuff on clearance like Little Dracula figures and Tacky Stretchoid Warriors--stuff that was like 3 for $10 or 2 for $5 or something. Stuff that might have been around for 3-5 years. There was maybe 3 or 4 aisles in all the ones I'd ever been in and usually the figure aisle was right in the middle. Peg warmer city usually but you could sometimes find some of the more desirable figures and whatnot. I never really went to the mall much as a kid, so it was sort of a special occasion to go in and look at stuff. I don't really remember ever buying much at KB though.

thor, I like your avatar pic of the ol' Super Powers Braniac with the bluish background. Good stuff. Thanks. And for the record, I always thought Lionel Kiddie City was a million tiimes better. I don't think there was ever a Kiddie City in my area, or my parents wanted it kept a secret if there was.

I'm sure there was a time or two I had the same excited look at a toy store that your kid has in the pic you posted. Of course that tended to still be the case into my 30's.

Thanks. And for the record, I always thought Lionel Kiddie City was a million tiimes better. I don't think there was ever a Kiddie City in my area, or my parents wanted it kept a secret if there was. I remember Kiddie City having a lot of knockoff stuff right in the aisles with the the official product, like Imperial next to He-Man or whatevs. Then there was bins of tons of cheapo shut the brats up dollar stuff like rubber bats and friction robots up front. I was easily captivated being a young'un and all, but my memories account for something kind of glorious.

Well, it actually has happened but they are apparently still keeping their stores open. I'll have to admit even at the peak of my collecting heyday(1997-2001)TRU was one of the last stops I would make if I had any money by the time I got there anyway. I never seemed to buy much there as they were more expensive than any place else and/or I would have already found the items I was looking for before TRU would get them. I imagine a lot of stores(just not TRU)are having a hard time competing with online shopping when you can order stuff you want while laying in bed in your pj's.

I think we all knew it was coming eventually. I would have thought they would announce it after Christmas if it was not a very profitable season.

Yes, Sad Sad Day.
It will be sad as well when traveling to out of town on Vacation/Trips and have Toys R Us not be there. I would always find something different which my local Toys R Us would not have.

Well, it seems it has indeed folded up, although they are already planning to relaunch it. In Spain and some other countries I think it will keep operating. Definitely I think it was bad management and not adjusting properly to modern times.

As of June 21, 2019, the company plans to open new stores in the US slated to be 10,000 square feet, roughly a third of the size of the big box brand that closed last year.

It would be nice to have a place to buy some of the figures that are basically online only so you could actually see them first but then that always leads back to the speculators getting there first that ruined the hobby, at least for me, in the first place. Also, they would probably open them only in large cities that I am far away from if I had to guess. With maybe a few pop up locations during the holidays.

It is gong to be interesting if the box stores finally go out, and I mean things like Kohls and Best Buy as well. I hate buying anything that I cannot see and touch to see how it was made and how well it was made. I do not like buying things blind.

They are talking about a TRU return for Christmas here. Hopefully this is like the loss of Hostess some years back. They came back strong....
