That is a pretty good find. I picked up a Crusader shuttle at a yard sale last week.

I'm sure this wasn't cheap when it first hit the stores either. I couldn't imagine trying to build one up. I still haven't 100% completed my Terrordrome or MCC yet!!

I have a Defiant.A friend in California sold it to me for $200. (plus $80 for shipping)It was only missing a seat & the air line cord thing....Overall a great price for a great toy.Thing is, I just can't see how a kid could move this thing around very easily! It's heavy!

One Chrsitmas, my parents asked me for a list of stuff I wanted for Xmas. I added the Defiant, jokingly. I didn't seriously thought they'd buy it for me. They'd say to me: "Aren't you a little too old for TOS?" (I was 13 at the time) Come Christmas morning, a huge box was sitting in the middle of the living room (not wrapped, it was relatively wrappable) that was nearly as tall as I was.
They actually bought it for me.
The toy was everything you wanted in a playset/vehicle. The detail. The accessories. The sheer awesomeness.
I didn't have the obvious "bells and whistles" and cheap gimmicks that ruined most vehicles and playsets.
Over the years, I moved around alot. The toy didn't fare well over the years. The defiant got banged up in moves. It also gained dust from sitting in storage. And it lost some of its weapons and fins.
But the toy, while being the best of the GI Joe stuff, probably is the best of all vehicles/playsets in any line.
One of these days, I'll replace it with one in better condition.

I'll agree that the defiant is one of the best Joe toys out there.I have one that is 98% complete.

I'm right there with you. VERY sweet playset. I totally drooled over this thing as a kid. As much as I love the Flagg and the Terror Drome, the Defiant always held a special place in my heart. A few years ago I finally managed to pick one up and it was eveything I ever dreamt it would be. Perfect mix of playset and vehicle. "Sheer awesomeness" is a great way to put it. Sadly, I had to get rid of mine due to space issues. That and a buddy of mine kept bugging me to sell it to him I never really had a proper place to display it anyways and seemed like every time I tried to move it something broke or almost broke. One day, after I buy a house and can have a proper toy room, I'll get another one.

That's another thing, space. It's hard to store it. And if you move around alot, like I do, it can be a real problem.

This is one of the few Joe vehicles I actually remember seeing in the store. I got about 15 feet away from it when my grandma hurried me out of the store...that's the closest I've ever been to one Maybe one day, when I'm not paying bills so much, I'll finally get one

I recently picked up what I thought was the Defiant Space Shuttle, but the hatch doors and cockpit cover are black instead of white. Did Hasbro release a Defiant variant under another name?

That's the Crusader, a repaint/remold from just the shuttle of the Defiant Space Shuttle Complex. Here's it: www.yojoe.com/vehicles/89/crusader/

Make sure if you do sell it to disassemble it partially and package it really well, like bombproof. I've bought two of them over the years and both times they've been wrecked in shipping. It's such a heavy playset with a few weak spots that don't hold up well under the strain of the rest of the vehicle.

I do know that it is not complete, and I kindof don't want him to get rid of it just because it was more of a gift And its one of the holy grails, He is older than me and more into G.I.Joe than me. But he said I could trade it to get she-ra stuff, money or more g.i joe stuff for him. So im just seeing whats possible,

I've got one but it's pretty trashed! I had to rebuild the blue bay doors that were smashed to smithereens. I'm dreaming up a Defiant custom that will take years to complete. Both the shuttle and booster are yellow, and all the small bits are missing. still, you never see them here.

I wanted a Defiant or Mobile Command center. My parents went with the Mobile Command Center and some figures. At the time I thought that was aweomse.
Now when I realize I could get the Mobile Command Center and same figures for a quarter of what a complete Defiant would cost... I wish they had gotten me the Defiant.

Wow this thread was started 6 years ago?? Thats either cool or really really bad... ;D...!!
I guess I should mention I have one complete and in almost perfect shape. I have all the sticker sheets as well. I never put them on. A guy back east had one mint in box and a loose complete one. He sold me the mint in box one but kept the box. He took it out and built it first though. I also got payload and hard-top mint in bubbles and the blue prints.

I have a Flagg and recently saw a Defiant in person for the first time. It is impressive how big that thing is.

i have a defiant in pretty good shape, not 100% complete and 1,5 of the pilots
The thing is humongous and is posed on a table in my collection room
I only was able to buy since the seller lived near and i could go and pick it up. Paying for shipping that thing would have been too much for me since i would have had to import it from the States or so and pay a shit load on custom fees.
The moment i bought it i could allready resell it for more but didn't. Figured i would never get a chance to own one again.
My joes are happy, I'm happy

One thing that is cool about the defiant is that you have a place to stick all those dorky 90s joes in space garb. There are seats and computer works stations everywhere...I bet I could stick every space joe in and still have room.
If you ever get one watch out for the big blue doors a they are kinda fragile and can crack easy. I recently noticed I have a few cracks in mine and will have to track down some new doors eventually.
...nothing like a 6 years conversation about a 25 year old toy...

I only heard of the Defiant Complex when a toy store chain in the UK called Beatties (now defunct) had a flyer in my local store in the late 80s and was offering one or two as a competition prize, they mentioned on it that it was a USA/CA only item so very very special...If it had been released officially in the UK I doubt my late Mum would have bought me it as it would have been very expensive. However, she may have still got it for Christmas...she was like that. When I think of these massive Joe items like this one, the FLAGG, TERRORDROME or even items like the MCC, MAMBA, RAVEN, CONDOR etc in the line you have to realise that the Joe range was MASSIVELY popular and massively profitable back then - thats why Hasbro could afford to put out such increasingly larger items. You could say the same of Hasbro's rival - MOTU, they produced the ETERNIA playset in the 1980's too....I doubt toylines will ever scale such heights ever again - one reason is the price of petrolium and plastic is a derivative of that....Anyhow, its a cool looking toy but too large for an adult collector like myself, that and with all the parts needed I'd rather not spend on an incomplete one - a complete ones far too costly true, the shipping to the UK would kill and its bloody difficult to complete one if you buy an incomplete one on the cheap.

P.S. how long did it take (for those that owned it as a kid) to build and put the decals on when they received it for Christmas or whatever other special reason way back when? It used to take me ages to build my medium or large Joe stuff at Christmas and I used to make sure I got it all built and stickered back then before the day was out!
