I just wanted to say that I've always hated velcro.

Figurecollector, if I saw any trace of a complaint in your comment it was minor, justified and certainly not aimed at me. Rihia2k, if you think what I’ve posted so far is mind-blowing I still have a long way to go before I run out of material. I have 17 volumes of Hong Kong Toys running from 1977 to 1994. Rough calculations put the total page count at at least 11,650! I’ve systematically gone through 5 of those volumes which leaves me with around 9,000 pages yet to peruse. And that’s just the Hong Kong title! I still have a ton of U.S. trade magazines that need to be checked out. What’s more, I haven’t posted all the robots and science fiction vehicles from those 5 HKT yet! So, it will be a while before I start scanning the next wave. Yes, some of the material I’ve posted has been obscure and/or eclectic. I’ve found plenty of ads that tickle me, but that I consider too far removed from the realm of this forum. There’s more than enough to post as is! Why am I doing this? Well, I’m 72 years old and I’ve been collecting all sorts of stuff for as long as I can remember. (Believe it or not, I still have my first stuffed toy rabbit.) I have decades' worth of toy and hobby magazines filled with treasures and wonders. If I don’t share and archive some of this, what was the point of hording it all? I’m hoping to spread knowledge and generate some smiles. I’m trying to justify one of my obsessions. Waywardmonk, I did post a lot of these MOTU KOs with you in mind and I’m happy that you are enjoying them. Do I do requests? Sure, but it could take a while to find most of the specific lines you asked about. (Check the page numbers mentioned above!) However, I did remember seeing an Overtop Man ad in the 1994 HKT and was surprised at how quickly I was able to pinpoint it. Hope this will hold you for a while. Thor Laserpunch, I’m sorry that you’re not one of Velcro’s captive admirers. But you have to admit that their ad is cute, right?

Oh wow, starrunn, that Overtop Man ad!! It's as fabulously cheesy and cryptic as the lines themselves! Overtop Man vs Dinsosaur!?!?! in front of a castle with knights?? What does it mean?? Ahhhh!! So cool! Thank you for finding & sharing that rare piece of arcane insider advertising!

Whoa, that is ponderous! Is this line supposed to be like characters from some Street Fightery type fighting game?

Yeah, it's basically a Street Fighter/Hasbro WWF hybrid knock-off.
Hmm just noticed they gave the Hawk's axe to the Bull instead of his baseball bat.

Were Road Blasters ever released?

Oh wow, I have a few figures that share the same mold as those MRobots. So cool to see something official about them!

Figurecollector, although I don't remember ever buying any, the Matchbox RoadBlasters were released. There are lots of them on eBay, with many of them sporting Kay Bee price stickers. Apparently there were two releases, with 8 vehicles in the first batch and an additional 8 in the second wave.

I seem to remember when it seemed everything had a Smurf connection. I just did not seem to think it was that long ago. Now I see why they appeared everywhere.
I probably would have liked those Flintstones figures considering how much time I spent watching them. I was just a bit older than what I would have considered an appropriate age at the time and now here I am collecting toys all these years later.

I always did (and still) love the linework in Peyo's original Smurfs artwork. Early 80s we had Smurfs promo-figures released here at BP service stations. The quality of those figures was just excellent.

You never fail to surprise me, StarRunn. There is likely no other way I would stumble across a Koon Yip wind-up scuba diver I had in the 80s. It's great that you incorporate a lot of obscure toy company material along with the well known big players. Your work really helps to put the 'archive' into Action Figure Archive's title.

Rihia2k, many thanks for the kind words. While I’ve gone pretty far afield from action figures with these ads, I’ve often wondered and worried about how far removed I can go. The wind-up tub toys were off to the side and on hold for a long time. But, as long as I made one person happy, I guess I made the right choice posting them! As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, my current stockpile of scanned toy ads is just about exhausted and I’m using up some odds and ends before starting to scan more ads from a fresh batch of magazines. I start this batch with some space stuff. The bit on the UFO Wonder Car isn’t an ad; it’s a report based on a press release. This next ad is not from an industry trade magazine. It might seem to have come from a comic book, and it might very well have appeared in some, but I found it in a regular consumer magazine. I think that Pac Toys gave what was left of Mego, including the Micronauts, its last shot at retail. You would think that Soma’s advertising would showcase the action figures that they produced over the years, but this simple, general piece is the only Soma advert I’ve found so far! Finally, here’s an ad that I’m including not for its subject matter, but because of its design. This is a full page Steiff ad made to look like a half-page ad with the giraffe extending into an article above it! Well, it might be a while until I get some new ads put together, but there will be more. I started this thread just over a year ago. In that time, I’ve posted (if I’ve counted correctly) 426 advertisements. Add in the extra illos, multi pages for some ads and all the close up details, and the total comes to almost 500 separate images! I’ve had a great time putting this all together and I’m very pleased with the comments and the number of views this thread has generated. Thank You.

So much win on this page. Some faves from the last few batches: pullback futuristic trikes with sea horse and eagle heads and the rider looks like a rubbery Other World shirtless underpants guy, Rocky vs. Clubber Lang rock 'em sock 'em fighters, Creata ad showing a rhino-ey robo-walker with two different sized figures in the cockpit and saddle.

Photobucket strikes again, the rat bastards. There was so much win in this thread and the coloring book thread, among many others. That really sucks.

The Internet is a library. Photobucket has really messed up a lot of information across the net. A lot of threads out there across a range of topics, not just toy boards are useless without pics.

We have never heard from you, StarRunn, about whether you are going to attempt to revive your photos from this thread. Believe me, I know how time consuming it is. It took me about 45 hours to restore mine.

The loss of content in this thread is terrible. I can't imagine how many hours of hard work it took StarRunn to share all those photos with us.
