Just wondering who the most inacurate G1 Transformer figure is (based off the cartoon). I would have to go with Ironhide and Ratchet. Didn't think they looked like their cartoon counterparts at all. Wheelie was another bad one.

its not really fair to say that considering the toys existed first ironhide and ratchet were just power suits for micromen. the most disappointing guy that didnt exist first was swindle in the show he had an arm cannon like megatron but the toy didnt make it so his cannon fit on his arm that bothered me alot.

Reflector was another weak translation. All 3 robots didn't look like their cartoon counterparts.

well you'd have to blame sunbow for that as reflector existed before the cartoon so they just drew him wrong.

ratchet and ironhide gets my vote too. also jetfire jetfire was different due to copy rights robotech still owned the animated rights to the design preventing sunbow from drawing him like the toy ;D

if i remember correctly in the diaclone series, before the cartoons, ironhide and ratchet were just repair vehicles with no robot forms hence the toy looks. Please correct me if I am wrong.

well i do think its unfair to say the toys dont look like the toon since the toon was based on them(though in the case of ironhide/ratchet the toons made them look waaaay better) another inprovement the toon made was on starscream and the jets the robot modes on the toys kinda suck but rock on the show.

I agree, allot of the characters on the show were an improvement on the original toy designs. I guess it made better TV for Ratchet & Ironhide to actually have a face!

ummm maybe cause jetfire(the tiy at least) was from robotech thats why hes so different on the show exactly why he's different. due to the rights to the animated form of a veritech. transformers had no coice but to make him different. same happened with why the deluxe insecticons and roadbuster never got into the show the animated rights were still owned. but hasbro/marvel/sunbow did manage to buy the animated rights in the second season for some charaters like inferno. who was known as pheonix king and was along the lines of voltron in cartoon style.

No one mentions Megatron? Robot mode looks nothing like the cartoon version - I think they started at the gun & thought "How are we gonna make a robot out of that?"

Actually if you've going by bad figures, everything prior to 1987 and a good portion of the 1986 line should actually be off limits. Also in terms of Ratchet and Ironhide, people seem to forget that not only were they auxiliary mecha for Diaclone, but that the mold was one of the first 5 Transformers ever made/released (the other 4 being Sunstreaker and the Powerdashers). In fact, here's a pic of the Onebox mould in mecha mode, fully crewed (found here if it doesn't load www.diaclone.net/orid/dia037/03722.jpg ): I challenge anyone to think of this mecha the same way again after seeing that pic.

the most disappointing guy that didnt exist first was swindle Wrong, Swindle was originally a part of the unreleased Diaclone line, known as Jizzai Gattai, which comprised of Metroplex, the Stunticons, the Protectobots, the Combaticons and the Aerialbots. The design basically took the whole "Scramble Power" gimmick of the Scramble City line to the next level. Not only are each of the limbs interchangeable with each of the torsos of each combiner team, but any 4 of the limbs can combine with Metroplex in robot mode. Furthermore, ever wonder why Hot Spot, Motormaster, Onslaught and Silverbolt had those wonky 3rd modes that never quite made sense? They're actually all designed to combine with Metroplex in City mode. In fact here's a pic from the Scrambled! site showing what Metroplex's original combined city mode actually looks like:

Picture isn't loading for me but I just searched for it and my mind is blown. That picture of Ironhide/Ratchet is awesome too. I just recently transformed an Onslaught into that weird ramp mode and couldn't figure out why it existed. Thanks for shining some light on all that!
