Anyone collect these hard to find figures? I had one as a kid and thought it was the worst toy ever, but after getting one on ebay a while back, its actually pretty cool and works alot better than I remember it.

How does the figure itself hold up over time? If I remember correctly you can rip off a body part and then reattcah it. Is it made up of that sticky rubber like stuff like those fly catcher things from cereal boxes in the 80s? You know , it was like a rubber hand with a long rubber string that you could whip around, it would stretch and stick to the wall? You could also wash it to clean off the hair and dirt.

The one I got was opened, but unplayed with. The figure has held up perfectly over time. Its tought to describe the material that its made of. Its almost like wacky wall crawlers, or those sticky, stretch hand things you get out of vending machines, but not quite. I have to say, its very sticky and sticks to itself very well. It makes me wonder if they revised them at some point, because the one I had as a kid didn't work well at all.

What are these figures going for these days? I'm sure you don't find many loose. How many were in the line?

From what I can tell, there were about 6 figures and the Manglor mountain playset. I think the line died before any more were made. I'm not possitive though since there isn't a whole lot of info out there about these things. Most of info I have found has been from looking at scanned boxes and inserts I've found online, as well as looking at old toy catalogs.
I've never seen any loose on ebay. I doubt many of the actual played with toys survived the years. When the occassional boxed figure pops up on ebay(and that isn't often), they usually go for around $50. I somehow managed to get mine for $15 shipped. There was a sealed Manglor Mountain on ebay a few weeks ago that went for under $100 and I'm still mad at myself for not bidding on it. Its the first I'd ever seen on there.

Looks like I just won me a Manglor Mountain for 20 bucks Its missing the Manglord figure, which doesn't bother me since I already have one.

Turnbolt, since you had the Manglor Mountain, I'll ask you this. What was the slime like? Sort of like the MOTU slime pit slime? The mountain I won includes slime, but it looks like a a little bag of dried up snot in the pic. I assume you filled the thing up with it, or was it just there for the sake of having slime?

The kids were bugging me to show them the Manglor Mountain today, so I took it out and set it up. I have to say, it is quite possibly my favorite piece from my collection. Theres not much to it, but its definately one of the cooler playsets ever made. Its a shame the line never caught on. I would have liked to have seen where they went from here.

I had one & had the same luck as a kid...the thing didn't work right at all....Great concept from a little boy's point of view...Saved up, bought him, got him home, tore his arms off...followed the instructions on how to reassemble him &...he fell apart...Hated it!!!!

I'm now convinced that they revised the figures at some point. I vividly remember the one I had as a kid sucking. It fell apart instantly after puting it back together. The one I have now, which I'm guessing is newer because it has a second color molded into it, is super sticky. Maybe they get stickier with age?

That has got to be one of the wierdest playsets with a very unusual figure description I might add, that I have ever heard of!
And yet for some reason there is a small memory of it in the back of my mind from comercials or maybe a friend who once had it. hmmm?

"Anybody remember Manglors??"
Hell, Yes!! One of my best friends and I always reminisce about toys past and the commercials promoting them. Manglors is one that we both have vivid memories of (even though we never actually owned one). There was a pretty bitchin commercial where this kid dismembers his figures and reassembles them. As I recall the ad had this great melodramatic narration, gory music as well as dramatic close -ups of the toy brainwasing the viewer into forgetting about everything else. In actuality the figure was pretty much crap. The parts wouldn't stay on as promised and the figures were very much susceptible to dust and lint sticking on them. The color tended to fade from them pretty fast to. This is sort of a shout out to 10 incher, but for the longest time I have wanted to research and write an article about these HBO documentaries from the 80's which served to educate parents and kids alike about the onslaught of commercials geared to young children and how evil all those shows based on toys were (it'd be nice if they did documentaries to serve as a retraction to their previous concerns and show how we turned out and pointing out the passion, joy, kinship and insatiable desire to learn all we can we have to those "30 minute commercials" Not bloody likely though).
Anyways, one of those documentaries pretty much summed up all the Manglor defects that I've illustrated above and they showed this kid who bought one and wrote a letter of protest to the company. To mollify the kid he was sent two Manglors!
I always wondered if this kid posts here or is one of our collecting brethren.

I've noticed very little discussion or activity here for anything to do with Manglors. I've occasionally watched some auctions for them on ebay. They are more rare than alot of stuff, but I wouldn't say they are extremely rare as they aren't fetching ridiculous prices that I've seen. Anyone here have any of these and want to share some info? As a kid I had that tower but I hardly remember it.

Manglors were cool because, unlike the other toys, you didn't get in trouble when you ripped them apart. OK...so they were supposed to stick back together. Yeah right, that was just a clever marketing ploy to fool the parents. We kids new better. I owned several Manglors as a Tyke, whenever they stopped sticking back together, which was immediately, I'd go buy another and rip it apart again. It was a great way to vent your pent up frustrations back in the early 80's.

Like a lot of 80s toys, Manglors had a great gimmick that didn't quite work. I had one.

I seem to remember an action figure...
All very foggy,
But it would have been early 80's. Possibly green or grey in color. Distinguishing characteristic is that the figure was clay-like...I seem to remember the commercial showing that you could pull off limbs and stick them other places on the figure's body.
Ring a bell to anyone?

It's odd how there are WAY more pictures of these guys in the package than there are loose. I would love to see an entire collection of these loose. I wish I had gotten into these!

So... what are they made of? Do they stand the test of time loose? Or do they end up like pottles of that toxic 80's goo? I'm so friggin' intrigued here!

They hold up pretty well over time, they might get a bit dry but you can still bend them. I wouldn't go as far as pulling them apart, even when I was a kid and had one they never really stuck back together like they should. You'll see them all loose here. www.toysyouhad.com/Manglors.htm

I had one of these I think, the egg looks very familiar and I remember a guy who you could snap off his arms and stick em back on. I remember also that the arm would never really align back the way it originally was (sort of like when you super glue broken china). It also picked up a lot of hair and dirt if I can remember and the limb that you broke off would come off on its own sometimes. I remember liking this toy but it didn't last long as the material was sort of like gummy worm consistency and ripped apart with play.

Like you guys, I had one as a kid. I tried tearing it apart and reattaching as well. And like everyone else, it didn't quite work as well as they claimed in the commercials. The toys are kinda crummy, but the box art is amazing. If only toy companies nowadays actually hired painters to do cool illustrations

I never understood how Ideal got away with such blatent false advertising. I recall getting mine as a kid and even though I was very young, I just really felt that the figure was NOT going to work the way they said it would, so to be sure I cut a tiny piece off of his foot and sure enough, I was right. My cousin on the other hand, sliced his all up and just ended up with a handful of body parts.
There is no way early versions worked any better....Ideal just did not care. Then again, maybe it was a trick to get you to buy more than one....relize the first time it does not work, then you have to buy another to have one intact??? Who knows, but it was pretty sleazy marketing IMHO...they HAD to know!

I've never had them so can't speak for their functionality but I think they are pretty cool.

I had one of these as a kid and I remember being disappointed at the look of the figure inside. The package had such great illustration; I expected it to be a cool monster toy. And mine never stuck back together, either.
