When I first got into collecting knock-offs I started with the Remco lines and moved on to Galaxy Fighters/Warriors/Heroes. While searching for them I would occasionally see listings for Soma's Fantasy World line. From pictures I thought they looked very goofy. From Herocon & Fantastar's weird faces to the awkwardly bent arms and wide birthing hips, these figures just did not look cool... Until I got one in a lot of other knock-offs. These figures actually look much better in person and the varied designs and nice stiff legs were a welcome change from the Sungold/Sewco stuff. Not soon after I had to have them all. Piro is still one of my favorite figures.

Mighty Ducks. I saw these as being pretty lame, and while I can appreciate classic toony duck characters on screen, never had much interest in these until I picked up a thrift lot. Hands on, theyre actually quite entertaining and well designed. Sadly had to let my collection of these return to thrift-heaven for the sake of love, travel & space.

Kinda the same thoughts on this line, came across a few loose ones and liked the fact that they were hockey based figures. The line for me that I thought was kinda dumb was Crash Test Dummies, until I picked up a lot at a garage sale once and realized they are kinda cool (sorta...maybe I guess?)

Some of the Crash Test Dummies from the mid-2000's are part of my collection. I think they are cool because they crack me up. I remember one of the small carded vehicles I called a Target store that was a two hour round trip drive away from me to see if they had it as I was missing it and I made the drive just to get it.

I never did any of the 6" figures like ML or Star Wars Black Series, but now I have a couple of the Star Wars figures and I have a hard time putting them down. Every pose I put them in looks amazing.

Beast Wars. I always thought it was dumb for a robot to turn into an animal, then I though about the G1 stuff like Ravage, Dinobots, insecticons etc. Now I love me some BW.

Captain Simian & The Space Monkeys. I would say it has probably the dumbest premise ever, even for a cartoon show, but whom doesn't like monkey figures?

Yeah I avoided the show and toys when they were out - but man after watching that and Beast Machines, it's my favorite Transformers series by far. I have a real fondness in my heart for a lot of those toys. (Though a lot of them were pretty horrible.)

I'm having a hard time getting into BM toys. BW is about the only cartoon I can stomach. I think it's because there are no annoying humans in it.

Mummies Alive Fright Sight figs. I thought they were kinda dumb, but I finally got them cheap and really like them. Honorable mention to Dick Tracy and The Shadow. You can barely give 'em away MOC and they are both killer toy lines especially for the money.

I sort of liked the Mummies Alive! line and from what I've seen The Shadow is actually a cool looking line even if the movie tanked. One line that I thought was dumb and that never changed was Earthworm Jim. I only had Princess What's Her Name, even in my toy craze of the late 90's I just couldn't bring myself to buy any of the other figures in that line.

The Shadow was a movie? I thought it was a comic or toon. I also started EWJ with the Princess since she's so cheap she makes an affordable doorstop. I really like them, but I renctly got into Playmates big time.

From what I understand, The Shadow was first either a pulp magazine character and then there were Shadow radio shows(or maybe the other way around)in the 30's or 40's. There have been Shadow comics, my favorite was the short lived DC Comics series in the 70's. The figures are from the Shadow movie starring one of the Baldwin brothers as the lead character which bombed at the box office in the 90's.

Love The Shadow yeah '30's pulps and radio shows.(you can find them on youtube, pretty entertaining IMO) "Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!" "The weed of crime bears bitter fruit." - and all that. Few different voice actors but The Shadow was portrayed on radio by Orson Welles of Unicron fame at one point. Known for his freaky laugh (well, in those days) and his blazing twin .45s. He is very much in line with Lee Falk's 'The Phantom' and Will Eisner's 'The Spirit'. He's a playboy millionaire by the name of Lamont Cranston, with love interest/assistant, Margo Lane. Has the power to cloud men's minds. The movie is kind of forgotten now but I always thought it payed a nice homage to the source material. For how popular it was in the '30s I'm sort of surprised (and glad) they haven't released a new blockbuster for it since the '90s. As spockoda mentioned - some great DC comics released for this character too. When I met Howard Chaykin (ex-DC comic writer) it's basically all I picked his brain on. As much as I love this character I never did get in on the Kenner toys. I felt they were kind of generic and very much imitating Batman. Cool advertisement though - linkAnother character I loved but never bought the toys for was Turok released by Playmates. Anyone ever pick those figures up?

Captain Simian is a great cartoon, it's full of fun sci-fi spoofing and Shatner impressions. A big admission here - my answer's G.I. Joe: Real American Hero and Transformers (Generations 1 & 2) due to my general dislike of cars and the military but I'm finding more and more from the lines I like, I've grown especially fond of the Pretenders and the G.I. Joe Space-based stuff, and Deep Six.

I love playing Turok and I didn't even know they made figures until I found a complete one at a garage sale. He's looks perfect fighting Firesweeper from Duel Masters.

Just came upon a few Stone Protectors figures recently. I really like the look and design of them. I'll have to try hard to erase from my mind the few minutes of the cartoon I've now watched on youtube though.

My Little Pony, first generation. When I was seven or eight years old, I thought they were just sissy toys. It's only at the age of ten, when one of my friend made me discover them, that my opinion changed and started to appreciate their high variety of colors.

Gi joe sigma 6. I was dead set against the concept. None of it fit. Now I can't get enough of them. Some of my favorite figures now. They are just fun and cool and playable. A line cut too short.

Sigma 6 is a great answer. Like Beast Wars mentioned earlier it had the branding of a childhood favorite but was unfamiliar enough to keep a us old fogeys from bringing them up to checkout.
I don't know if this counts but Rock Lords was one for me. See I still think the concept is dumb but now that I have a couple I also am charmed.

Yeah, I never really got into transformers, but when I picked up some Go Bots in a lot I immediately liked them. The simple transformations and being in scale with Matchbox/Hot Wheels won me over. Neat little line.
