SNES was the first system I bought with my own money and will always have a special place in my heart. The really cool thing is its the only system that I can still kick my little brother's butt at since I started him playing video games when he was in diapers and he owns me at literally every other platform. I especially relish beating him at Street Fighter 2 . I also played a lot of Bond on N64..... a LOT of bond.

I was all about Kid Chameleon and Rampage. Something about seemingly endless games I loved.

I still remember the first computer game I ever played. Kung Fu Master My neighbour had it on his C64. I think half the neighbourhood kids were lined up outside the door to get a turn. Notable mentions; Bruce Lee That immortal green sumo wrestler support character dude. My homie. International Karate Plus It seemed the penultimate achievement was getting the split-kick to connect with both your opponents at once. I'm sure I have this saved in an emulator folder somewhere, but no-one to play it with... sob. Why can't my friends be as sadly tragic as me? With their gosh-darn Playstations and Xbox's... rassum frassum.

The Playstation 2 is the last of the newer system that I played, I cant seem to get into the new stuff, i guess the more realistic it is the more I dont like it.
I play a bunch of different stuff but I like these a good bit:
Commodore Vic 20- Snakman (an early pacman clone, probably the best one on vic), Choplifter and Omega Race
Commodore 64- Ms Pacman (good conversion) and Jumpman (great game, you gotta try it on emulator if you get a chance)I've been meaning to play the fist Dungeons and Dragon gold box game on it, but I need a good copy of the manual first.
Atari 2600- all the usual favorites. Joust on here is the only version I'm halfway decent at. I like MoonPatrol to.
Intellivision- This was actually my first gamesystem. I'm fond of NightStalker, Spacehawk and its versions of Bump n' Jump and Frogger.
SegaMasterSystem- First system I bought with my own money. SpaceHarrier is cool. Phantasy Star is all kinds of awesome. Better than was given credit for.
Nes- The usual: Contra, Castlevania, Zelda 1 and 2, SMB3. Lesser known favs are Ducktales and Wizard and Warriors. Nes has my favorite version of Gauntlet.
Genesis- A VERY good system, IMO. Like playing Golden Axe 1 and 2, and the Streets of Rage games.
Fond of the SNES, dreamcast, and Playstation 1 to. I like alot of the racing games on them. Everything from Mario Kart to Jetmoto.
The Sega Saturn has one of the best games ever: Panzer Dragoon Saga.

I'm 40, so I've lived through (and enjoyed) pretty much the entire video game revolution in this country. I got my first Atari when I was 6 and have bought probably a dozen systems in my lifetime. I was a huge Nintendo fan through the gamecube, but dropped them when the Wii came out. I have PS1-3, and a Genesis. Never bought a Microsoft game system though.
If I had to pick my top 5 "vintage" games (vintage to me being anything that is not on one of the last 2-3 generations of consoles), they would be:
1. Super Tecmo Bowl (NES) - I can't even tell you how many hours we spent playing tournaments on this game when I was in college. 5 or 6 of us would pick a team and play through an entire season in a week or so. The gameplay, though simple by today's standards, was crisp and the real stat tracking, NFL players, etc. laid the groundwork for all of the good football games that came after it.
2. WCW/NWO Revenge (N64) - The most fun I ever had playing a wrestling game. Though newer games are prettier, more realistic, and have more options, there was just something about the gameplay on Revenge that made it great to me. Plus - custom characters!
3. Eternal Darkness (Gamecube) - Hands down, the best and most creative storyline of any game I have ever played. Add in the great (for the time) graphics, the interesting gameplay quirks (no telling how the game would screw with you when the 'sanity meter' ran too low), and the fact that you could play through the game 3x (one for each color)....just a darn fine game.
4. RBI Baseball (NES) - Again, a forerunner of all the great baseball games to come. Simple yet addictive gameplay, the ability to use real players, and the fact that you could play a nine inning game in brisk 20 minutes made this game another staple of our high school and college marathons.
5. GoldenEye (N64) - The first FPS I ever got into, and still one of the most fun to play.

I had a telstar pong console when I was a kid. And a handheld Mattel football with red dashes for players... and a TI Little Professor math game. Atari 2600 was exciting when it came out. It's hard to believe how captivating Adventure was. The Commodore 64 was my first hardcore gaming experience. Lots of great games on that little console... The Zork series and other text adventures, Archon, Bill Budge's Pinball Construction set, Epyx Summer Games, EA games before they went mainstream... The Ultima series got me forever hooked on role-playing games. Lots of fun trying to make my own programs too.

There were an insane amount of games available for the C64. My favorites were Great Giana Sisters and Alleykat (the racing game not the old pink and purple thing on PC). Also good to see I'm not the only one who had some love for Ducktales on the NES!

Telengard was another cool C-64 game. After experiencing the first Ultima games on the C-64, I moved on to pc RPG's. I loved TSR's D&D games, the Ultima series, Might & Magic... Some later favorites were Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura and Planescape Torment. I remember playing early Elder Scrolls games on the PC and being unimpressed, but Bethesda really hit its stride on Xbox. Elder Scrolls and Fallout are the only rpgs I'm interested in anymore. I wish they would keep development of these franchises in-house. Oh and Civilization is probably my favorite game ever. I played the original for years. So addicting.

I'm glad to read so much C-64 love in this thread. Even as a kid when "pretty" console games started taking over, I still got excited when I'd convince my buddy to load up the C-64. That system's games just seemed to hold so much variety and creative gameplay design. (+ Rob Hubbard's compositions rocked)
With what we have in the way of tech now, some popular modern games seem quite unimaginative considering their true potential, a lot of copycatting similar formulas.
Truth told, I've always played modern and classic with equal enjoyment, as a kid new systems wouldn't cause old ones to depreciate in my eyes. Just new - not necessarily better.
My family used to make an evening out of 'Sherlock Holmes: the Secret of Bastow Manor' text adventure on Vic-20.

Text adventures were great. It's funny to think how my buddy and I spent hours every day on these simple games, mapping out how rooms were connected and solving puzzles. It just shows how good ideas are more important than eye candy.

It just shows how good ideas are more important than eye candy. Hoboy, the days of physically mapping out your adventures with pencil and paper. When I go through my old game/cartridge boxes I always have to laugh at the scraps of paper kept in the cases, scrawled codes, clue references and elaborate maps which are like gibberish to me now. Plus the packing contents of some old pc games was massive (The Guild of Thieves comes to mind). Nowadays even manuals are unecessary. One single disc or simply a download.

Also how did you find the storylines in God of War? Being your native mythology and all. Well, as i said I'm not hardcore gamer, i play only 1-2 hours and only for fun! As for your questions.... 1) We have both of fans....Sega and Nintendo. In a Greek forum for '80s which I'm member the teasing between fans is usual!!! Of course they don't miss and the ugly side.... the brawl among fanatics of both sides which is bad!!! Gaming is just for fun guys!!!! 2) The storyline of God of War......Hmmmm.... a little fetched, some times right, some times wrong! But don't forget....it's a game and must have interesting to attract the player!!!

Hi people.
I only play and collect classic/retro-games these days because I feel that they don't take up as mutch time as newer games do.
So I thought I'd share some of my favorite games to my favorite consoles in no specific order:
Sega MegaDrive: Golden Axe Shinobi Hellfire
Super Nintendo: Super Mario World (Offcourse) Bomberman 2 Wild Guns
NES: Probotector Castlevania Cobra Triangle
Some are out of nostalgia and some just because I've played them later on and found them great, like Wild Guns(!!). Some of them are both, like Golden Axe and Mario. Doesn't show too mutch here, but Im a big fan of SHMUPs.
