Sweat setup Shuptrine. It also crossed my mind that he may have come with the Italian Crystal Dragon. You're possible recollection of that is good fuel for that fire. Hey there's a C-8.5 sealed one on Ebay right now for $200, anyone want to buy it and crack it open? Just kidding, but it's probably worth that much in such nice condition. It also crossed my mind that Remco may have decided that Stalax was the one they wanted to package with the dragon, and then in their haste to bring the figures to market (remember the figures beat the comic to market) they may have just made all of the articulated figures first before making the dragons and then realized "hey we want this guy to actually be able to ride the dragon", thus maybe the figure didn't get used at first and then later got purged as a mail away. The theory of them making the dragons and/or the dragon-rider figures a little later is slightly supported by this catalogue pic on which of all the figures shown all look to be production versions or finalized in design except for the lava dragon rider which is clearly a prototype as it is red rather than the production yellow: www.plaidstallions.com/simpsons/simp4.html

Thanks! And good eye noticing what I used, that pic is so old I used what I had at the time. Really nice collection Shup, I like the way that you used those clear sports card boxes, it gives it a real uncluttered look.

Not to go off topic, but in the bottom picture, there are 2 crystal guys in- between the 2 wizards. I always wondered, are those guys Crystar repaints, or are they different Crystal warriors?

They're different crystal warriors and quite a bit smaller than Crystar. The first post in this thread talks about who those characters are in the comic book.

Yeah it's a weird one. I think of Crystar as a pretty prominent line from the 80s so for some information to be lost through the years is kinda crazy. Kinda like that Wonderbread He-Man. The guy who put that there were five mini playsets on wikipedia wrote me back and said he had no specialized Crystar knowledge. Maybe someday we'll get lucky and see the figure on a card or something.

I noticed it was posted earlier about the italian Crystal Dragon. Was there any difference between the US released figures and the Italian released ones?

He is really cool looking. I had the choice of either one when I was a kid, and I picked the Lava Dragon. I remember regretting it, because I never saw them in stores again.

I was going through some old stuff and actually found the second purchase I ever bought of of eBay way back in '98 (don't ask me how I remember that). It was 2 Crystar figures that I bought from a local seller and one is this mysterious posable version of Dragonfly in pristine condition. I was really surprised and looked up this thread to varify. Now, when I asked the guy where he got 'em he said he found 'em at the Value Village in the next town like a week before. So this makes a strong case that this figure isn't a Europe exclusive (albeit not definate). On a related note here's a '83 Remco catalog pic of the figure on the back of the Crystal Dragon. www.plaidstallions.com/remco/19831.htmlSo, until a packaged version of this figure shows up, it's kind of up in the air where he's from.

I have that figure as well...I bought it in an auction lot 10 years ago .In that auction it came with a green sword and a shield which are the same mold as crystars blue sword and shield ,I don't know if those weapons are correct or not. . Also I was just checking the contents of my crystal castle and mine comes with the same weapons listed in the archive along with an additional 2 , 1 is a silver version of that 3 pronged weapon you can spot in the bottom left hand corner of the photo of the crystal warrior battle set, also it came with a silver version of Ogeodes staff. I also have the yellow ladder the same as the archive but I have noticed that some other castles have a silver version of the ladder instead.

I've been in this group a pretty good while now and I don't usually ask alot of questions, (and normally research stuff myself) but I was hoping some group members could help me out here. I'm thinking about collecting this line and I wanted to know if people that know what they're talking about could clue me in as to how much I should expect to pay for the cheaper guys, and who are the more rare ones and what is too much for them? (Strictly referring to LOOSE figures) It's hard to tell whats a good buy when you aren't really in the know about the line. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There's a crystar "soldier" more or less, and I believe he comes with either a purple helmet or blue-ish helmet. He's more difficult to find because he came in a weapons set I believe. I think also the crystal dragon, if it has its wings, tends to go for around 50.

The crystal dragon is unbelievably hard to find with wings intact. The last one I sold had broken wings and included the rider. I'm pretty sure it went for $55 or so. That was a little over a year ago but I would expect to pay more for a nice example.
Everything else seems pretty affordable. I think it's a great choice for collecting. The figures are very well done and look great on display.

I wouldn't consider it fun it there wasn't anything in it that was hard to get. I think Crystar is a great choice, I don't know much about them but I've always liked them.

Yeah, I have a thing for see through plastic figures like that. it's what attracted me to and made me collect the original Tron line, and these look so cool. Thanks everyone, hopefully I can get started on it soon and it wont cost me and arm and a leg. I knew the Crystal Dragon was somewhat expensive, but it seems like everyone is saying the rest are fairly cheap/affordable.

I forgot to add, the castle is going to be extremely difficult if you intend to "piece" it together rather than buy it whole at once. It'll cost you, I think well over a 100$ for a complete one, but I'd guess it's worth it. I've never bought one myself, but I've always wanted one. I've almost never seen the accessories (nor come across them myself) in mixed lots on ebay.

The Crystal Shatterpult is the toughest piece to find from the line. It will run you quite a bit. The castle is up their as well but seems to surface a little more often
