I am looking to pick up a few of these sometime. Im not too big of a transformer toy fan (they look to square to me and yes I know that they are robots). I love the original cartoon though and felt that I could at least pick up my favs and the ones I thought were cool looking and that I remember. I have seen a few peoples collections from this site in the galleries and figured you would be the people to ask. I am interested in obtaining complete pics (if its not any trouble) of Megatron, Devestater (sp?), Optimus Prime (first version), Jetfire, Kup, Blurr, Sharkticons, Insecticons, Dinobots, Starscream, Astrotrain, Soundwave, and Reflector. This is so I know whats what and what a complete fig looks like when I pick them up. I figure pick one or two up every few months. I also have a few questions that hopefully you guys can answer. How come Astrotrain is so small. He was so big in the movie, he could have been a giant transforming carry case that holds all the others (I have a feeling this is going to come down to affordability for kids right the bigger one would have been like the eternia playset huge and expensive). What are the biggest Transformers made (G1) I have seen pics of what looks like a giant plane. How come they never made figs of Spike and his dad and there exosuits? Was there ever an idea to produce a Cybertron playset? How can you tell the reissues from the originals besides the boxes (can you tell when they are loose without seeing the date)? Thanks alot guys

For good complete TF pics I'd go to www.transformerland.com They have good clear pics of every US release G1 figure out there, along with all of their accessories. The biggest Transformer made was Fortress Maximus. If you check out my collection and scroll down to the TF shelves, Fort Max is the 2 foot tall one...kinda hard to miss actionfiguresca.proboards43.com/index.cgi?board=Collections&action=display&thread=1141083201As for the size issues, like Astrotrain being too small, there's not a real good answer. Keep in mind that, yes he was a space shuttle, but when he was in robot form, he was just as big as the rest of the crew. Don't try to rationalize the size issue too much, it will hurt your head I'm not sure exactly how to tell the originals from the reissues. I know they changed some of the missiles and weapons on the US releases, as well as toning down the metal content and the plastic quality. Some of the Japanese reissues are spot on though, like the Soundwave is perfect.

thanks for the help robomonkey. Whats the dinosaur that looks like it turns into a space ship (you have the box for it). I also have one other question How come Megatron transformed into a gun instead of a vechicle it seems odd when all of the autobots turn into movable vechicles. How much do complete Fortress Maximus's run.

The shuttle/dino is Sky Lynx. If you're looking for a complete Fortress Maximus expect to shell out at least $350, but probably more, up to $500. I was lucky enough to find 2 incomplete ones for good deals, together I got one complete one. Then I parted out what I didn't need on Ebay for good $$$, making most of the money back. Fort Max parts can go for wacky prices on Ebay As for Megatron being a gun, and not a vehicle, I'm not 100% sure. It does seem a little silly though. My guess has to do with Japanese culture. In the States we've become a little desensitized to seeing gun, heck you can buy one in Wal-Mart From my understanding guns are illegal in Japan and have a VERY bad stigma to them. Hence the leader of the evil Decepticons being a gun is very fitting. This is just a theory though. If anyone has any better info on the topic, please let us know. I'm a little curious too

the original megatron was from the "microman" line (more correctly from its spin off microchage) where the robots turned into everyday objects like guns, microscopes and even toy cars to help microman fight alieans

Heh, gotta dig out my old UK Transformers comics. I never really liked the cartoon as a kid because the comics storylines and character development seemed so much better.
Thanks for the scans figurasdeaccion, interesting stuff

How much do complete Fortress Maximus's run. Hes a gun because the original Japanese Microchange/Diaclone figure Megatron is based off of is a gun. "Browning" It is the same construction as G1 Megatron just retooled for the US market. Has nothing to do with Americans being desensitized to guns or Japans law against them.
