OK I collect a VERY large spectrum of toys mainly from the 80s a bit from the 90s but if there was a toy line that had a playset to go along with the figures than I'm as good as sold on it! I love displaying my figures with their respective playsets as opposed to just shelves full of figures, now I know a lot of people shy away from the playsets for a handful of reasons whether it be price or the amount of space they take up or any other reason but my question I'd like to get you guys and girls opinion on is where do you stand on it? In my opinion if your buying ghostbuster's, well they look way cooler in the fire house! Or Adam power may look good on a shelve buy he looks ten times better when he's inside volcan rock! Playset for me is top priority and thus far the only one that seems to allude me constantly is the Eco monster castle!!! But I will keep searching as always! So let's hear it collectors what do you think? And feel free to mention your favorite playsets

I feel the playset is the crown jewel of the collection. I have castle grayskull, snake mountain, the ice castle, the hyve, volcan rock, the cats lair, and the eco monster castle. I have them all on display to. I'm still on the fence about eternia, I'll probably cave in and buy it this year.

Oh man am I jealous of you obtaining the monster castle. Well played sir! I do have every other one you listed and eternia but my eternia is far from complete but I opted to spend 150 on it instead of 800 so I'm OK with it. All the main parts are there but no track or flag or latter or gargoyle or chains but the towers were worth it to me! But you hit the nail on the head they are the crown jewl

I do not have an aversion to playsets but as stated in the beginning of the thread, space is a concern for me. Cost is not a major concern for me, not because I am wealthy, but because I am unable to collect vintage lines due to cost. I enjoy photographing figures in their corresponding playsets if possible.

I have trouble with photobucket but PM me your email and I'll send you some pics and tell you an easy way to score one, I paid $220 shipped for mine from Germany. The last one that sold in the US I remember went for around $500.

Space & money are big reasons that I don't really have any large playsets anymore. Life changes gave me little room to display them and less "fun money" to buy them with so... In the end, I decided the figures were what I really loved. I do also remember as a kid I had a lot of vehicles & playsets, but I only played with a couple of them consistently. I often just built "sets" with my legos and had more fun with that, so I don't miss the playsets too much. I was also just thinking that my son has had a number of playsets for his toys that he hasn't used so much. Mostly he plays with his toys in the "landscape" of the house and his imagination.
There have been a number of very cool playsets made in the past though. Modern playsets are nothing in comparison.

I love playsets and always try to add to them. I do not collect vehicles for all the reasons you said, just figures and playsets.

I am the same way with the vehicles, unless there is only a couple in a smaller toyline like inhumanoids I did get those 2. But most I don't bother going after, nowhere near enough space for all of that. Also if there is a vehicle that is a major part of the toyline then I will also get that like the thundercats thundertank or tmnt van

playsets were essential to me. i had castle grayskull and snake mountain, the ewok village...dagobah, the imperial attack base, a few others....playsets made easily defendable bases for star wars and gi joe figures to protect themselves from the larger he-man figures (who were always giants from another planet) or the smaller figures had to storm the castles....or it just gave gave the smaller figures something to fight among themselves over....when the shogun warriors showed up they were all dead ducks anyway and had to join together in a common cause. my childhood wouldnt have been anywhere near as much fun without playsets....but like alot of others space became an issue....i currently live in a little crackerbox apartment with nowhere to store large sets. its a shame really.....i miss them

Love em! Just like 3 3/4 I hate vehicles, except star wars. I really want a mad scientist lab, but the only one that I know of is from the Toonslyvania. As it says, it's kind of cartoony, which is not the best for me. I'm so mad that they never made a Toxic Crusaders playset. The vehicles are so cool, but I still don't like them. I recently found out chapmei did a jungle playset a few years ago that I MUST HAVE. Here's a cool one I don't know if people know about. It's from Scooby Doo. The toys in the line vary, but it can scale for 3 3/4. I waited a year for it to clear out at TRU and got it for $6.

Yeah I recently picked up the whole toonsylvania toy line in one shot and was pretty unimpressed so I don't even display them. Thought they looked kinda neat and I was running out of toylines to buy playsets for so I gave it a shot but oh well win some loose some lol my nephews will have fun with them at least

playsets are great if you have the space for em, one of my favorite childhood memories was of a friends basement whose dad went the extra mile for him. He built train like tables with green painted lumber and had all the MOTU playsets set up including Eternia with the working monorail, I remeber it so vividly as you could actually walk under the monorail as there were walk ways between the tables and a working draw bridge you could close, it was amazing! I'll never forget that as long as I live. Also he-man was always my favorite, mostly the villains though, i didn't dig meat head he-man.
Also my cousin had almost every star wars figure and playset there was, when we would visit for family gatherings I always marveled ad the rancor and jabbas lair, even though not really a true playset or a large one they were always my favorites.
I currently own and run a toy store in PA and it's the best job in the world, I get to see all these great toys from my childhood and see them on their way to their final collectors homes, meanwhile not taking up the space in my own home. The wife is not a fan of action figures. lol.
Thanks for having a great website full of useful info, but as for the question at hand, hell yeah you gotta love the playsets specially the giant ones, maybe also marry a girl who also loves giant playsets as well! if you can find one of those out there, good luck to you all!

Playsets are a great way to make a collection stand out if you have the room. I had a few but after moving had no room for them so I sold them though I wish I could have hung onto them.
