here are two of my favorite rubber lizards. frilled lizards are one of my favorite animals, and these cheesy 80s "open jaw" versions are perfect. the one in running stance is the best one. i'd love to find the frilled lizard from the warrior beasts line. I own the standing one!!!!

Straight from 1977 comes this guy...a weird uggo horned toad? Dragon? Mutant dinosaur? Maybe all three!!! About eight inches long with the classic hollow gullet. Made by Imperial of course. I'm pretty sure they made this guy in other colors. Did this mold ever get resized? Also, did it have any similar companion pieces? HALP!!! The "mutant" is actually a VERY inaccurate, but fun to look at, ANKYLOSAURUS!

here are smaller versions of the monster dino and the imperial fin headed ones: one of my favorites! based on an actual prehistoric lizard called a Diplocaulus. this is a newer (early 90s) version, but i've seen a more monster like one in brown and red from the 70s. i'd love to get that one. 2 imperial prehistoric mammals, the smilodon and the mastodon. both came in a few color variations. there are not enough vintage big rubber prehistoric mammals! anyone know of any others out there? [ The "fin-headed" dinosaur is a PARASAUROLOPHUS. As for Diplocaulus, it was not a lizard, but a salamander. An amphibian that went extinct with so many other animals at the end of the Permian period.

So what are the bigger older ones worth? I have an old tiger similar to the ones above and two brontos, one by imperial and another marked hong kong...are they worth anything on eBay and so on?

hard to put a value on these, they are not as cool or desirable as the fantasy items - for me more an interest in old plastic and the Imperial connection as well. I only pay a couple of bucks for them.

I only pay a couple of bucks for them. Many of the old Imperial regular animals/dinosaurs are still relatively easy to find in flea markets. In February of last year, I found myself a 1985 Imperial Brachiosaurus for only 2$...

i see these all the time, but how can ya tell whats a newer figure and whats older? They all look about the same to me? The YEAR of manufacturing is written under the belly. My Brachiosaurus is written "1985" under it. Besides, the logo has changed since then. In the 1980's (as well as the 1970's) Imperial logo was an EMPEROR's crown; you know, the style of crown with red velvet and a cross on top of it. Since the 2000's (or maybe 1990's), the logo has becomed a DUKE's crown, the type of crown with a row of vertical "spines" all around it. So, not only the year of manufacturing is an unfailing clue, but also the LOGO under an Imperial toy can tell you of the period.

some really great pieces here! i love the pink shark and the bear. You could also look for 1978 AAA dinosaurs. That line included six dinos: a triceratops, a diplodocus, an iguanodon, a dimetrodon, a sauropelta and a stegosaurus. Those are very funny, because despite the usual high quality of AAA, those dinos look like ordinary chinasaurs. You can see a pic of the whole AAA dinosaur line in my gallery and my trade material includes a knock-off of the triceratops of the line.

Here's nice little set from the Land Down Under! I'm pretty sure these were Imperial, yet they do not have the Imperial markings on 'em...made of rubbery vinyl and squeaks! The joey is removeable and solid...non-squeaking, though. As you can see...he's quite the little handful! Coochie coochie coo!!! Awwww...tee hee hee hee heeeee!!!! Totes kyoot!!!

Those kangaroos are magnificient! I have an Imperial soft rubber kangaroo with a wide open pouch like that, which I bought in 1984, in a flee market. The year marked is 1979. I am sure it was originally made to have a joey in it. Unfortunately, since I got it in a flea market, there was no joey...

Here's a heapin' helpin' of hot herpetology! Rubbery reptiles! A bunch of stuff I acquired over time. The only ones with any official markings are the big turtle and the frog. The big turtle is and Imperial product and the frog is by Sun Wai (it squeaks, by the way...beautifully). That ugly gator or croc (hard to tell) is pure petro...and "oily jiggler"! You can smell it! The little turtle is totally unmarked...it has a rubber body and a hard plastic shell. The lizard is made in Hong Kong. It is hollow vinyl. I had a lighter-colored one as a kid which I got in a random Hershey Park gift shop. I know "they" made more, but they are so hard to track down! I saw a really cool monster-like one in this style at an auction, in a big bad of figures...it was so cool, but I wasn't buying a load of crap in an effort to get one cool toy...*sigh*...... Time for a terrapin dissection! See, the Imperial "trick turtle" has a rubbery body and a plastic shell. You can pull it part to see it is held together by plastic pins. You can hide valuables in there! Gotta love the look of that marbled plastic shell...looks better in person, trust me! Here are all the crazy markings on it's underside...they damn near wrote a book under there! I had a small knock off of this guy when I was younger...not like the other mini one shown...you can't take his shell off.

Just got this old boy in today! Yet another reunion with a childhood favorite! He's an Imperial from 1977...I got mine in the 80s, but don't remember the markings or date on it. I'm sure the mold got reused and redone, eh? This guy might had been a brother to that weird ankylo-horned toad I posted back when. He's vinyl with a hollow gullet...classic! The reason I got rid of my old one? I wore it out! Spikes ripped off, corners of his mouth and jaw ripped, holes punched into his hide...egads! The old one had a rough life...I'll cherish this one a bit more.

I personnally own one of those three-horned lizards. You can see it in my gallery, as a matter of fact. I got it in 1984 or 1985 in a convenient store. It was sold with a candy in its mouth, like many other lizard and dinosaurs models.

Just got these a couple days ago...I'd been trying to cut back on toys, but when I saw these in a true gem of a lot on eBay...HAD to have it! These three are from a line called Prehistoric Monsters...not sure if said line is Imperial or not, or just based on Imperial molds. These three are not stamped Imperial, not dated...just marked as made in Hong Kong. I know there is a fourth dino in this collection, a bipedal one. I'm pretty sure these came in multiple color schemes, but the exact count of color types for each figure is inconclusive unless I can get my grubby mitts on an unopened PDQ box. Pretty ironic how I just got an official Imperial green uggo-stego and then got the repro or bootleg version of it! Here's a comparison of the underbellies of each. Also, hard to tell in the photo, but the "fake" stego is ever-so-slightly smaller in proportion to the Imperial one. Colors are also more subdued on the fake, plus the legs aren't as widely stanced. I was extremely happy to find the weird ankylosaurus/horned toad thingie in blue...had been looking and hoping and questing for some time! He may not be official Imperial, but it works for me...I ain't that picky. I just love the blue, since it's so extra outlandish. This poor guy needs a Bronto Burger, stat! He's practically anorexic! Normally, if this were a true ankylosaur, he's probably eat roughage...but with those choppers? MEAT!!! Science gone wrong! Got a few of cool dinos in that lot, but some were already posted here...I did get this weirdie too...now I coulda sworn I had posted a pic of his "big brother" before, but apparently not...gotta dig him out of storage, now! Anyway, here's a smaller, browner version of the odd pig-nosed, vampire apatosaurus. I kinda consider this guy an unofficial toy of Mokele Mbembe...the cryptid dinosaur which apparently lurks the rivers of the Congo!

Oop! Figured while I'm lurkin' about...I'd post these. I actually got 'em of muckmonster87, but figured I'd put up a pic for the general public to gaze at with awe and mystery. One is obviously an official Ben Cooper jiggler (the tag and non-shown markings are a dead giveaway), while the other two are of unknown maker. I had a bootleg of the fly with different color paint apps as a kiddo, while my brother had the spider companion piece...both long since destroyed! I'll be sure to take better care of these. I just love the creepy mammalian eyes on the two non-fly insects. D-don't you look at me! Stay back! I-I'm warning you! No...NO...I won't burn the house down! SHUT UP! SHUT UP!!! GAHHHHH!!!!! ............................................................

I had at least two of the sharks there growing up in the 80s but they were white plastic with grey paint and yellow accents (eyes). I remember those bright colored ones coming out later and being like what the... The thing I liked about the sharks is they made sense in the tub and the fact that they could swallow most of my action figures (He-Man aside). One thing I didn't like, however, was that the shark had two rows of teeth, one peggy row on the inside of the mouth edge and some regular shark-like teeth on the outside. I actually had a lot of rubber animals. Most of them were snakes and those japanese lizard looking guys who were black with green and yellow paint sloppily sprayed on at the factory. The lizards were dangerous though since you could actually lose an item down its stomach since the mouth opening was smaller than the insides. I remember g.i. joe helmets and marbles rolling around inside that I had forced in. Ahh, good times. I think the only figure that survived was my favourite of all time and the first I ever got. It was a rubber black crocodile with a white stomach and yellowish green eyes, about 8 inches long.

Just remembered another really cool toy animal story. I grew up in a house that was over 100 years old and I used to dig in the old dirt basement and find "treasures". Usually it was bits of china and glass and such but one time I found a rubbery gorilla toy that was about 6 inches tall and had one of his arms bent so that his fist was on his head and the other bent on his waist. He reminded me of King Kong and I was really excited that I found such an old toy. Well I put him outside on a big rock we used to play on and went about playing. When I went to get him at the end of the day he was half melted. As it turns out he was made of some sort of tar-like material and was not meant to be under the heat of the sun. I was pretty bummed that day and I still wonder what that thing really was lol.

Okay...got this guy in a little while ago and figured I'd post him. Now, I could have SWORN there was an old thread in the ID section with one of these guys in it...I tired looking but couldn't find it. Eh. Anyway, I managed to rustle up a nice gorilla or King Kong action figure. Uploaded with ImageShack.usNow, you might say, "uh, what's so special about it...there are other ape toys in older posts"...but this guy is special because he's over a foot tall! Holy crap... No markings of any kind...dates, manufacturers...has articulated shoulders, hips and neck. There is a seam across its chest that almost looks like a point of articulation, but it ain't. Made of vinyl and quite akin to the many other vinyl Imperial-like toys out there. Mine seems to have had an accident...missing a few fingers (aka digits, phalanges, booger-pickers). Now, why do I love this thing? This is why: Uploaded with ImageShack.usAlthough this big ape is probably some unlicensed bootleg King Kong or Imperial gorilla, it stacks up with the Imperial Godzilla figure almost too nicely! Finally, that King Kong vs. Godzilla battle you always wanted to re-enact is possible...in toy form. Uploaded with ImageShack.usI had always longed for an adversary for my Imperial Godzilla as a kid. Never truly got one...I had some big dinosaurs and what not, but they were never big enough to pose a serious threat to Godzilla. I knew of the various Dor Mei knock off figures, but never owned any. I never knew that this big ape guy existed until not too long ago! I woulda killed to have this as a kid! Now all I need is a bunch of fake buildings. Uploaded with ImageShack.usSmaller-scale action figures can also fit nicely in this guy's grip...of course, mine is a bit handicapped. For some reason, this thing has green finger nails. Haven't seen enough of these figures to know if this is standard. You can see some faded red paint apps on his chest, too.

Hurray fer Frilled Lizards, every toy collector should have one - and finally (randomly) I do! D.M. 1984 version. To add some extra majik, picked it up at 'The Odd Shop' for 25c, in a tiny town on the center of Kangaroo Island, SA. Okay, something nibbled it's right frill, but it still serves a practical biscuit holding function... Holidaying in the very Aussie town of Parndana I stumbled on this second hand duo at the same time (both K&M China CE) Both really suited the mood - even in the middle o 'nowhere I can't escape the action figures!! Crikey

Some more wonderful little critters...for your pleasure............ I've seen that big squeaking spider/tarantula many a time over the years. I remember getting one at the famous Bloomsburg Fair here in PA as a wee lad. I had wanted some stupid foam puppet spider I saw a bunch of other kiddies walking around with, but my grandpa couldn't find the place they were being sold...so he got me a big rubber one instead! Waaaay better! That one was more nicely colored and had a better sculpt...this is probably a repro of that one. I had cracked the "knuckles" on mine due to strenuous play long ago. At least this one is made of more pliable vinyl. The green bat is solid vinyl, but has a hollow, open maw...and EVIL red eyes...nice! The big green ant...well, medium sized...is rubbery. As with these types of toys, the molds seem to get reused endlessly. I used to have a brownish red and green one in this sculpt, only mine had a suction cup on the belly. The yellow lizard is a sweetie from the 70s...made by Imperial...official stamp! I know more exist in this style...hope to track down more. The green and yellow lizard seems to be based off of a basilisk. No marks, but looks like this might be a repro, since there is an old maker's mark blocked out on his tummy. Oh, and it squeaks, too. The big black bat is just that...a big black bat. Made of vinyl and squeaks...no makers mark, but made in China. Probably more modern. Has a classic elastic string so youse can dangle it real creepy-like fer dem hollow weiners! The black scorpion is solid rubber with red painted eyes. That's that! It just looks cool...very unscientific and monster-like. Just my type. Here's another mysterious unmarked beauty of painted vinyl. This bird thing! One of those things so creepy-cool, that you gotta have it! I kinda wonder what era it's from. I picture it in some PDQ assortment of like species in some five and dime or pharmacy. Wouldn't doubt if it was a Halloween novelty of some kind, either. Just look at that sinister grin and blood red eyes...mocking you...haunting your dreams...slowly consuming your fractured soul...moo hoo hoo ha ha hah hah hah haaaa!!! Makes an excellent extra in your Other World collection!
