I just picked up one of these DorMei ones at the flea market last weekend for $10. Didn't realize it was knockoff until I got home but for the price I was still happy.

i really dig the dormei & imperial godzilla toys. love the guadiness of them, and the wide variety of color schemes always keeps me interested/intrigued. above all, i want to score those gigan ko's! pink or yellow, both are acceptable to me (as long as none of the head horns/spikes are missing/chewed/broken!)....also, i have a dormei dino from '86 that is really f'n awesome! its got this back fin that is so big it doesn't stand up straight, but still good stuff! i'll try to get a pic of it soon.

Here we go...BOOTLEGS!!! Viva Mexico!!! ...I really shouldn't be cheering...probably toxic materials! Anyway, I finally snagged some bootleg versions of the 8-9 inch Godzilla and Gigan knock offs. Here we are...made of hollow, blow-molded plastic. Note that the Godzilla's arms and legs were also used on Gigan! Gotta love those sick paint apps, at the very least.

I'm not sure how I feel about knocks-offs of something as coveted as Godzilla but I will entertain the idea. Its true that sea green paint is pretty rad. I used to have several of the 8" Imperial ones growing up and wouldn't mind getting one again. Talk about bulletproof toys!

BEHOLD! I have scoured the Earth for this ancient knowledge...and my quest hath beared fruit! Yes, a blue version DOES exist. A-HA, I knew it in my heart of hearts. I had always wished to find and "odd" color scheme out there for these fake Godzillas. Usually you just see the red plain-headed dude and the greenish fin-headed guy. You do see weird variations and ones with rarer head molds. I had always hoped I'd find if a blue version of any of these Dor Mei or LEADWORKS guys was out there. Now I officially found one! I had seen a pic out there once in the vastness of the internet, but was not sure if it was real or some custom job. Well, I guess it's official. As far as I can tell...it's the real deal. Technically, he's fairly modern...on the foot you can see he's the 1997 version of the Dor Mei figures, but the tag says it's from 1999! Wow, must be gettin' old...maybe that ain't so modern. That was over a decade ago! I wonder what context this was released under. When was that stupid American Godzilla flick made, again? Released by some company called Toysmith...never heard of 'em. Did the old 80s Fraudzillas have tags? This guy is apparently called "Mega Monster"...ooooh!!! What small parts are kids gonna choke on? Not like you can pry its arm off and swallow it! C'mon! I wonder what other neat-o color schemes might be out there. *Eeeyuk*...and in case you're wondering why I have such grubby, dirty fingers...this long, extended Winter is murder on my dry skin...hard to clean my cracked skin and deformed nails without seering pain! I definitely got to have one of theses babies, might look in a thrift store

While we're at it......here's this little number...it's the ol' no-manufacturer Sharkfin Godzilla! This is the first time I've seen this knock off Godzilla toy mold used with the standard Imperial style Godzilla color scheme...I usually see this toy in maroon or blue-green as below: Here are the companion pieces to the Sharkfins...these neat Gigan ripoffs! Normally Gigan is supposed to have curved blades for hands and only one large pointy toe on each foot. He's also supposed to have one visor-like eye and more than one fin down his back. Don't let these mimics fool you! Maybe they can pass as pre-cyborg Gigans? I really do hafta bone up on my Godzilla mythos again...it's been years! Did Gigan ever really have an in-depth origin? Anyway, the Sharkfins and the fake Gigans are all about nine inches tall with rotating limbs and tails. I seem to remember Gigan having some sort of circular saw somewhere around the belly region. This one also seems to keep that trait, albeit more organic looking here. Quite an interesting find.

Another Chinese bootleg, this time it looks as though they've ripped off the 9" Imperial version. No date, just 'made in China' under one foot. Pic with genuine 6" Imperial Godzilla (I don't have the 9") for comparison I think I have another version of this 9 inch bootleg. Although there's nothing written on him and he's brown with orange dot on his head and white spikes. Really sloppy paint. Made from white rubbery plastic.

Condition is a large variable. We all know what a 7 year old can do to a figure (chew, color or break off a piece come to mind), but the best choice for a price is looking at the sold listings on Ebay.

I did take a look but underestimated the amount of various Godzillas! So I do know it's an 1986 Dor Mei version- thanks to the marks on its soles. I'll go take a look now. It's spotless, no marks dents etc. it was given to him by a neighbor and has sat on his shelf for the last couple of years.

Looking at this post again makes me wish I hadn't gotten rid of most of my Godzilla collection a couple years ago!
