Interesting bit of info with that story. I know a few guys who used to work at KB back in the day...all kindza stories! Not to get off topic, but I once knew a guy that worked at some supermarket. They apparently got a bunch of old Star Wars (90s) toys that weren't selling and they were told to just get rid of 'em! Wow...not like they're perishable goods or anything, sheesh!

Man, I wish someone would pay me to 'get rid' of a few cases of oddball toys. Cool story, Offbeat.

The ironic thing, Count, is that pretty much any other time we were told to return things instead of trashing them. This time was a total fluke. Another one we were told to pull were the cursing Smurf babies. Like HELL! Once we realized what the toys said I bought a few to stash, and we blew the rest out by showing certain customers that we knew would appreciate the insanity.

It was one of those right-place-right-time things and I forgot all about them until last year. Considering the wages it's not easy to say I was paid to do it, but it made for some good times,

Was thinking about this line while strolling outside one day...freezing my butt off no less...what year was it made/released? Anyone have a concrete answer? Just wondering 'cause I have a crazy theory about these guys. Okay, I always wondered why they were called Combo. One, I assumed the line was named after the character of Combo. Two, I've seen these in two packs (combo packs). I'm starting to think this line was just a bunch of 80s characters lumped into one knock off toy line and given fantasy warrior bodies. Combo looks like Rambo (even the names sound similar). Mr. X looks like a Mister T ripoff. Hulka kinda reminds me of a mogwai from the Gremlins movie and Leopard kinda looks like an earless gremlin himself! Robo may just be a Terminator ripoff. The other guys...not sure...maybe other 80s pop culture references/homages? Any thoughts or input? Kind of a hare-brained theory, but hey...may be true for all I know. Then there's the odd case of the nameless ape man who clearly looks like a Planet of the Apes guy and don't get me started on that "cowardly lion" guy either! my theory is that they combined a bunch of random molds and materials. boom! its a combo! i have like 6 combo figures, and the construction/plastic types/size/etc. are about 4 different styles. thats pretty comboriffic! i do like your theory zackula. lets just hope there was that much thought put into this line. anyone found a sound, quality online resource/archive of this line yet?

I've found that there are actually 5 combo body styles. The European style, the bulky style (slightly larger), the 833 wrestler style (slightly taller, the sunman waist style, and the wrestling champions body style. the toy companies packaged them with various labels. combo, combo warrior, combo hero, wrestling champion etc.. this is such a fascinating line. so much mysterious intrigue

Here's yet another i bought this morning. With unicorna and E-man. Although these are not the best figures made i find unicorna, E-man and santana to be great finds.
