I have three wrestling type figures that are marked SOMA on the insides of their knees but have no other markings. The are wearing capes that are metallic and have one color on the inside and one color on the outside. They also have some type of bands around their calves. The are built like HeMan figures and are the same size. They all three have pants on and wrestling boots. They also have makeup face paint on and some have tattoos on their chests. Any help in identifying this line would be appreciated.

well theres not much to tell you really. they were made by some and are common soma molds from fantasy world. these usually sold through woolworths and other low price department stores like t.s.s. it's awesome that you have them in nice shape! i cant remember the name of the line but it was a really simplistic name. ive had a few of these in the past few years but moved them along to other collectors. they mostly find themselves in lots of he-man or generic toy lots. and never with theyre stuff. check out the thread about fantasy world here actionfiguresca.proboards43.com/index.cgi?board=Cartoons&action=display&thread=1127081789

Cool wrestling figure line. Looks like these guys were put out in 1991, would have thought they were older than that.

Just picked up a set of these guys with their belts, but was wondering if anyone who has MOC versions of these guys can help match the right belt to the proper figure? The MOC pics above seem to have all different style belts than what I have. Could also use Jacky Lade's robe if anyone has one kicking around.

They were packaged with diff belts, the first ones were decal belts with the knee pads the later ones were printed belts. The ones pictured may actually be different from the ones I have also. I'll go investigate. Get the right robes on the guys Chad, it makes me sick looking at them all mis-matched.

I have piping hot information for everyone. I finally got my dirty lil' hands on a carded Soma wrestler, original issue! Woo! I have only seen release info for these guys as being from 1991, which seemed weird... But this guy is clearly labeled 1985, so that is one of my many, many Soma questions put to bed finally. Dig it; Further, for some weird reason someone has written a date in marker on the back...7/16/86 And finally, makers mark and date.

Blue Berry??? Yikes. What an unfortunate wrestler name.

Was thinking the name was based on Owen Harts Blue Blazer, but it looks like it may be the other way around as he went by that name years after the figures were out.

These and the Sparkle wrestlers are the only "bootlegs" that I really collect. They seemed to be the most well-made, had the best accessories, etc.
I started with these after finding Blue Berry in a dollar bin at a show. No accessories, but I love him because if he had blonde hair, it would be the closest thing to an "Exotic" Adrian Street figure. What's funny is that last spring, in a bucket of wrestling figure treasures that I got off of Craigslist, Blue Berry's jacket was in there.

He's a wrestler guy made by Soma in the 1980's up the the very early 1990's, packaged as either World Champion Wrestler (which came around 1985) or World Wrestler (that line seem scarcier). Those line were re-use of the Fantasy World molds (a Masters of the Universe knock-off line made by Soma - notice the barely hidden bracelet, gladiator boots, fur speedos and belt) with a wrestling theme. Are the details on the chest supposed to be hair? Pretty hillarious.

Are the details on the chest supposed to be hair? Pretty hillarious. Yeah, I sorta' wonder about those chest deets too with the Soma wrestler dudes. Hair? Scarification? Tattoos? I guess it's up to you. That detail design completely works with Soma characters from 'Fantasy World' however, ie. Fantastar chest is painted as armor & Dragonman is, well, a dragonman.

I suppose it could be roman style armor that looks like a bare chest but the flesh tone color makes it look pretty weird. I think Nizard and Black Mask look really cool from whichever Soma line those characters came from.

Definitely some lazy reuse of molds on Soma's part. I love those goofy, but unique Fantasy World figures though.

Blue Berry??? Yikes. What an unfortunate wrestler name. Was thinking the same thing. I had two or three of these from a flea market in the late 80's, never knew much about them, this was a great read and great pics of info. Anyone else find it ironic the brand name was also the name of the drug that killed many wrestlers in the late 90's/early 2000's. :/

Picked up a carded one today, branded for Woolworth's. Had the same artwork as joeybones picture above, but the lower left hand corner was marked Woolworth's instead of Soma.
Thanks for the info all.
