Does anyone have pics of any Monster Man figures from Woolworth? Ive only seen Tree Man and Muck Man, and have a vague recollection of Fire Man from childhood. The rest of the line intrigues me!

Still regret selling off my carded tree guy in hopes of finding a loose one!
I doubt there are many folks out there who have a good amount of these...BUT...does anyone know if they made versions that ACTUALLY GLOW?! When do the lies stop and the truth begin *sob*?

There must be a date on the packaging material right? What's it say, Chad?

Just so happened to finally...FINALLY get my mitts on most of these. WHOO HOO!!! Well, I'm off from work today, and it's raining out in my neck o' the woods...sooooo why not jabber on about Soma/Woolworths MONSTER MAN figures some more, right? Here are five out of six of the guys, loose. I had the Tree Man (note that these guys never had official names) years ago in package and decided to be overly optimistic about finding a loose one so I didn't have to open a nice packaged sample. Hey, I eventually did get one...heh, heh. Love this dude. Don't wanna play favorites, but he's just tops! He has a bit trouble standing upright, but he is a tree man...he's not rooted! The Mud Man...or Slime Man, or Muck Man, or Sea Foam Man (or...uh...never mind *giggle*). I've seen him mixed in a lot of 80s toys on eBay years back when I still had my carded Tree Man, but failed to win it. I've seen him once before from a French seller who wanted multi-hundred dollars for him (if I remember correctly). Awesome, but not sell-your-own-kidney awesome. Now that I have one, I'd probably eat your kidney if you tried to kidnap him from his mud cradle deep within my inner sanctum! Boom-shaka-laka! He's on fire! Yep, here's Fire Man. Admittedly the weakest one, design-wise, but still sweet. Maybe Mud Man is just a melted Stay Puft Marshmallow Man who strayed too close to this guy's serpentine fire? Ah, Rock Man! I've seriously had three of these so far. Before you ask...my original got traded, and I'm holding onto my spare in case someone comes up with a blue Bird Man for tradesies. Personally, this guy seems to pop up all the time. I've seen him quite a few times for sale...four to be exact...and I've had three of them pass between my grubby paws. Weird. Love him...he's so mean-looking! The Lizard Man or Reptile/Dinosaur Man...unlike the other four, he and the Bird Man are the only non-elemental Monster Men. Hmmm? So kick-ass. I love a weird reptilian humanoid creature, don't you? Now... ...when it comes to knock offs, who doesn't love a good "DARE TO COMPARE"? Okay, some out there believe these guys are Inhumanoids KOs, while some believe they actually predate Inhumanoids. I dunno, since both came out in 1986. Either way, awfully coincidental. Magnakor from Inhumanoids split apart, next to the Fire and Mud Man figures. Rock Man and his Inhumanoids counterpart, Granok. And the ever-lovin' Tree Man and Redlen form Inhumanoids. The official SOMA stamp and 1986 date on each Monster Man figure's foot. Oddly enough, only the Fire Man I have has a "MADE IN CHINA" stamp on his back. The Lizard and Bird Man don't really have a (what I would consider) a proper, straight-up counterpart. At any rate, here's a back shot of the Tree Man and Lizard Man. I love the knots and cut-off limbs on Tree Man, and the Lizard Man has your classic spikey spine. The other dudes? What you'd expect. Since I have two Rock Man figures, I'd thought I'd show a comparison shot. Why? Variations?!?!? Yep, it seems there are at least two types...soft, pliable body ones and hard-bodied ones. Seems only the soft ones glow...the softies are also quite, uh, soft...you can easily pop some of there limbs off if you cared to do so. The soft ones also appear to be just a tad bigger in proportion. Neat, huh? I suppose you'd never know if you didn't have one of each together at the same time. I'm still trying to master the art of in-the-dark photography, so sadly I do not have a nice shot of the four ones that actually glow... actually glowing. Trust me...they're nice. I flicked on a strong desk lamp and gazed at them all night last night until I drifted off to Slumber Land. Woke up around one-ish...and BAM...glow time, baby! Such power. Here's a nice parting shot...a Soma action figure rumble! Now I just need a blue Bird Man, and maybe... just maybe I can find inner peace.

Got the Bird Man...not too shabby! One of those moments you just can't believe. At least I can rest easy now. Like the lizard guy, he's the only non-elemental guy. He's bluish green. You can see what may be ribs jutting out of his chest as well as degenerated wing remnants on his arms. His evil smirk is comparable to that of the Tree Man in pure evil. Reminds me of a toothpaste slathered Skeksis from Dark Crystal! Also, I assume he's a he since the line is called "Monster Man"...but check out those Loreal lashes! Easy, breezy, beautiful! Oop, that's Cover Girl...never mind. Maybe it is a girl? The X-Men are, like, mostly female. Then again, people still think Tweety from Looney Tunes is a female...even though he's a guy. Maybe this Bird Man is just effeminate. Something you don't get with those monster types. Here's what may be the only picture on that there internet of the whole gang out and about: They like doin' what they do best...destroying humans! Once, and for all! BWA-HA-HA-HAHAHAHAHA!!! Burrrrrrrrrrrn............

Haven't been following loose prices myself, but outside of this forum not sure if anyone else really knows about this line. Got my carded ones pretty cheap quite a few years back.

COOL figures! They aren't made as pretty as most figures today but they are fun. Figures like these are fun to stumble upon online, at flea markets, garage sales, etc.

Yeah okay, these are awesome. I recall seeing them at Woolworths, I think, but never snagged any that I recall. Definitely wish I had a couple these days.

We didn't have a Woolworths but we had a Woolco. Loved that store, tons of knock off toys.
