It all started with G.I.Joe. I was an original army builder buying three of each army builder as they came out starting in about 1984. Now one or two of my Cobra troops number in the +100.
Now I am finding that I have this 'army building' bug in some of my other lines, whenever I see an army builder in any line I have an urge to get at least three of them.
Any other collectors have this bug?

Sure I buy a handful of the figures that I like, problaby the one type of figure I have the most of is the GI Joe Mortal Kombat Ninjas Scorpion, Sub Zero, Smoke, and Reptile. I have over 50 of these guys and they don't go cheap.

I've seen the siver Johnny Cage and the Movie Edition figures tend to go for alittle more on EWhore but I've never really checked a price guide. Does anyone here have a subscription or buys the toy guides on a regular basis?

I used to be an army builder, particularly with Star Wars Imperial troopers and officers. When G.I. Joe Cobra vs. Venom starting releasing those army building six packs, I fell into that too. With Transformers, I had to have each repaint of every Decepticon seeker type.
Truthfully though, it got to a point where enough was enough. I had so many armies (and so many soldiers) that setting them up alone was exhausting, nevermind justifying why each army was necessary in an all out battle royale. In the end, I overdid it. No more army building for me.

it happend like that for me too. it started with gijoe just wanted 3-4 of the troopers/officers, steel brigade, and a few vipers. but it started getting retarded ive tried to get rid of most of the viper types i dont care for too much :/ still have a few i could get rid of . but the bug spread in my other lines. foot soldiers from tmnt had to have 3, and oh yeah the mortal kombat ninjas also had to have at least 3 of each and the movie versions. in motu i have an army of fakers thats ever growing. i just wanted a gang of robots. but army building is the quickest way to run out of room

If I could go back and buy MORE of any one army building set, it would have been the Crimson Guard. I held back because I already had 12 of the basic Cobra Infantry, but the Crimson Guard is so much cooler (especially with the removable helmets).

When I was at the Pittsburgh toy show yesterday, venders were selling the Viper army building sets for $50 a piece. Apparently, they've become quite collectible.

I've got a gang of Cylon's and Storm Troopers. I also have 11 or 12 (3 3/4") Mork figures that I've picked up in misc. lots over the years (only 1 egg ship). They are kinda creepy. I expect to wake up one day and have been tied down by these Morks.

Yeah, army building started with the Joes for me. (my cobra forces are closing in on 3,500 figures right now...Not counting characters & Joes). I also started in with vintage Starwars storm troopers & a few other moder lines ( Indy, Terminator,& some modern SW.) What really took up a lot of my room was army building Joe vehicles...Figured if I had thousands of troops, they should have a way to be transported.

I hear you on the Joes, I had to lay off . I have about 5,000 and I don't consider myself a Gi-Joe collector not to mention a few hundred baller vintage carded pieces. Dont get me started on the 25th , I had to stay off Pisstank to keep myself from buying ppl parted out collections.

I like lines that only have one or two troop builders, like Super Powers and the Parademon. It would be cool to see a set up of all the Super Powers figures, plus like 50 Parademons swarming around! The same goes for the Horde troopers from He- Man. I also thought it would be cool to troop build Crystar, have the castle set up with tons of catapults, dragons, and troops fighting. Of course, that would get expensive!
