If the figures are the steel versions and are in good shape $80 is fair (though $60 is more fair ). If they are the all plastic, I wouldn't spend more than $50 on them.

at this point why not just get the reissue. it'll end up costing less than trying to piece a vintage one together. but dont get me wrong it is possible to do it cheaply i completed mine for a total cost of 50 bux. but it took a keen eye and patiences to pull it off

Yep i pieced mine together as well (still need a few weapons). My total cost is around $60 but it has taken me a few years to do it as cheap as possible. Also i only wanted the metal figure versions not the plastic.

For me, I collect only original G1 so reissues are out of the question. I have no problem with them being put out as long as you can tell the difference between the old and the new. Do they usually have the current year stamped on the reissues somewhere and not the year of the original mold?

the first wave of reissues from japan have original stamps but by the time hotrod was released they fixed that i myself used to be against the reissues but i thought why? i have some they look awesome and at some point will be rare as well since it was only held to tru in the u.s. also you might not realize but all the transformers that come in gold boxes which were released in canada and europe were also reissues but that was in the 90's and they sell just as high as the real g1's. and man some of the e-hobby reissues are higher than the real g1's

I have alot of the reissuses because, for me, I'm collecting my favorites as a child so reissue or original doesn't matter as long as I have them. TRU has marked them down so low that I purchased most of them at or below $10.00. You can easily tell the originals from the reissuses just from the condition of the plastic and actually the way it feels.

yeah the amrican reissues are totally lower grade plastic. especial the white plastic you can really see it on red alert he looks odd.

Just picked up reissue Silverstreak today(original known asBluestreak). I like him a lot, and I would definately go for a reissure before I would think about buying an original on eBay for stupid money. I'm also the kind of guy who wants to open my own Transformers and sticker them myself. I ain't going to dump one hundred, or several hundred dollars for every Transformer I buy. Except for a few key characters, and even then, I'll go TAKARA reissue simply for the additional weapons and spring-loaded missles.

I have 3 MOC Transformers (2 Beachcombers and 1 Laserbeak/Frenzy). The issue I'm having is that I purchased all 3 with the notion that they were vintage G1 Transformers about a year ago. But with all the reissue G1 items I see on Ebay, I've started to second guess my purchases.
How can you tell if they are vintage or reissues? The back says "1984 Hasbro Bradley Inc., Pawtucket, RI". And on the Beachcombers, I did find a stamp on the arm that read Hasbro 1984.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Please help to ease my mind.

Just a note on semantics, despite sellers' claim of "reissue", these are not endorsed by Hasbro and are bootlegs (I'm just that picky ) Does Beachcomber have an Autobot sticker on the chest. I seem to remember a thread from TFW2005 about the bootlegs having the sticker and the vintage ones not having it. I believe with the cassettes there may be some typo's on the back of the packaging. It's actually easier on these ones to tell by the figures themselves. The shoulder rivets on bootleg Laserbeak look like freshly melted concave aluminum while the original has solid metail rivets. For Frenzy, I'll direct you to a post I made at www.tfw2005.com in a thread devoted to describing the differences between authentic and bootleg figures. (NOTE: ignore Frenzy's stickers since they're reprolabels applied by the previous owner) www.tfw2005.com/boards/showpost.php?p=2045258&postcount=187EDIT: also, knowing who the seller is a way to figure out if you have bootlegs. yc-collection, trainee007, mecharsi, and sagitar3093 are some that sell bootleg TF items (figures, weapons, paperwork, etc) and don't disclose they're fakes. linanma, a seller known for the same practice, recently got booted for those shenanigans.

I thought all the G1 reissues have the year they were reissued stamped on the figure rather than the original release year?

Thats good to know, I picked up an Ultra Magnus a number of years ago from another collector and always thought it was a reissue just because it was in such minty shape. I did allot of research on it and found info on slight variatians to the figure that would show it was a reissue. I came to the conclusion it was a real G1, though can't remeber what it was to tell them apart

If it's a legitimate, licensed reissue from Hasbro or Takara, it will be stamped properly according to the newer release date. All the Chinese bootlegs ("reissues") use the original stamp from the 80's since all parts and accessories are reverse engineered and casted from authentic items.

The TRU Thundercracker re-issue has the original date stamp. The best way to tell is if they have the long stupid missiles (seekers, Magnus) The Encores and Takara versions were very similar. I have a list of the legitimate re-issues somewhere....

What about the Soundwave "reissue/bootleg" box for $60! It's a freaking empty, knock off box! Just cardboard and plastic and they want $60 for it!

I picked up an Optimus Prime today (minus trailer) at a local thrift store and I can't find any marks to identify whether it is original or a remake. I am pretty sure that it is original though I was wondering if someone might help me with identification. Except for a damaged bumper and smoke stack it is in great shape and I figured it is worth picking it up for the price I paid.
Thanks, Dan

The original Prime had dark blue legs, and the Generation 2 Prime had light blue legs with the word "Autobot" plus the G2 Autobot symbol tampoed on back of one leg. Another thing you can do is go to www.TFU.info and do a search for Optimus Prime and match it up that way. Hope that helps.

No marks on OP himself. Check for chrome wear on the smokestack. If there is any, it's probably original. Also, the stacks should be long. They're knocked off so much nowadays, it's hard to tell.

i'm contemplating snatching up the soundwave sdcc reissue, but was wondering what the differences were. if they are identical, but with date stamping being the only difference, i might just hold out for a minty mint OG. i like my re-issues a little unique, hence destroying the whole purpose of re-issuing, but whatever...

I'll wager it's the re-mold that has a different tape door. It will hold 2 cassettes instead of 1 like the G1 and Microman versions.

The SDCC is the duel deck that TRU had as as exclusive . The Soundblaster mold basically. If your a casual collector the re-issues are almost identical next to one another .

thanks for all the info people! i love soundwave, and finding a OG-G1 in top notch condition one complete might take a while and be super spendy. this re-issue will work fine for me...

Soundwave is one of my favorite Transformers... I would think the ability to be able to put two cassettes in the chest is better than one! How does it look though? All the pics I see are from the front, not the side... so does it look funky?

i'll let you know when it comes in the mail. i will maybe take some different angle pics and post them, so you have something different than the same one that is shown on all online stores and ebay auctions....

I've got an original Soundwave and I've seen the double-decker version in person. Gotta say, I prefer the look of the original. Yes it's cool having the ability to put two tapes in there, but when your memories are of the old cartoon series, it just looks like Soundwave is trying to impersonate a pigeon. Not to mention, when stacked up with tapes, it makes him front heavy to stand.
