Í can say with 100% certainty that the plates where made by ECO just like the castle.
I've found the plates in grey not black packaged and the box was marked ECO. The grey plates where boxed for use as a generic moonlandscape.
We don't have actual proof that the black plates came with the castle and all the boxes I've seen where to small to fit the castle and 4 plates but often seeing them together with the castle and my find from above makes it more likely that these where released as some sort of battle ground to go wit the castle.
If I find time i'll get some pics of the boxed moonlandscape up.

Its tough to say as their really hasn't been many of these come into the market for sale to gauge what they would sell for. Maybe first see if he has a price in mind, and if not ask him for his "I Don't want to sell it" price and negotiate from their. Would be interested in one myself if you are able to acquire both. Good luck!

Don't know if i trust him fully yet If he brings them do inspect them closely. Look for cracks and splits, see if the hand attachment is there and has the original security peg, look if the eye is in place. All things that frequently are wrong with this puppy I have two myself. 1 in box and 1 loose. The loose one is missing its eye though, I replaced that with red paper and it looks ok. My castles both have a different color of green. These are fun playsets. Good luck in getting them

Depends, I've seen them go for 30 bucks. In the states they go for 100+.

I've never seen one go for $30, I'd jump on that. I paid $220 shipped for mine from Germany. I've seen only one in the US on eBay and went over $500.

Hi all,
I'm new here because I'm currently cleaning up my storage room and find lots of toys from my past. I found also one monster castle and a monster land set.
It seems that there are two versions of the monster castle: one "plain" version and one "electronic" one. My one has a built-in red light bulb where the red eye is and a clear bulb in the hand. There are simple cables with a combined switch ending up with two clips for a 4.5V flat battery. I've got this as a child brand new and I did not modify it on my own, so this is still 100% original.
I also have the four monster land plates and can confirm that they were sold separately. I've got all of them from a catalogue of a big mail-order house in the 1980s. They also sold Combo action figures and two vehicles there (one which I have never seen anywhere else). I thought these were new MotU toys (only shown unboxed in catalogue) and got all of them for Christmas and was quite disappointed that they were rip-offs.
So I think this indicates that the monster land was from the same company as the monster castle. They seem to be made from the same material too.
By the way: My monster castle is made of black plastic but on ebay I saw one made of dark green plastic (non-electronic version). Did you already notice that?
Regards, Nibbler

The green version of monster was on ebay with item number 111905000993. Find a pic of my monster land in the attachment. I haven't taken of photo of my castle yet, I found it after taking the photos of some other toys but I will add one as soon as I'm done with it. Attachments:

Hi, today I took some photos of my monster castle. It has two built in light bulbs, one of them made from red colored glass. The wiring is very simple, for the photos I used 2.4V (two 1.2V AA batteries) and connected them manually to the clips. Again, the castle came with electronics out of the box, no customization. The castle will go on ebay soon so don't be surprised if you see these pictures there again. ;-)

Hi, just for information if you ever wonder about the values of these items: My castle was sold on ebay for about $300 (going to the USA) and the monster land for about $55 (stays in Germany).

Ooh, that seems quite cheap to me. Are you happy with that price? I wanted to clean up my space and didn't want to leave it on ebay for months until someone buys it, so it was an auction to see where it ends. Another castle without electronics was sold for 10% less some weeks before. So I think, it was the current market value. For the monster land I had no idea what to expect. But as the number of collectors seems to be very low, I was happy to find at least one buyer who bought it for the starting price.

Also, thanks, nibbler for posting those images. The electronic version I don't believe I'd seen before
